This is part 2 of the William Goose saga. Read part 1 here.

In part 1 we found the lone player that unfortunately dodged both of Vancouver's cups in the S40s. William Goose. It was a tragic story, one that tugged at the heartstrings of SHL fans around the world. But since that article was written, new information has come to light. Vancouver GM Luke left after their S48 cup win. He moved to Manhattan to become co-gm of the Rage. His time in the Big Apple changed him. He decided to contact William Goose to right the wrong that he had committed two seasons prior by letting the loyal SMJHL veteran go. In his first season he signed Goose for the Rage. Goose went on to play for the Rage for four seasons, his final a historic season for Manhattan. In season 52 the Rage would win the Challenge Cup, their first in 14 seasons.

Goose would finally get his cup.

In the end, Luke would right his wrong and give Goose one more shot at a cup. Goose never gave up, and was ready when his time came. Would Manhattan have lifted the Challenge Cup without Goose? Absolutely not. Goose had put a curse on Luke to never win a cup until Goose had. Luckily for Luke, this meant that if Goose won with them, the curse would be lifted. This is the untold, true reason why Luke picked up Goose to play for the Rage. And now the Goose Curse is just another part of Rage history. But one wonders what would've happened if things had gone differently. If Goose had been there for the season 48 cup, would Manhattan have won in season 52? If Luke hadn't picked Goose up would they have ever have won again? The lore of the league is long and deep. I would love to know if there are any other curses active. But maybe we will leave that for another time.

What we do know is that Goose is now lying dormant, waiting for his chance at another cup. Should you pick him up, you better let him have it, lest your team never win one again.
