Espy's Prospect Showcase + Hometown Blog - Randominoe - 02-17-2019 (800 words x2 from the draft double media week.) Hello SMJHL Fans, Espy here, the fans back home have asked me to communicate with them about my Showcase experience while also telling the world about where I came from. First I'll tell you all a little bit about me. I was born and raised in Oslo, Norway by my father, none other than Columbus Blue Jackets legend Espen Knutsen(who I am also named after), as well as my mother, Hilde Osland which is where I got my charming looks. Growing up in Oslo, which is one of the bigger cities in Norway, there was plenty of competition as many children aspired to be in the SHL or representing our country on the Sim-Olympic stage. I was one of the children who wanted to play in the big leagues of sim hockey, none other than the Simulation Hockey League. My father was an excellent role model however, he only made it to the measly "National Hockey League", I was determined to not only follow in my father's footsteps but to one-up him by becoming an SHL superstar. The competition in Norway was fairly humbling for myself and I only wish to thank my teammates for finishing the passes that I put on their sticks all the way through my junior career back home. I arrived in Lethbridge a day early in order to adjust to the difference in time zone as well as to get acclimated with my new surroundings and hopefully create some pre-tournament chemistry with my linemates. I had a brief power nap, and then I zipped over to the arena in hopes of meeting up with some important people in the Sim-Hockey world. I sent my resume to all of the SMJHL teams and began getting responses almost immediately from interested GMs who were hoping to connect on a more personal note before the tournament began. I took some questions from the awaiting media, which were mostly along the lines of what I am expecting out of the upcoming SMJHL Draft, as well as the season altogether, pretty simple stuff. I woke up this morning feeling amped and ready to go. I headed to the arena for the Vipers' morning skate and made sure to be the last one off the ice always setting up teammates for a quick one-timer on the net. When we returned to the dressing room, there was a piece of paper attached to the door. As I went up to check what all of the fuss was about, one of my earliest friendships on the team, Kobe Krisp, came up to me excitedly and said that we had been placed on the same line and that those lines would remain for the entire tournament. I was stoked because Krispy here had an uncanny ability to find soft spots in the goalie's armour and I was prepared to help him light the lamp and get us drafted first and second overall. Suddenly Max Huebner wraps his arms around our shoulders from behind and starts singing O' Canada. I then realized that I had been placed on the line with the Canadian sniping duo and realized that this tournament was exactly what I needed to achieve my goal of going in the first round of the upcoming SMJHL Draft. I am writing to you all, my fans, after the first day of games is over and so far our team hasn't done amazingly. We've dropped below .500 playing against an evenly matched Stingrays side but there are plenty of games to be played. Many of the analysts and journalists in attendance have already shared their observation of the efficiency seen by the line of myself, Hubby and Krispy. All I have to say is that it's not hard to succeed when I am surrounded by such goal-scoring talent such as those two beauties right there. The hope for tomorrow is to shore-up our defensive play as we are currently leaving our defensemen as well as our goaltender Harry Carpet with more than the league's average worth of shots against. The coach has placed his trust in me to lead our penalty kill and alongside Wibbly McButternutz, we plan on blocking each and every shot that comes our way. I am also currently supporting our 32% success rate power play on the 2nd unit, alongside my boy hubby and also Ariz who has strong offensive skills as well. That's all for now as Espen Sr. is phoning, thanks again for all of the support from my fans across the world and I will make sure to let me dad know you said hello. I'd also like to shoutout my mom who sent me a care package of hair gel and some cover-up. Oh mom how you are always worried about how the world sees us. Until next time, Espy Jr. RE: [Double Media Bonus] Espy's Prospect Showcase + Hometown Blog - Wibbly McButternutz - 02-17-2019 My man! #Vipers4lyfe -until we're drafted.... |
