Whalers S46 Awards - luke - 04-19-2019

Hello Whalers fans, I am back to announce the team awards. I am a man of few words when it comes to introductions so lets just go into presenting the awards

For Team MVP, I think we all know where this is going. This player is the only player to record over 50 points this season. Both a leader on and off the ice, he is the core of the team, the #1 center in the whole league, Borromini Cannellini

To go along with it, is the leading scorer award, which also goes to Borromini. With 25 goals, he lead the league in goals, and the team in goals, as the next highest was Petr Mikulak with 20 goals. I think its easy to say he also takes the award as well

The next award is the Top Defenseman award, this was hard to decide. We had some very good defenseman this season, and a lot of people had to step up as some of the defensive core got called up for the season, and we saw that this defender rose up and became an elite defenseman we hope to get when we drafted him. If you look at the base stats, he lead the defensemen with 22 points, a very respectable 80 hits, as well as 40 shots blocked and 100 minutes of PK Time. His advanced stats say the same as well, a defenseman worthy of getting the award.... Jax Duggan

The next award is the Two-Way Player award, for a player who has elite talent on both ends of the ice. I think its safe to say that this player is a two-way player at heart. When you think of Two-Way player you think of Center, but I would like you to think winger now, even though its rare for a winger to win this award, we felt that he was our best two way player. On the offensive side he put up 44 points in 50 games, with 130 minutes of Penalty kill time, which is the most for a forward. We would like to present the award to..... Petr Mikulak!

Next up is the Unsung Hero award, this goes to a player that even though he might not be in the spotlight, he is a crucial part of this organization. This player has struggled in his new role, as he had to step up and put down top line minutes as a 2nd year, which is a very difficult thing to do. This player had his ups and down but throughout all of it he has been an anchor to this team. With a respectable 21 assists and 62 blocked shots, he has been a workhorse for us, logging 22 minutes a night for us. We are proud to present this award to... Bernik Vrzala!

This award is the Rookie Award, which is given to the best rookie this season. I think everyone knows where this is going, but ill hype it up for a second. This rookie has proven his role as elite 1st liner in his 1st season in the SMJHL. He played in the 2nd line for a little bit and went up to the 1st line and thrived, getting 35 points in 50 games, and he also managed to get a little bit of PK time as well. I am proud to present the Rookie Award to... Cullen Gray!

The last Award is the Playoff MVP, given to a player that have played the best in the playoffs. Even though it was 4 games, this player has played his heart out in those 4 games, recording 4 goals in 5 games, all on 5V5, he really turned on his playoff performance. I hope he continues the success to next season in the regular season and the playoffs. I would like to announce the award winner is... Theo Morgan!
