S48 SMJHL Entry Draft 1st Round Review (1-8) - LarksTongue - 06-12-2019

S48 SMJHL Entry Draft 1st Round Quick Review (2x draft media, research, etc.)
1327 words

1st Overall - Falcons  - D - Noah Andros (211 TPE Anticipated)

Going first overall is our first recreate, the star defenseman; Noah Andros. Hailing from Switzerland, Andros is a puck moving defenseman who played with the Blazers during the prospect showcase. During the 20 games of the prospect showcase,  Andros managed 4 assists, but played an obnoxious 26 minutes a game being relied on all the time. Andros also dished out 23 hits and blocked 28 shots playing more of a defensive role. In fact those 28 blocked shots were good for second in the Showcase. A smart player stealing the puck 12 times tied for second However during the playoffs Andros brought his offensive game with a goal and 2 assists in the 5 games they played. Andros was still  playing near 25 minutes a game.
@Good_Ole_Kimmy is an active user who just retired Andrew Martin deciding to recreate. With lots of experience and a large bank, Andros will develop nicely for the Falcons who have had a rough go the past few seasons.

2nd Overall - Raptors - D - Derek Bohne (201 TPE Anticipated)

Going second is another defenseman in Derek Bohne. A USA born left handed d man, Bohne plays a sound 2 way game. During the prospect showcase Bohne played for the Stingrays. Bohne notched 5 assists and no goals. Like Andros, Bohne played near 25 minutes a game. What stood out in Bohne’s game is his boom factor. He dished out 39 hits which was 2nd among all players at the showcase. He also took 37 hits. No one is happy in the corner with him. The Stingrays only played 3 games during the playoffs but Bohne stayed even despite not getting any points while leading the Stingrays in ice time.
@wumaduce  is another recreate, a user since 2017 wumaducce took a brief break but is back for his second go at Derek Bohne. Again no issues developing with all the experience. Another team with a tough go the last seasons. With Thornstrom and now Bohne they have a good core for next season.

3rd Overall - raiders - RW - Cody (214 TPE Anticipated)

Going third overall is our first forward with an awesome name to boot; Cody. From Atlanta, Georgia, Cody is a skilled scorer who played for the Wranglers during the showcase. Cody racked up 23 points and 10 goals playing 20 minutes a game, good for 4th among wingers production wise. Cody was also 4th in the Showcase for P/20 with a 1.16. Cody plays all areas of the game as he gave out 37 hits placing him right behind Bohne in hits. The Wranglers only played 2 playoff games and Cody did not get on the scoreboard. Not much to be said there.
@Winter is Coming  is another recreating user who just retired Conor McGregor after life took a hold for a bit. This time Winter is back and ready. With over 100 Million in the bank and a user since 2015, Cody should become a star player. Is this the Raiders year?

4th Overall - Falcons  - LW - Jagger Fouquette (208 Anticipated)

Up next is another winger who prefers the left side; Jagger Fouquette. A very small natural lefty who was born in Saskatoon, but represents Russia at the IIHF for some reason (Correct me if im wrong lol). Fouquette played for the Vipers and lead the Showcase in Goals with 15, winger points with 28, shooting percentage, and power play goals. Fouquette played about 20.5 minutes a game. Only one player was more productive than Fouquette. During the Vipers Showcase playoff win Fouquette dominated with 7 points in 6 games and 5 goals! A 35 shooting percentage! In the end it looks like Fouquette was the most valuable player statistically.
Another recreate, @Waters  has been a user since 2016 and has 30+ million in the bank. Waters was the user of long time Steelhawk player; Vijanupatan Singh. The Falcons are looking great for a couple years with Fouquette and Andros in their core.

5th Overall - Knights  - D - Prince Devitt (205 Anticipated)

Coming 5th overall is another defenseman in Prince Devitt. Born in Ireland Devitt is a more of a defensive player first compared to both Bohne and Andros. Devitt played for the Vipers during the Showcase. Devitt grabbed 8 assists, 5th among defensemen playing a little less than 24 minutes a game. Devitt was right behind Andros blocking 27 shots while also having 28 hits. During the Vipers cup run Devitt played steady with 4 assists in the 6 games with 24 minutes of ice time. Devitt also stayed even and led the Vipers in hits during the playoffs with 13.
I think most people know who @CFJ is, whose abbreviated name means Cross Fit Jesus. A big name player (possible Hall of Famer) who recently semi-retired, and is coming back for one last season with the Jets. Meanwhile, keep an eye on Devitt to be a possible franchise player.

6th Overall - Armada  - RW - Elijah Jones (225 Anticipated)

Coming 6th overall is another winger in the Mexican born; Elijah Jones. Like Cody, Jones is a skilled offensive forward. Jones played for the Blazers during the prospect showcase. During which he grabbed 13 points and 7 goals playing 20 minutes a game. Jones stayed even while many of his teammates were negative. Jones is also not afraid to get physical with 31 hits, 2nd among the Blazers. During the Blazers playoffs Jones showed his true form with 5 points, 2 goals, 1 GWG in the 5 games they played. Going +2 and also was tied for the team lead in shots with 12.
Another experienced user in @Torbvo who recently retired the S31 player; Toivo Kosonen. Looking to create a forward this time around. Armada got a great piece to add as they have an aging core and are a team to look out for.

7th Overall - Whalers  - C - Jan Zacha (205 Anticipated)

Finally our first center taken in the draft, hailing from the Czech Republic. Zacha like Jones, represented the Blazers. Zacha who is more of a passer than a shooter grabbed 15 points and 6 goals in his 21 minutes played per game. 1 of his goals was a short handed goal, and also grabbed a game winner. Zacha blocked a respectable 7 shots and went +2. Zacha did great in the faceoff circle with a 54.84 winning percentage, good for third among the Showcase. Zacha did well in the playoffs with 4 points and 2 goals in the Blazers 5 games. Playing 21 minutes a game Zacha upped his faceoff game more with a 58.62 winning percentage.
A big draft for experienced users, @StaticShocked has been a user since 2017 who just retired the S36 player; Alexander Zajac. With Cannellini being called up, this piece should help alleviate the loss as the Whalers hope to make a cup run this year.

8th Overall - Scarecrows  - D - Noah Brusky (210 TPE Anticipated)

With the 8th overall pick comes our fourth defenseman; Noah Brusky. Born in the USA, Brusky is a defensive defenseman who can make a pass when needed. Brusky played for the Wranglers and grabbed 8 points and 1 goal. Like other defensemen in the showcase Brusky played 26 minutes a game. Brusky also blocked 27 shots which ties him for 3rd with Prince Devitt. The Wranglers had a very brief 2 game playoff and like Cody did not do much. However Brusky still played about 25 minutes a game.
Finally we have our first new player! @BrewskyBoy is a new user from our most recent (and possible last, due to stupid reddit rules) reddit drive. From EA_NHL, BrewskyBoy has already dished out some media since joining June 4th. A great pick with a large ceiling for the Scarecrows going for their 4th championship in 5 seasons.

Well I'm tired. Wanted to submit this before midnight. I'll be back at you with the 9th overall and 10th overall this week. Like always thanks for reading.
