Today the crows played the first two preseason games. In the first game, they got a three to two win over Quebec. In the second game, they fell four to one against the Berserkers. Their first goal of the preseason came from rookie Lebron Brady whose new signature is changing from "10 Rings" to "11 Rings" as a tribute to the 11 rings won between Lebron (four) and Brady (seven). There were some outstanding games played which we will talk about below.
Game 1 Standout Player: Kit Kirkstone (Goalie) Kit had 42 saves! Even though he allowed 2 goals, he was impressive the whole game. He had a 100 grade on the game which tells the whole story by itself. His save percentage throughout the game was .955 which to think about it is insane, had they gotten 100 shots off, only 4 to 5 would have gone in. That is lockdown defense if I have ever heard of it. Honorable Mention: Hunter Sharpe (Center) Hunter had an amazing game too which is why I include it here. He was able to knock in an early assist on a pass to Lebron Brady in the first period and from there on played lights out defense. He earned himself a 92 defensive grade which is an A+ in my books. Some of the stats helping him get up to that 92 were his 4 blocked shots and his 4 hits. He had an overall grade of 76 (Victor Federov was right behind with a 75) which was the second-highest behind Kirkstone. The first game of the preseason, it was a solid game. The crow's lacked with only 16 shots to the Citadelles 44. Even with the lack of shots, they were able to be efficient on the offensive side and made up for the lack of possessions with great defense. He was even able to add in 8 faceoff wins to only 3 faceoff losses which is pretty impressive. I would say the defense won this game for them. Shout out to the 10,464 fans who showed up to the preseason game, I am sure they had fun even if their home team lost. Game 2 Standout Player: Hunter Sharpe (Center) Hunter was able to put out yet another amazing game in the second of the preseason. In the time he was on they didn't allow a single goal. He was able to earn himself a defensive grade of 86 with an overall grade of 75. He had 2 shots on goal which helped add to the very little pressure the Crows were able to force. He was able to get 4 hits on the game, keeping up his 4 average through the young preseason. If he can keep his production going and the offense is able to step it up, the Crows could start a run. Rookie of the Game: Dane Von Gucci (Left Defense) Dane Von had a great performance in his second preseason game. He held his plus/minus to -1 which was impressive considering the team's -3 plus/minus. He was able to add on 2 hits and earn himself a 65 defensive grade. He showed a few promising signs in the first game two with a blocked shot, showing he can be a real defensive threat. The second game of the preseason was a little ugly. Once again the crows struggled to put many shots up and as a result, kept very minimal pressure on the other side. New Foundland took advantage of this the whole game and were able to keep turning missed opportunities into multiple shots on the other side. Hundertwasser was able to notch his second assist of the preseason which was one of the few positives on the game. Overall the young team has shown some strengths and weaknesses. The lack of shots on the net could be due to the random lines that were used in the first few games but whatever it is, will need to be fixed before the season. The defense was fairly good throughout with a forehead smack here and there but overall, looks promising for the future.
