Newfoundland Berserkers Game Reactions for Day 11
Pregame Coverage: The Zerks come into these games as the 3rd best team in the SMJHL. They’ll have another opportunity to test themselves as they will be taking on a solid Anchorage team and then taking on the 2nd best team in the SMJHL in Kelowna. A tough couple games for the Zerks but they can do it. Game 26: Anchorage at Newfoundland A very disappointing game in which the Zerks were the better team but the score ultimately did not reflect that. Hockey sometimes has lucky breaks and sometimes the buck pounces against you and a team shoots for 25%. Hard to do anything about it except take a deep breath and accept. Newfoundland loses by a score of 4-3. After taking a 2-0 goal lead the boats managed to score 3 straight that we just didn’t seem to have an answer for until the 3rd when Shion Okamoto tied it up. Sadly the boats scored late to put them over the edge. Some good Zerk performances in this one. Shion Okamoto for his game tying goal. Billy Brooks for his solid D and opening up the scoring. Bas O’Bigbers played solid two way hockey from the wing position and notched an apple. Robert E.O. Speedwaggon had two apples of his own and Robert Black played a solid game. But there was one who stuck out. Our Zerk of the Game honors goes to: Ric Charlesworth! Ric had a huge goal to put the Zerks up 2-0. But his performance was so much more than that as he won 70% of his faceoffs and bullied the boats tonight by racking up 5 hits. Big night Ric. Game 27: Newfoundland at Kelowna Another disappointing game. Last time out Newfoundland dominated in shots and took the W. Tonight it was not so simple. Tonight we took a very sad L. Rare to see the Zerks lose two games in a row but here we are There were some good Zerk performances tonight. Dwayne Gretzky had a big goal that was assisted by Pasta the Turtle and Nike Kickz Jr. Matty Sandeen, Aleksandrs Balcers, and Billy Brooks all played really good D at the blue line. With that our Zerk of the Game honors goes to: Jonas Caspari for his great performance on both sides of the puck. Racking up 4 hits, and 3 minutes of time on the PK as well as managing an even +-, Caspari really did it all tonight and we are so proud of him. Postgame thoughts: A rare bad couple of games for Newfoundland and Certainly I feel very low about it. Hopefully tomorrow will bring better things for us. I felt like we played very well today but the puck didn’t bounce for us. Word Count: 466 |
