Detroit Overcomes the Pre-Draft Odds, and Travis Bitties' Draft Experience - Tydy - 04-19-2019 This is a last minute 2x media post. 16 minutes to spare. 521 Words! Travis Bitties sat down with us and told us about his pre-draft experience leading up to him being selected first overall by the Detroit Falcons. His first interaction with SMJHL teams was during the S46 playoffs. Travis’s uncle Tigole actually talked to the GM before the playoffs and told the Whalers that Travis was interested in playing for them, but before the GM had time to respond Travis signed with Kelowna. After the playoffs he had some words with them about the draft, but it was clear that Kelowna was not interested in trading up to pick Bitties because of the fact that Travis was expected to be drafted in the top five picks. A few days after the playoffs ended the Whalers sent a scout to speak with Bitties after their first interaction. At the time Vancouver had the first overall draft pick. They both expressed that they were interested in each other; however, during these talks Detroit made an offer to Vancouver for the first overall pick. This trade was way too good for Vancouver to turn down. By the next day Detroit had the first pick and started talking with Travis. Detroit was looking for a solid winger to fill their roster and thought Bitties was a great pick; however HO found a mistake in the last season draft and punished Detroit by getting rid of their second round pick. This was very bad news for Detroit because they were looking to sign Zizagooney because of his ties with the team. At this point it looked as if Travis would fall to the mid 1st round and that Detroit would have to pick Zizagooney with their first overall pick. A day or two passed and Detroit was attempting to talk with the Halifax Raiders in trading the latters 3rd second round draft pick. The two teams agreed on the offer and Detroit was then again able to take both Zizagooney and Bitties in the draft, and that is what happend. Travis seems to be very happy with signing with Detroit and hopes to become a centerpiece in the near future. He mentioned that after the draft he has been welcomed kindly to the team by both his teammates and Coaches. Travis also mentioned that he will miss playing with his teammates during the prospect games. He played for the wranglers and in playing 26 games he had 16 goals and 29 points. He and Zizagooney both had a great impact on the prospect matches, and with the help of other top prospects on the team, they were able to defeat the Vipers and win the Prospect league finals. Other players that played for the Wranglers include Puhcheese, UsedToBeFun, Cleary and Thorstrom. The Wranglers had an overall record of 12-10-2 during the Prospect matches and boasted having the least goals against of any other teams. They only had 60 against them mostly thanks to Alexander Thorstrom. Bitties said that winning the Prospect Cup showed him what it feels like to win a league, and he said that he will be working hard to win more Cups in the future.
