S47 Draft Deadline - Who's Going Where? - Muerto - 05-07-2019 Buyers or Sellers at the Trade Deadline? The Trade Deadline for Season 47 is coming up soon, so let's have a look at the different teams and what sort of moves they could be predicted to make. Disclaimer: I have no access to the Trading Block of the GMs, so there won't be any leaks or anything like that. I just considered each team's current position and roster, and thought what I would do if I was the GM. So here's my take on each team! ------------------------- BUFFALO STAMPEDE Buyers : The Stampede have certainly turned things around after a dismal start to the season, they now sit comfortably in a playoff spot, but if they want to defend their title they may need to make some additions to the roster. I can see them potentially looking for some rental players to push them over the edge, even on expiring contracts, as they have several prospects in the wings ready to make the jump to SHL as soon as next season. Need - 3rd line upgrade, 3rd pairing D upgrade Pieces to move? Conor McGregor Brock Becker Samuel Jalopski -------------------------- CALGARY DRAGONS Stand Pat: The Dragons seem like a solid lock to make the playoffs, and they have a well-balanced team with the right prospects waiting to take the place of aging/retiring players. I can't see them upsetting the plans unless somebody they covet was to show up on the Trade Block. Need - Not much Pieces to move? Draft picks maybe -------------------------- CHICAGO SYNDICATE Buyers : On paper, Chicago should be a team at the bottom of the standings looking to be a long-term build. It's only their second season in existence, and were seemingly built with a youth-first strategy. However, they are competing for a playoff spot right now, and it could be tempting to try and bring in some high-quality players to keep them competitive down the stretch. On the flipside, maybe they'd rather tank for a high draft pick, and unload some of their aging and regressing players to get some more quality prospects? Hard to say. Need - A litte bit of everything, but especially high TPE scoring type players, somebody to keep up with Atmey. They have a lot of prospects in the minors, but not all project to be top-tier SHL players, so gaining some blue-chip youngsters might be a good thing. Pieces to move? Gvidas Kazlauskas Svatoslav Bodnar Quick Mafs ------------------------- EDMONTON BLIZZARD Buyers: After a huge start, the Blizzard have fallen back to earth and have surrendered their first-place spot to New Orleans. There's no need to panic, as the team is strong in all areas, especially on defense. However, if there is an opportunity to upgrade without sacrificing any of their more valuable assets, Edmonton management is likely considering all other options. Need - The team has a few prospects ready to jump up as early as next season so renting a couple pending free agents to bolster the third line might be wise. The returning assets would likely have to include high draft picks or valuable prospects, so take care not to overpay for a shot at the Cup, no matter how enticing that might be. Pieces to move? Derrick Glover Adam Taylor Draft picks/prospects ---------------------------- HAMILTON STEELHAWKS Sellers: In a couple of recent trades, Steelhawks management asserted they were bulking up to compete for the playoffs, acquiring Cameron Carter II and Yuri Boyka Jr. in separate trades. However, that doesn't seem to be working out quite that well, and Hamilton remains mired in last place with no improved outlook in sight. Hamilton is a decent team having a real bad season, so there's no need to blow everything up, but if teams were interested in one of their top end players and willing to give up a piece for the future ... why not? Need: Just make it stooooop Pieces to move? Ben Dover (!!??) Angelo Odjick Alexander Zajac ----------------------------- LOS ANGELES PANTHERS Sellers: The Panthers have already made a few moves, shipping out veteran stars Bennett, Auston, and Boyka, and handing the reins over to the next generation. But are they done yet? Need: Young active prospects, no need to go for high TPE players right now, as LAP would be an attractive destination for Free Agents in S48. Also with a likely lottery pick in their grasp, management will have an excellent bargaining chip at the Draft. Pieces left to move? Toivo Kosonen Lightning Jones Matthew Leetch ------------------------------ MANHATTAN RAGE Stand Pat: With the players they have on the roster, Manhattan can be a legitimate contender very soon. Are they there this year? Maybe not, but they're good, and have a good chance to get into the post-season. If the right player came available that would be a good fit, maybe roll the dice with a draft pick in exchange, but don't sell the farm to get it. Need: Any top tier defender who could be got without giving up a blue chip young player. Pieces to move? Draft Picks Dwayne Wyder Sachimo Zoidberg Jr. ------------------------------- MINNESOTA CHIEFS Buyers: Despite their struggles so far this season, the Chiefs are not out of it, and a strong run to close out the season could see them close the gap and even surpass someone in the West to claim a playoff spot. Need: Their biggest weakness is on Defense, there is definitely room to upgrade in that aspect. Pieces to move? Luisa Koller Noro Wozy Dean Colt III ------------------------------ NEW ENGLAND WOLFPACK Buyers: With a roster featuring a lot of youth playing above their heads in many cases, the Wolfpack surprisingly are very much in contention. They have a plethora of promising prospects, if they could dangle some youth for a veteran that could give them a boost, I can see them making a bold move. Needs: Elite players at all positions Pieces to move? Active young prospects Draft picks Xander Green ---------------------------- NEW ORLEANS SPECTERS Stand Pat: Why change a winning formula? After making the finals last season, the Specters have not missed a beat, and have a roster which anyone would envy. Shocking that a team this well-rounded has been constructed in just 2 seasons. Needs: Maybe a good player on a struggling team to upgrade the defense? They don't have a lot of prospects but almost all of them would be highly coveted by a rebuilding team Pieces to move? Patrick Brumm Jr. Adam Kaiser Active young prospects ---------------------------- SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE Buyers: The long rebuild is almost over and the Pride are currently holding down the last playoff spot. With Minnesota and Winnipeg surging recently, they may look to bolster the corps a little bit. Their defense is as good as anyone in the league, and they have a ton of decent young players, but what they lack is a truly elite forward to pump the offense. Needs: Big time players who can score, for the home stretch and possible playoff run. They have a ton of prospects and a couple of first round picks for next Draft as bargaining chips Pieces to move? Leshaun King Draft Picks Active young prospects --------------------------- TAMPA BAY BARRACUDA Sellers: Tampa Bay has struggled so far this season, sitting near the bottom of the standings. They aren't eliminated yet, but they would need a lot of luck to jump ahead of Chicago and New England to secure a spot. They have a lot of good young players but there are still some gaps to fill. They have a ton of prospects coming up, which could be valuable assets to trade with, but they would be better off embracing the tank and seeing about collecting some more draft picks Needs: A little of everything, ideally decent non-regressing players above 900 TPE Pieces to move? Draft Picks Young active prospects Cash Savage ----------------------------- TEXAS RENEGADES Stand Pat: Whatever they are doing is working for them. After Edmonton and New Orleans, they have been keeping pace, scoring well and defending even better. A good mix of vets and youth, and a trio of top tier prospects ready to move up as spots become available Needs: Possibly an upgrade on 3rd line and 3rd pairing D, as that's the one area they seem to struggle, but even then, would have to be a bargain Pieces to move? Conklin Owen Karno Grönkjær Nico Gross ----------------------------- TORONTO NORTH STARS Stand Pat: Toronto has been getting amazing performances from their vets, with many players having career years in offensive production. There are some big gaps in the roster but they sit on a treasure trove of prospects eager to move into the wings. Needs: The third line and third pairing is atrocious, but honestly, I wouldn't give up a good prospect for a rental player here. They will be able to fill in those holes from their prospect pool, and, just ride the lightning in a bottle they seem to have captured! Pieces to move? Mercer Church Konstantin Voloshin Carter Manning ---------------------------- WEST KENDALL PLATOON Stand Pat: The Platoon already made 2 big moves, bringing in Artemi Berezin and Sophia Bennett, both of whom have fit in nicely. There is literally no weakness on this team, and right now I'd say they are the favorites to win it all this season. Needs: The roster is pretty stacked as it is, the one thing they are lacking is a lot of prospects. But it would be silly to try and trade away a good player just for a pick, and risk upsetting the chemistry. Pieces to move? Nope Nah Nyet ---------------------------- WINNIPEG JETS Buyers: Despite a horrendous start, the Jets have lately been one of the hotter teams, and are creeping closer to a playoff spot. They have a lot of good young players on the rise, and some highly touted players in the minors, but they don't seem to want to embrace the tank! Needs: Elite goalie, one more high end forward, upgrade to 3rd line Pieces to move? Ace Redding Cedric Moreau Max Poulin ----------------------------- So keep an eye out for some potentially exciting moves as teams try to solidify their chances down the homestretch! Trade Deadline!
