Predicting the SMJHL Playoffs...with Coin Flips - Gwdjohnson - 07-12-2019 So this is something I like to do for the NHL every season, but I figured with the SHL and SMJHL seasons wrapping up today, it would be fun to predict who would win each respective league if the games were thrown into the hands of me and my shiny Canadian quarter. Here is the quarter in question, for those who are curious. For the flipping, the highest regular season team of the two will be heads, and the lower one tails. Allow me to begin! ROUND ONE: (7) Lethbridge Lions ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() (8) Halifax Raiders ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() Round One Summary: In both round one series', we see the series favourite fall to the underdog. Colorado and Halifax were relatively even throughout the season, so a tight Raptors win isn't too surprising, but the other series saw a huge shock. Lethbridge, who only finished in the bottom-four by a point, managing 51, saw themselves get smacked by rock-bottom Kelowna in 5 games. The Raps will go on to face Anaheim in round 2, while the Knights will be after the biggest upset of all against St. Louis. ROUND TWO: (1) St. Louis Scarecrows ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() (2) Anaheim Outlaws ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() (3) Detroit Falcons ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() Game 7: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() (4) Vancouver Whalers ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() Round Two Summary: Lmao the absolute memes my coin is bestowing upon this article. After beating Lethbridge surprisingly, the Knights then went on to beat the best team in the league in 6 games to advance to the semifinals. Can they actually go all the way? The rest of the series' were boring, with 2nd seed Anaheim, 3rd seed Detroit, and 4th seed Vancouver all dispatching of their underdog oppositions to advance. Onto the semis! ROUND THREE: (2) Anaheim Outlaws ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (3) Detroit Falcons ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() Round Three Summary:Everyone's favourite luck benefactors finally fall at the hands of the defending champs in Anaheim, who beat them in 6 games. In the other matchup, Detroit sees themselves shockingly swept by the Whalers, who will be very grateful to have gotten four flips in a row land tails. SMJHL FINALS: (2) Anaheim Outlaws ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() Game 7: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() THE CHAMPIONS OF THE COIN FLIP SMJHL PLAYOFFS ARE
![]() ![]() Final Round-up: Well by sheer coincidence, the Outlaws bag what would be a second consecutive 4-star, as the luck of the quarter was granted to them. Now we'll see how it plays out in the real sim! Will be doing an SHL version of this soon.
