Multiple reports are emerging from those connected with the Anchorage Armada organisation that there was an incident in practice yesterday. It's understood that the Armada held an intra-squad game during practice, which can often lead to tempers flaring and teammates squaring up to each other. But what happened in Anchorage yesterday was - at least according to our sources - rather more than that.
Jay Sink had just finished a stint on the ice, and sat back down on the bench no doubt full of adrenaline and aggression given that he's known primarily for his physical presence on the ice. It's thought that this is when the spark that led to the confrontation occurred. A member of the Armada coaching staff apparently made a disparaging comment about English Breakfast Tea. It's unclear at this stage whether or not the coach's intense dislike of the tea was expressed, or if they merely failed to show the beverage the respect and praise that many from the UK think it deserves. It's said that the first-round rookie rose from his seat in a fit of rage, discarding his helmet and striding towards the coach in question. There are suggestions from at least one source that Sink threw punches before being held back by teammates and coaches, but we are unable to confirm the veracity of this.
While the exact nature of what occurred cannot be confirmed, social media posts from the Anchorage Armada defenceman do appear to indicate that there was a disagreement of this nature. The rookie
tweeted in the early hours of the morning, "No one insults English Breakfast Tea and gets away with it". This incident has clearly had an effect on Jay Sink personally, with him still evidently furious about the situation several hours later.
Quite how this will affect Sink's relationship with the coaching staff going forward is unknown, and you wonder whether or not this will result in a reduction in Jay Sink's minutes for the Armada this upcoming season or if it will be dismissed as a one-off. Who knows, perhaps Jay's outburst will be interpreted in some sort of perverse way as being evidence of his determination and passion.
The Anchorage Armada press team was contacted for comment, but at the time of publication have not responded. In presumably unrelated news, Anchorage Armada co-GM Gabriel Johnson attended yesterday afternoon's press conference sporting a swollen right eye and a large bruise on his cheek.
