Properly Formatting Your Updates - Dude - 08-24-2018 Hey guys! I want to take some time to show you guys how to properly format your updates today. I'll be doing this in the week or two leading up to a draft just so we can get our rookies updating properly and instill good habits in them for their entire careers, as well as to make it easier for them to update so they are less frustrated with one of the harder aspects of the site when you're just starting out. This will also be useful to post in this public forum to better educate some of our older players who, frankly, suck a whole lot of ass at formatting their updates. Why this is important: This is important to our site for a number of reasons. Since our job as the Updaters is prone to human error, a simple and easy to read and understand update helps us prevent needless mistakes. It's also important for new members of the site to get their legs under them as easily as possible. I don't know what materials are available to them these days, but I remember when I started out these materials were scattered and difficult to understand, so I aim to make something the Mentors, or GMs, or even my team of Updaters can point to to show them how to do this the right way as defined by your Head Updater with the bloated ego. Again, this is also important for our older players that have terrible updates. Tons of needless information that bog down their posts, confuse updaters, add nothing to the update. It's a real problem and we as a site should push to be doing this properly. Not to mention, it's so much easier to do it this way. So without further ado, here is a video for you to watch. I hope you guys like Pixies, and be sure to make fun of me in the comments: Now to drive the point home, if you even want to spend the 15 minutes listening to me talk, you can watch this video of what the updating process is like and why it's important to properly format your updates. NOW, I have to say before you watch it, I updated @ And for a Template: Code: +x - "Claim Description" RE: Properly Formatting Your Updates - Troy_McClure03 - 08-24-2018 The volume is so low I cant hear it!! Making my update page was easily the most confusing part of joining the league. RE: Properly Formatting Your Updates - karlssens - 08-25-2018 awesome video, definitely helpful for new players (and those with shitty update pages). you should toss in some links of good update pages. Maybe a template too? Might be difficult since each type of claim is a little different and it can get a little nasty when regression is involved. I'll admit your update page is quite bloated, but far from shitty. I understand you use it as keep tabs for yourself. I'm referring to the people who copy/paste URLs instead of linking them, or post how much they accumulated, but not how they allocated it. Biggest pet peeve is when they don't post a running total. As I told Izzy here in private, I'm not taking shots at him as a person. There are many players on the site with atrocious updates that are still very important to the site and Izzy is one of those. A bad update hardly reflects on a person's character. Not to mention Izzy's update is far from the worst update we've had to interpret ![]() RE: Properly Formatting Your Updates - Dangles13 - 08-25-2018 I remember when @.bojo made a sweet update web app RE: Properly Formatting Your Updates - Dude - 08-25-2018 08-25-2018, 08:47 PMDangles13 Wrote: I remember when @.bojo made a sweet update web app That's where my format comes from. It's basically the same if I remember correctly, but a webapp isn't necessary if we still process updates manually. Maybe if we did our updates like VHL does. |
