Evans Responds to Fight Criticisms - ztevans - 12-20-2018

Ready to grade - 306 words, 2x draft media bonus

After reports of a fight between SMJHL Prospects Nikolai Evans and Guy Zheng surfaced, Evans faced reporters ahead of tonight’s SMJHL Draft to discuss the incident and its impact on his draft status. Evans, a second-generation player who was originally projected to go early in the draft, appeared anything but contrite over the incident during the conversation.

“Look, boys will be boys,” Nikolai Evans said about the fight. “It’s pathetic that a fight between two guys in newsworthy, but hi, I got in a fight with another hockey player. Shocker. It’s almost like we play a competitive sport.”

When asked if he felt this would hurt his draft stock, Evans laughed at the insinuation.

“No, that’s silly,” Evans scoffed. “I’m good enough to go first overall, and this isn’t going to change that.”

Evans also faced questions regarding some of the criticism from other players in the draft class, including the O’Koivu twins and Casimir Stevens.

“Sounds like jealousy to me,” Evans said. “It’s easy to talk about me being overrated, me being a spoiled brat, this and that, when you haven’t accomplished what I have accomplished. Go hit the gym, go hit the rink, stop trying to win the popularity contest with losers like you guys, and play some hockey. Christ.”

Evans then abruptly walked off, giving a “peace” sign as he stormed into the hotel ahead of tonight’s draft. Between this fight and a so-so performance at both the Prospect Showcase and the Combine, it’s tough to see this not having an impact on Evans’ draft stock. However, insiders say he should still be a first-rounder, with other saying his status might not be impacted at all.

With plenty of white noise and stories murmuring around one of the largest SMJHL Drafts in memory, only time will tell how this saga will play out.

This can't be Zach's kid.

This kid is way too much of a douche. Zach was the sweetest boy. I wonder if his wife cheated on him?

I think he suffers from affluenza. If this was an eighties movie, he would be played by James Spader.
