Predicting the S49 SHL Playoffs...with Coin Flips - Gwdjohnson - 09-02-2019 So we're back again with another round of coin flipping the SHL playoffs. I did it for the Juniors playoffs yesterday, but today we do it for the big show. Last season, the New Orleans Specters took home the prize when I started the series, but it's a new year and new Canadian quarter, so we'll see how it goes down this time! The rules are unchanged; the highest seed wins a game if it's heads, while the underdog wins on tails. ROUND ONE: (4) West Kendall Platoon ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() (4) Edmonton Blizzard ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() Round One Summary: And in round one we see the odds-on favourite West Kendall down underdogs Tampa Bay in 6 games, which is rather what should be expected in the real sim, while we see a shock in the West, where Los Angeles managed to thump a struggling Edmonton team in 5 games. The Platoon go on to face New England in the next round, while the Panthers will play Calgary. ROUND TWO: (1) New England Wolfpack ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() Game 7: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() (2) Buffalo Stampede ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() Game 7: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (1) Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() (2) New Orleans Specters ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Heads, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() Round Two Summary: Round two had a rather tame outcome in terms of results, but the craziest narrative of this round was the Buffalo Stampede getting reverse swept by the Manhattan Rage. True fans (or enemies) of this series will remember that in this exact round last season, Buffalo were reverse swept by Tampa Bay, and they somehow managed to have it happen again this time around. Honestly I'm just in disbelief lmfao. There was a somewhat shock result in New England being toppled by West Kendall in 7 games, while New Orleans were stunned by the Jets, who took them down in 6. No surprises in Calgary, though, as the President Trophy-winning Dragons beat the wild card Panthers in six. Semis are MAN-WKP and CGY-WIN! SEMIFINALS: (3) Manhattan Rage ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads. ![]() Game 6: Heads, ![]() Game 7: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() (1) Calgary Dragons ![]() ![]() Game 1: Tails, ![]() Game 2: Heads, ![]() Game 3: Tails, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Tails, ![]() ![]() ![]() Semifinals Summary: And two upsets set the stage for the finals! The Rage saw themselves downed in 7 by the Platoon despite overturning a 3-1 West Kendall advantage, while the Jets shocked the Dragons by eliminating them in just 5 games. We go into the finals now with one very unlikely finalist in the Jets, and one less unlikely one in the Platoon, who are out to prove they can still do it with their aging core. CHALLENGE CUP FINALS: (3) Winnipeg Jets ![]() ![]() Game 1: Heads, ![]() Game 2: Tails, ![]() Game 3: Heads, ![]() Game 4: Tails, ![]() Game 5: Heads, ![]() Game 6: Tails, ![]() Game 7: Heads, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() THE CHAMPIONS OF THE S49 COIN FLIP CHALLENGE CUP ARE
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finals Summary:And this season sees a total underdog in the Winnipeg Jets come out as champions, as in the coin flip universe this season goes perfectly for them, winning the cup and having a top-2 pick in the draft. After the coin had both 1st place teams in each conference make the finals, this year saw a little bit more chaos. Congrats to the Jets!
