TEAM ANALYSIS

Newfoundland Berserkers  Berserkers
The Berserkers have played this season like Detroit last season, steam-rolling everyone in their path and easily clinching the #1 spot for this season's playoffs. They have 2 of the top 6 goal scorers in the league in Minamino and Twist and a rock-solid defense in front of Amundsen, who is coming into the playoffs with the 4th best Save Percentage (0.911) and feeling good (3 Heat).

Detroit Falcons  Falcons
Nobody knows what happened to Detroit this season after their dominant performance last year, and their HO can only hope they can show any sign of the team they were. They started to pick up the pace towards the end of the season, but it wasn't enough to get them out of 4th place in the division (the fact that they almost got pushed out by a still-rebuilding Maine Timber team shows how far they've fallen).

The Factors
Berserkers Win
The only thing the Berserkers need to do to win this series is whatever they did in the regular season against Detroit, given their 7-1 record against what many thought would be a repeat Championship team. If their offense can continue to shine and their defense can continue to protect Amundsen as well as they did all season, this should be a relatively routine series.

Falcons Win

The Falcons are going to need to really figure out what went wrong this season and turn it around for this series if they hope to move on. Edward Williams is performing at a more human level this season (15 goals compared to the 30 of last season), so he'll need to step up if the Falcons want to prove the doubters wrong. Jobin is top of the league in Save Percentage, and he'll need to bring that into this series if Detroit wants to see the second round.

Prediction

It's hard to predict anything other than a relatively quick Newfoundland victory in this series, given how strong they've looked this season compared to Detroit's fall from grace. I can see maybe one or two Detroit games, especially if they can play well at home, but ultimately I think the Berserkers shoot down the Falcons and take it 4-1 to move on to the next round.
