Predicting the SHL Playoffs...with Coin Flips - Gwdjohnson - 07-13-2019 This is the second time I coin flip a playoff bracket, with the first being when I did for the SMJHL playoffs earlier today. Now the playoffs have already started in real life, as they started like ridiculously early, but I'm gonna pretend the first game never happened (I'm sorry if this costs Buffalo their series, please don't TD me). Anyway, the rules are that the higher-ranked of the two teams going at it are assigned Heads, while the underdog gets tails. Here we go! ROUND ONE: (4) Toronto North Stars VS (5) Buffalo Stampede Game 1: Heads, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (1-1) Game 3: Tails, win (2-1) Game 4: Heads, win (2-2) Game 5: Tails, win (3-2) Game 6: Tails, win (4-2) ELIMINATE IN 6 GAMES (4) Calgary Dragons VS (5) Edmonton Blizzard Game 1: Heads, win (1-0) Game 2: Heads, win (2-0) Game 3: Heads, win (3-0) Game 4: Tails, win (3-1) Game 5: Heads, win (4-1) ELIMINATE IN 5 GAMES Round One Summary: The first round doesn't quite offer any surprises, with Buffalo ousting Toronto in 6 games (another first round exit, sorry @ml002), and Calgary coasting past the Blizzard in 5. Next round, the Stampede go up against the giants of Tampa Bay, while the Dragons go on to face New Orleans on the other side of the bracket. ROUND TWO: (1) Tampa Bay Barracuda VS (5) Buffalo Stampede Game 1: Tails, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (2-0) Game 3: Tails, win (3-0) Game 4: Heads, win (3-1) Game 5: Heads, win (3-2) Game 6: Heads, win (3-3) Game 7: Heads, win (4-3) ELIMINATE IN 7 GAMES (2) Hamilton Steelhawks VS (3) West Kendall Platoon Game 1: Tails, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (2-0) Game 3: Heads, win (2-1) Game 4: Tails, win (3-1) Game 5: Heads, win (3-2) Game 6: Tails, win (4-2) ELIMINATE IN 6 GAMES (1) New Orleans Specters VS (4) Calgary Dragons Game 1: Heads, win (1-0) Game 2: Heads, win (2-0) Game 3: Tails, win (2-1) Game 4: Heads, win (3-1) Game 5: Heads, win (4-1) ELIMINATE IN 5 GAMES (2) Winnipeg Jets VS (3) San Francisco Pride Game 1: Tails, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (2-0) Game 3: Heads, win (2-1) Game 4: Tails, win (3-1) Game 5: Heads, win (3-2) Game 6: Tails, win (4-2) ELIMINATE IN 6 GAMES Round Two Summary: A second round where the results are once again rather tame and quite believable. Incredibly, Buffalo see themselves fall to a reserve sweep at the hands of Tampa, who managed the elusive 4 in a row, only managed elsewhere by Vancouver in my J flipping. This round also saw defending champs West Kendall take out Hamilton in 6 games, while New Orleans coasted past the Dragons in 5, and San Francisco downed the Jets in 6. It's honestly almost creepy how potentially realistic the coin is making things go so far. SEMIFINALS: (1) Tampa Bay Barracuda VS (3) West Kendall Platoon Game 1: Heads, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (1-1) Game 3: Tails, win (2-1) Game 4: Heads, win (2-2) Game 5: Tails, win (3-2) Game 6: Heads, win (3-3) Game 7: Heads, win (4-3) ELIMINATE IN 7 GAMES (1) New Orleans Specters VS (3) San Francisco Pride Game 1: Tails, win (1-0) Game 2: Tails, win (2-0) Game 3: Heads, win (2-1) Game 4: Heads, win (2-2) Game 5: Heads, win (3-2) Game 6: Heads, win (4-2) ELIMINATE IN 6 GAMES Semifinals Summary:The almighty quarter has decided that the Challenge Cup Finals will be contested between the two regular season powerhouses of the league, Tampa Bay and New Orleans. Tampa wins another series in 7 games against the Platoon despite trailing 3-2 after game 5, while the Specters completed a rally of their own to win 4 in a row after losing their first two games to the Pride. I really don't understand what's going on considering the memefest that was my J version lmao; I probably would be getting some TPE from the playoff predictions if I submitted this as my entry. But now, onto the finals! CHALLENGE CUP FINALS: (1) Tampa Bay Barracuda VS (1) New Orleans Specters Game 1: Heads, win (1-0) Game 2: Heads, win (2-0) Game 3: Tails, win (2-1) Game 4: Heads, win (3-1) Game 5: Tails, win (3-2) Game 6: Tails, win (3-3) Game 7: Tails, win (4-3) ELIMINATE IN 7 GAMES THE CHAMPIONS OF THE S48 COIN FLIP CHALLENGE CUP ARE
THE NEW ORLEANS SPECTERS!!!!!!
Finals Summary:And it is the New Orleans Specters who, after two impressive seasons in the league following their foundation, see themselves take home their first Challenge Cup in just their third season of play! After the Barracuda had them on the ropes with a 3-1 lead after game 4, the Specters managed to get 3 flips land Tails for them to take it home. They join the Anaheim Outlaws as recent expansion teams in their respective leagues to win via luck of the coin. This was fun, should probably do it again next season!
