SMJHL Teams TPE/Standing analysis
#1
(This post was last modified: 02-23-2021, 05:21 PM by steveoiscool.)

We're getting close to halfway through the season, rookies are starting to find their footing while veterans are racking up the numbers. Some teams got to a hot start, some not so much. It's no secret that some teams are more stacked than others, but let's take a look at what teams are meeting expectations, exceeding them, or completely missing them. For players above 425 TPE we'll use the SMJHL cap in any average calculations, and categories are averaged into offense, defense, goalies, and team average.

It's no secret that QCC's season is cup or bust.  This team is ridiculously stacked, and so far they have been meeting expectations, but we'll see how the second half of the season goes once other teams catch up to them since they don't have a lot of room for growth.

Kelowna is right there behind QCC, despite their average TPE being almost 30 points behind them. This looks to be a close race down the stretch, and Kelowna's stellar defense is going to be huge in the playoffs. Slightly exceeding expectations.

The Berserkers round out the top of the pack, being the last team above 30 points currently. They're a well rounded team with no glaring weakness, and a solid veteran core with room to grow as the season goes on. Meeting expectations.

King Leaf – G 162 TPE
Carter Hart – G 155 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies = 224
AVG TPE of team = 294

The Battleborn come in at a respectable 26 points. They're going through some growing pains on offense but have a solid defense to help relieve that. This will be a scary team in the postseason once they have all their pieces put together. Exceeding expectations.

Armada ANC: 26 points Armada

Utyosov Toyesfki – LW 206 TPE
Janis Lux – LW 218 TPE
Alimony Tony – RW 189 TPE

Kojo Murata – G 160 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 247

AVG TPE of team: 308

Anchorage comes chugging in with a tie at 26 with the Battleborn. Another well rounded team, they may be hurt as the season goes on by their overdependence on Chimkin Tendy. Meeting expectations.

Raptors COL: 25 points Raptors

Tyrone Banks – G 161 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 247

AVG TPE of team: 312

Colorado comes in barely behind the Boats and Goats at 25 points. Much like the Boats, they lean a bit too heavily on their Goalie which may hurt them in the long run. Their offense has a lot of room to grow so hopefully once that happens they can relieve a lot of the pressure from their young Goalie corps. Meeting expectations.

Falcons DET: 23 points Falcons

Salzberger Lillehammerson – RW 225 TPE
Marco Barngrub – C 256 TPE
Viktor Zukal – LW 242 TPE

Valtteri Aalto – G 425 TPE (476)
Podan Podanovic – G 201 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 263

AVG TPE of team: 343

The birds come SKREEEing in at 23 points, still solidly in the middle of the pack but a small step behind. It's hard to tell what's going on here, their defense almost couldn't be better in the SMJHL and their offense is no slouch. No doubt they've had a bit of bad puck luck and will turn it around as the season goes on. Not meeting expectations.

Whalers VAN: 18 points Whalers

Mario Abeebehboosedibadibo – C 179 TPE
Robot Sunfish – RW 228 TPE
Strawberry Sailfish – RW 175 TPE

Mertin Brodeur – G 177 TPE
Keisuke Suzuki – G 270 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 291

AVG TPE of team: 342

Vancouver is coming a step behind the middle of the pack at 18 points, having had a grueling start to their season. They have a balanced offense and defense, with plenty of hungry rookies looking to make an impact as the season goes on. Underperforming, but trending up.

Scarecrows STL: 16 points Scarecrows

Lebron Brady – RW 235 TPE
Brent Ashe – C 159 TPE
Scooby Doo – C 192 TPE

Lucas Andrasak – LD 162 TPE
Ethan Bouchard – RD 236 TPE
Kaito Bouchard – LD 163 TPE
Dane von Gucci – LD 267 TPE
Daryl Urquhart – LD 369 TPE

AVG TPE of defense: 270

Kit Kirkstone – G 250 TPE
Jack Lewis – G 174 TPE
Bean Gamble – G 155 TPE
Iorek Byrnison – G 195 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 194

AVG TPE of team: 293

St. Louis checks in right behind the Whalers at 16 points, and this is just a coinflip team if I've ever seen one. Their offense can score almost at will with 2 full lines of capped forwards, but as soon as those 2 lines are off the ice they're in really rough shape. Their goalie group is weak, but shows signs of improvement. Hard to give a grade on this group, a solid "wait and see".

Kraken CAR: 15 points Kraken

Harald Malmquist – RW 178 TPE
Twelve Forty-Seven Fifteen – LW 205 TPE
Aleks Blixstrom – LW 232 TPE
Cormac Ponaire – LW 234 TPE
Daud Ramza – C 263 TPE
Tomas Lind – LW 395 TPE
Golden Face – RW 307 TPE
Luukas Lilja – C 425 TPE (590)
Kyle Murray – RW 255 TPE
Freyja Hellstrom – LW 371 TPE
Aleksander Kozlov – C 425 TPE (820)
Vincent Wolfe – LW 425 TPE (443)

AVG TPE of offense: 310

Gino Lombardo – LD 183 TPE
Granny PanPan – RD 210 TPE
Ole Olson – LD 425 TPE (448)
Finn von Murphenstein – RD 425 TPE (445)
Jimmy Jimmy – RD 425 TPE (467)
Ashy Larry – RD 222 TPE

AVG TPE of defense: 315

Roddy Ross – G 155 TPE
Shawn Lonkert – G 155 TPE
Ragnar-Alexandre Ragnarsson-Tremblay – G 409 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 240

AVG TPE of team: 301

The Kraken are close behind at 15 points, carried by the play of their veteran netminder and defense. Once this group starts finding the net more consistently they'll be a force to be reckoned with. Dark horse/10.

Outlaws ANA: 15 points Outlaws

Shirakami Fubuki – RW 204 TPE
Videl Valor – LW 184 TPE
Bob Duncan – C 226 TPE
Jack Micro – RW 208 TPE
Ryuuji Kawashima – C 270 TPE
Max Muller – LW 318 TPE
Kaapo Kampainen – C 425 TPE (531)
Walter Burke – RW 425 TPE (433)
John Donair – RW 425 TPE (764)
Thomas Rose – RW 425 TPE (586)
Hubert Andrews – C 425 TPE (532)
James Hagan – LW 405 TPE

AVG TPE of offense: 328

Arturs Tumovs – LD 217 TPE
AJ Tirrell – RD 220 TPE
Sekai Wollker – LD 259 TPE
Matej Winters – LD 194 TPE
Julian Cunningham – LD 199 TPE
Anna Maier – RD 228

AVG TPE of defense: 220

IStawp Puques – G 188 TPE
Vincent Mietitore – G 425 TPE (533)
Marcel Laflamme – G 230 TPE

AVG TPE of goalies: 281

AVG TPE of team: 290

Anaheim comes in tied with the Kraken at 15 points, but I think they have to be happy to be there. Their defense is very green and not doing Vincent Mietitore and co. any favors. Sometimes their offense can keep pace, but they need more help on the back end. Slightly overperforming.

Timber MET: 8 points Timber

Edward Stewart – C 155 TPE
Steven Thomas – LW 184 TPE
Miguel Hefeweizen – C 244 TPE
Maxime Allard – C 218 TPE
Shaq O’Neal – RW 191 TPE
Julian Kazarine – RW 238 TPE
Ellis McPickle – LW 191 TPE
Dogwood Maple – C 425 TPE (438)
Jonny Tsunami – LW 425 TPE (447)
Lucas Johansson – LW 425 TPE (694)
Jesse Seppanen – LW 425 TPE (487)
Victor Ball – RW 340 TPE

AVG TPE of offense: 288

Puddles O’Duck – LD 409 TPE
Latavius Jackson – RD 174 TPE
Janne Virtanen – RD 222 TPE
Lucas Kaiser – RD 227 TPE
Sean Gatez – LD 425 TPE (626)
Bud Light Lime Light Lime – RD 170 TPE

AVG TPE of defense: 271

Walrus Walrus – G 155 TPE
Bloody Oath – G 228 TPE
Bigga Foryu – G 425 TPE (433)

AVG TPE of goalies: 269

AVG TPE of team: 281

The Trees close us out at 8 points. They've obviously had a rough season, and the veterans are trying as hard as they can (Bigga Foryu has stole a couple games almost singlehandedly) but its pretty obvious they're in the middle of a rebuild here. Nowhere to go but up for the Trees.

There haven't been too many surprises so far in the season, but as the gap starts closing between the mostly capped teams and the ones with room to grow there should be a lot to keep an eye on. We'll revisit these stats/standings around the end of the season and see who will give QCC and KEL a run for their money at the top!

Great stuff. Funny to see how many teams are so close together yet the records are dramatically different. Goes to show you how important it is for your GM to understand good line and player tactics.

Cool list and idea but you are not taking into account players that are capped at 350 which is skewing the results

You're right. I wasn't aware of that (I am a rookie as well) but I think the central idea remains true.
