SMJHL All-Star Series has partial Rosters unveiled; Fan Vote announced - StadiumGambler - 03-22-2019 (Word count is 1082, with some effort and research put in. THE LINK HAS BEEN EDITED FROM YESTERDAY, PLEASE REVOTE BELOW!: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd6cjttg2JJKIcxJ9nO3h6vw_UszXRvZQIGlmJD2xYWRGmn-Q/viewform?usp=sf_link You will need a Google account.) --- With the SMJHL season at its end and the playoffs about to start, the selection committee for the SMJHL All-Star Series announced their choices for their upcoming best-of-3 showdown via press conference today. The press conference took place in the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, home of the SHL's Toronto North Stars. (The ACC is also where the series is set to take place, after the Four Star Cup Playoffs conclude.) A total of 22 players were revealed as the best of the best in the SMJHL, with another 12 set to fill out the rosters via online fan vote. The list was announced to the waiting media and reads as follows........... --- TEAM WORLD PARTIAL ROSTER Hiro Fujikawa - ![]() Parker Smeb - ![]() Knute Knurtsson - ![]() Raino Kyllonen - ![]() Kristoffer Svensson - ![]() Petr Mikulak - ![]() Mathias Seger - ![]() Corey Kennedy - ![]() Kalevi Karhunen - ![]() Guy Zheng - ![]() Patrice Nadeau - ![]() The big surprise was the selection of rookie D-man Corey Kennedy for the Team World Lineup. Both teams were mandated to select at least one rookie, and Kennedy got the nod. Team World head coach Anatoli Terrorov explained that it was a tough decision to make, but he felt his forward core was far too good to leave one off, so he had to look at a rookie for defense and Kennedy was the best one available. Terrorov also explained that, depending on transfer paperwork filed by the IIHF, we could see the roster change with several North Americans jumping over to Team World, a statement that caused a ripple of surprise amidst the media gathered to hear the announced teams. The defense core's fan vote will be a key point of interest for Team World to help cover for Kennedy (although the youngster from Ireland does show promise). Among the potential candidates via fan vote are Cassius Darrow, Karlstrabe Scholz, and almost the entire core of the Halifax Raiders. Halifax recently added 1st overall SHL Draft pick Nikolai Evans to a highly-rated blueline that also includes potential Team World teammates in PErry Morgan, Adrej Doskocil, and Dylan Karlsson. The forward core is regarded as a group of generational talents, and there was heated debate over who to take, with forwards such as the recently-transferred Monkey D Luffy and Armada winger Olivier Cloutier missing out. The fight for the remaining 3 spots via fan vote will no doubt be fierce. Lethbridge Goaltender Patrice Nadeau, now representing Japan, stood head and shoulders above the rest of the league this season, with a rock-solid 2.24 GAA, .912 save percentage, and 5 shoutouts. All those statistics led the league, and Terrorov was confident in a high level performance from his number 1 netminder, both in this series and in the Four Star Cup playoffs for the Lethbridge Lions. --- TEAM NORTH AMERICA PARTIAL ROSTER Troy Reynolds - ![]() Bobby Sharp - ![]() Dick Clapper - ![]() Nicolas Fleming - ![]() Borromini Cannellini - ![]() Cullen Gray - ![]() Osbert Whacker - ![]() Leopold Lockhart - ![]() Chuck Crutchfield - ![]() Slip McScruff - ![]() Casimir Stevens - ![]() North America's bombastic bench boss Dan Curry announced his roster with great pride, then went into a tirade against his rival Anatoli Terrorov. Curry accused Terrorov of tampering and trying to get people to change nationalities, and accused the IIHF in general of conspiring against Canada to get players to change nationality and play for other countries that "they weren't even born in anyways" so they could get more ice time internationally. Curry then said if any player on his team transferred, he'd never speak to them again, and went into a lengthy rant on Patrice Nadeau and Monkey D. Luffy for betraying ther country and choosing to play for Japan. Curry then guaranteed victory over Team World regardless of what happened, and said it would prove that North American hockey is still the best in the world. Curry then mocked Nick Brain for not even being on the fan vote for Team World, and said he was looking forward to seeing him and Michael Scarn fade into irrelevance where they belong after "getting lucky last year". This led into an extended tirade about the Winnipeg Jets organization and a demand to focus on more good ol' Canadian kids going forward. The North Americans may very well live up to Curry's promise of a victory against Team World. Borromini Cannelllini led the league in scoring this season, and is set to pair with the controversial Halifax forward Troy Reynolds on the first line according to Dan Curry. Reynolds had a breakout year after a trouble-laden rookie season that saw him get more famous for off the ice incidents than his flashes of on the ice talents. This season has seen Reynolds clam down (a little), and pick up a team-leading 36 points, while also bringing some physicality with 61 hits and 3 fights. Curry said he was counting on the duo to be a big part of the team's success, and also praised the Kelowna tandem of Bobby Sharp and Dick Clapper. Cullen Gray is the mandatory rookie representative, and he was a revelation for the Whalers this year, unexpectedly producing 32 points for Vancouver. The North American blueline looks significantly stronger than last year's blueline in the Draftee Showcase, with veterans Slip McSruff, Leopold Lockhart, and Chuck Crutchfield joining the proceedings. While depth is concerning with few names eligible for the fan vote, the overall quality may still be enough to suppress the dangerous Team World forward core. Casimir Stevens will take the goaltending mantle for Team North America once again, and has found himself 2nd to Nadeau in most goaltending categories in the J this year. Stevens also made his debut in the SHL and did well, going 2-1 in 3 starts and showing some poise for the Minnesota Chiefs. --- While the fan vote will determine the remaining pieces for each roster, this series is shaping up to be a close encounter regardless, with most bookmakers giving even odds or close to them on the outcome. Both teas are well-balanced, with some skill in every facet of the game. It may have a lot to live up to entertainment-wise compared to last year's Draftee Showcase, but at least 2 nights of excellent hockey are expected with money going to a good cause. With an offseason ripe for action, this event could be one of its highlights....... Amazing how its the little things that get botched. Hopefully the actual games and ROM editing don't go this badly.
