- Witz - 06-14-2012 ONTO THE NEXT CHALLENGE ~ Minnesota Chiefs Playoff Run Tonight we witnessed the Minnesota Chiefs bury the Toronto North Stars in round one of the S8 playoffs. The game was a battle all night long, for the most part a one goal game thanks to Zach Miller who scored the goal that gave the Chiefs the lead for the whole game, until Jeff Dar finished it on an empty netter. Sawyer showed up big, once again. He has been the best Chief the entire series and showed up the legend Mike Honcho, tonight was no different. Honcho put up a fantastic showing, Sawyer beat him by shutting out Toronto and saving the Chiefs on many plays. The Toronto v Minnesota series as a whole was very interesting and entertaining. Minnesota started of extremely strong averaging around only 1 goal against a game for 3 games straight, and scoring was not an issue. That was until game 4, the Chiefs lost 2nd pairing defender Kyler Lange due to injury on the Smith-Pelley kneeing play in game 3, after this incident the North Stars won 2 straight, striking fear into the Chiefs. When it came down to game 6, the Chiefs knew it was just as important as a game 7 because if they lost, Toronto would have crazy momentum heading into game 7, they weren't willing to let that happen. The Chiefs put on a tremendous showing and silenced the North Stars and their great season, they will be headed to the golf course as the Chiefs move on. In the Conference Finals the Chiefs are set to face up against the leagues #1 regular season team, the West Kendall Platoon. The Platoon went on a historic winning streak changing their position in the standings from a borderline playoff team, to the cup favourites, or most feared team in the regular season for that matter. The Chiefs and Platoon have grown a pretty viscious rivalry since S6 when they faced off against the Platoon in the conference finals, where the Chiefs dominated and ended it in 5 quick games. They will look to do the same against one of the SHL's most historically rich teams in league history, but it will be the biggest challenge of the season, and most of the players' hockey careers. We caught up with Chiefs center Brodie Witzel and ran a few questions by him.... Were you pleased with your play in round one? "Very. As a team we played really well, everyone played their role and did so effectively. I though i had a great technical series putting up good points while winning a very good amount of faceoffs and playing physical. I hope i can keep this play up." Which player, in your opinion, was the best North Star, and best Chief of that series? "The best North Star...i would have to say was Honcho, he was tremendous every game and didn't really have an off night, made it a huge challenge every night. We took it as a challenge to beat him, defeating him and being able to score like we did increases our confidence and we now believe we can score on any goalie in this league. As for our team, Sawyer was our by far best player. He stole many games and his shutout tonight was insane. He is truly a playoff beast, Sawyer loves this time of year and thrives off of the pressure. But a close second would go to our third line (LaFlamme, Williams, and Jock), they provided great secondary scoring when our big stars were quiet." What are your thoughts heading in to the series against the Platoon? "I'm excited and anxious that's for sure, i have really grown a dislike towards this team but we respect them as opponents. It will be a rough and fun series, players such as Stevens, Malenfant, and Andersson will be tough to play against but we have a plan and are ready to execute." Any players in particular you are eager to face off against on the Platoon? "Its gonna be an experience facing my old teammates Giovanni Mortellaro and Robert Spezza. They have made a name for themselves in West Kendall and as much as i dislike Mortellaro, he is dangerous and can be a huge threat, Spezza will challenge me much more than any North Star did in the faceoff dot so it will be a challenge. But we are ready." Thanks for doing this! "No problemo, gonna be a sick series." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwkDjipvanU&feature=g-all-lik - Member #1 - 06-14-2012 Great article man. - Witz - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by DylanJK@Jun 14 2012, 09:35 PMThanks <3 - Member #1 - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by Witz@Jun 14 2012, 09:36 PM Yay I got a <3 Not too much <3 for you until after this series tho - Witz - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by DylanJK@Jun 14 2012, 09:38 PMgon be cray - NateyD - 06-14-2012 Chiefs win in 4 - Member #1 - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@Jun 14 2012, 09:50 PM :( - Giova69 - 06-14-2012 And you comment on my grammar lol We gonna whoop u guys hopefully - NateyD - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by DylanJK@Jun 14 2012, 09:57 PM Sorry...6 - Witz - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by giova65@Jun 14 2012, 10:03 PMWhat are you talking about. - NateyD - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by Witz@Jun 14 2012, 10:12 PM I think he's attempting to make fun of your grammar...not sure why. - Giova69 - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by NathanAD@Jun 14 2012, 11:14 PMI'm not making fun of anything Just pointing out not everyone has perfect grammar wo don't hate on my grammar - JumpierPegasus - 06-14-2012 Quote:Originally posted by DylanJK@Jun 14 2012, 07:38 PMFirebirds cannot support you in this time  - Banjo - 06-14-2012 Great read Witz!
