+/- Leaders Newfoundland has been the best team in the SMJHL so far this season. And it is no surprise that the top rookie +/- guy is from that same team. Liam Slate (@Tylar) was the Berserkers’ only draft pick this year at the #1 overall pick. Slate is showing that he is up to the challenge by making smart choices and helping his team while on the ice. It is a little surprising Slate is so high while only averaging about 09:46 ice time. Power Play Leaders For any rookie to get time on the Power Play shows that the team thinks highly of them. Adrik Baranov (@Jorec) of the Maine Timber lead all rookies in Power Play points with 5. Maine also has 2 other rookies contributing on the Power Play. Given that Maine as 12 rookies they may not have much of a choice. Colorado and St. Louis each have 2 rookies contributing. Schneider, the top rookie goal scorer, also has the most Power Play goals with 3. Rank Team Player Year PPG PPA PPP

Penalty Killers Johnny Shuffleboard (@mee) of Vancouver was the 3rd overall pick. Shuffleboard’s rushing tatics proves to be effective on the penalty kill, as he has picked up a shorthanded goal and an assist as well. Penatly Killing is a tough assignment for any player but especially for a rookie. Players need awareness and defensive skills to kill or even counter the opposition’s Power Play. These players seem to be up to the task. Rank Team Player SHG SHA SHP

PIMs Leaders Vancouver seems to like the tough hard-nosed players, as the top player for PIMs and Hits are both Whalers. Kyle Izzy (@Samee) is a power forward that likes to play hard. He definitely doesn’t mind a battle of fisticuffs. The 7th round pick has 3 fights under his resume now. So it seems like Izzy’s role is an aggressive one maybe an Agitator. An interesting note is that Anaheim has 5 rookies in the top 12. The Outlaws have done well so far so can’t say that its hurt them too much. But they do have the 2nd most goals against allowed and the most Power Play goals against. Rank Team Player PIM

Shots Blocked Maine must be teaching rookies to perfect the art of shot blocking. The Timber have 5 rookies in the top 8. Alexander Oscarsson (@Zema) leads the team with 46. 11 better than the next player. The counterattacking forward thrives on getting in the shooting lane and giving up his body. With all the rookies blocking shots, Maine has still given up 1123 shots, which is tops so far this season. Rank Team Player SB

Shooting PercentageThese group of rookies make the most of every chance they get when shooting the puck. Lord Raiden (@Jumbobone19) leads all rookies with a shooting percentage of 20%. 6 goals on 30 shots is impressive in itself, but it’s even more impressive that Raiden has done it with an average TOI of 07:47. Game Rating Leaders Rookies are expected to play the game according to the tactics and roles the coaches have set. Some players take time to adapt to their role, and others thrive in their role by putting up numbers. Then there are some players that play their role exactly how it should be played. They may not get the “numbers” but they can be counted on each and every game to do their job. Colin Lambert (@rum_ham) was drafted 7th overall by St. Louis for that reason. Lambert is an all-around great defenseman. He has 3 goals, 9 assists, +17. He plays on the Power Play and the the Penalty Kill. You can’t ask for much more from a rookie. Rank Team Player GR

A great read buddy. I've felt like it's been hard to gauge just how well the rookies have been doing this season as there aren't any stats outside of the game file for just that. It's nice to see that the 12 rookies from Maine has had some impact!

Thanks guys. Since I myself am a rookie, i wanted to focus on that. I may end up doing a Rookie Goalie one if there is enough data to support it.
