So with playoffs right around the corner, I wanted to release an article highlighting the top offensive lines(and players on those lines) in the SMJHL. I may try to do a Defenseman/Goalie one later.
I have created a spreadsheet that I can input every team’s offensive lines in and it will add up all of the stats for each player for a line total. It highlights the best lines in the SMJHL. After each live sim, I downloaded the league files and checked every team’s lines. I modified my sheet to match them so they are as accurate as possible. The spreadsheet tracks all the major statistical categories.
Here is the google sheet if you want to check it out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing
The current lines I have set are from the last live sim. Obviously if a newly signed player has been added to a team and is on a line, this will impact the lines overall stats.
Lets look at the Top lines in terms of offense.
Most Goals
57 - ANC Line 1
55 - CAR Line 1
53 - NL Line 3
50 - NL Line 1
49 - CAR Line 2
Carolina's top 2 lines are both in top five for scoring. Newfoundland has two lines in top five as well but their 3rd line is their highest scoring line (Colorado only other team where the 3rd line is top scoring line- 46). The top scoring player (Mats Marner-32) was on Newfoundland Line 3, which produce the 3rd most goals in the league. Most Assists
84 - CAR Line 1
84 - NL Line 2
80 - ANC Line 1
71 - MET Line 3
68 - KEL Line 2
Carolina Line 1 and Newfound Line 2 both tied for most assits on year. Carolinas line playmakers are Vitek Vitecek (26), Linus Grimstad (32), Jimmy Wagner (26). Grimstad was 3rd overall in assits on the year. But Newfound had the best setup man on Line 2 with Ryuuji Minamino racking up 35 assist to go with Steve Harrington's 29 and Matthew Forrester's 20. Anchorage Line 1 sits at 3rd closely behind the top 2 lines. Most Points
139 - CAR Line 1
137 - ANC Line 1
130 - NL Line 2
115 - ANC Line 2
115 - NL Line 3
No surprise here. Carolina Line 1 takes top spot as they are the #2 scoring line and #1 playmaking line. Anchorage follows them trailing by 2 points. A surprise Line, Anchorage Line 2, sits at 4. This line is not in either top 5 for goals or assists but still manages to break into the top 5 for points. TURG TURG, Cyril Vyskoc, Theo Kondos are producing very solid numbers Anchorage. Dont underestimate this line. Most PPP 39 - CAR Line 1
39 - MET Line 1
39 - NL Line 2
37 - ANC Line 1
35 - COL Line 1Three teams are tied at 39 powerplay points. Obviously the powerhouses of Carolina Line 1 and Newfound Line 2 are no surprise. But Maine Line 1 showing up. Kyle Sutton, Rikard Hammarberg, and Alexander Oscarsson form Maine's top line. They may not be amongst the top scoring lines overall, but they produce when the opposing slips up. Giving Maine a powerplay opportunity seems like a bad idea. Best SH% 15.92% - NBB Line 3
15.41% - NL Line 3
14.56% - VAN Line 4
14.37% - CAR Line 2
13.87% - NBB Line 1
Shooting Percentage is a category that I really like. These players make their shots count the most. We do see 2 lines here that score a lot, Newfoundland Line 3 with 53 goals and Carolina Line 2 with 49 goal. One would think shooting percentage for top lines would be slightly lower due to the amount of shots taken but these lines both are scoring with precision. Nevada Line 3 and Vancouver Line 4 both seem to make the most of their chances. Nevada's line has scored 25 goals on 157 shots (Raivo Helminen 13, Oskar Baldus 4, Alexis Vermette 8). Vancouver's line has scored 15 goals on 103 shots ( Now lets take a look at more defensive stats Most Pims
120 - COL Line 2
109 - MET Line 2
103 - ANA Line 1
90 - KEL Line 3
83 - MET Line 3
Colorado Line 2 leads the league in penalty minutes. Well I should single out fellow Raptor Juni Panda as 106 of these belong to him, and fellow linemates, JURT and Carlos Brown, only racked up 14 PIMs combined. Juni Panda isnt afraid to get dirty when the time calls for it. Panda has taken on many roles this season; Goon, Enforcer, Grinder, the guy does it all. Maine Line 2 and Anaheim Line 1 both have players are all contribute to their total PIMs. Most Hits
328 - COL Line 2
240 - NL Line 1
215 - CAR Line 2
200 - KEL Line 2
190 - ANC Line 2
Another category that should be just for Juni Panda. The juggernaut forward has accounted for 242 hits on the season, 2 more than any other entire line. Brown (51) and JURT (35) round out the trio. Patric Twist leads Newfoundland line 1 with 114 hits. And I did not realize that Pandas were aggressive creatures. But another Panda shows up on Carolina's Line 2.Panda Panico totaled 130 hits on the year. I would not want to be on the ice with those 2 pandas. Most SB
198 - DET Line 3
181 - QCC Line 1
177 - QCC Line 3
170 - QCC Line 2
163 - NBB Line 1
Shot blocks is an interesting category. It shows a lines willingness to put their body on the line or it shows that a team is under a barrage of shots. Quebec City dominates this category, which is not surprising for an expansion team Alexander Roach on QCC Line 1 leads all forwards with 122 shots blocked. But Detroit Line 3 takes top spot with 198 Shots blocked. Burlok Sulfurgold (46), Taisto Jutila (55), and Sammy Blaze (97). Blaze is 3rd among forwards for shots blocked. So there you have it the top SMJHL lines going into the playoffs. As always I am open for feedback or if I made any errors on this. I tried to be as accurate as possible and put a lot of effort into my spreadsheet. This can be easily be altered so I plan on using it for future years to come. I hope you guys enjoyed.
