With the S54 SMJHL draft looming around the corner it is time to take a look at Guomundur Kristjansson and what he brings from his experience in the Get Ligaen in Norway as he prepares to join the ranks of the SMJHL


The Godmother, is a speedy playmaking wing hailing from Iceland, and has spent his young career prior to the S54 SMJHL playing in Norway for the Stormhamar Dragons in the GET-Ligaen. He spent the past 3 years dominated in Norway preparing for the chance to play in the SMJHL, winning the scoring race in the GET three years in a row and leading his team to a championship in his final year.



Now you might be wondering, damn The Godmother really put up a lot of goals while playing in the GET, but don't be fooled he is a pass first shoot second style of player and due to the lack of talent on his team was required to step up and play both roles however consistently registered more assists. The Godmother finds his strengths breaking into and out of the zone, pulling off jaw-dropping puck handles and making almost impossible passes to put his team up on the score board. If you thought you could catch him think again, this kid has got the wheels on him.

Now what he lacks is his scoring, defense and physicality and while he may be working on those aspects of his game this off season he tends to be a liability in his own zone and can be found coasting waiting for that chance to start a break but don't expect him to do the work to get it. Partially to blame would be the easy competition of the Get-Ligaen that has gotten the Godmother used to being able to cheat on certain parts of his game.


One thing I can state however is just by watching him in the gym, you can tell this kid has the determination and the drive to make it to the SMJHL and the potential to be the top of his draft class as his drive and ambition to get better at the game is insatiable. This kid lives and breathes hockey, and is overall a team first player. Any team would be happy if they drafted him.
