S57 WJC Awards
Once again we would like to congratulate Team Finland on a great tournament and their goldmedal! An incredible achievement that ended in what would be considered an upset before the tournament began.
With that being said, Finland is not why we’re here today. Today, we are honoring those individuals who went above and beyond as they represented their countries and teams in this prestigious tournament. Players who stepped up in the face of adversity and were relied upon throughout the tournament.
We have 5 awards to hand out, so let’s begin.

Disclaimer: GMs vote these awards with tiebreakers being decided by the WJC HO.

DeMaricus Smyth Award for top forward

The player in question represented a group of countries who did not make it past the quarterfinals. He had 13 points in 12 games while leading the tournament in goals during the regular season while showcasing some brilliant two-way play. Deployed in any situation he had the 4th most icetime among all forwards, 1st among wingers.

With that, your DeMaricus Smyth Award for the S57 WJC:s best forward is…

THEO KONDOS, DACH @Ohtaay

Harvey Danger award for top defenseman

There were a ton of incredible performances from defenseman during this tournament, and it ended up being very close. But this player not only proved himself as among the very best in his own end. He also showed up on the scoresheet. 7 points in 12 games with 5 of them being goals. What made him stand out however was his playoff showing. Leading defensemen in points while logging the most minutes on his team while playing any situation as he led Team Finland to the gold medal. Others had a slightly better group stage. Others had a slightly better playoffs. No one else combined the two while playing at the level he did.

Your Harvey Danger award for the S57 WJC:s best defenseman is…

IGOR VICTORY, FINLAND @Wearingabear

Peter Larson award for top goaltender.

No one had as complete of a performance among multiple metrics as our winner for best goaltender. He finished Top 3 in SV%, GR, GAA, Shots Against and Minutes Played. During his 9 games in the group stage he managed a staggering 0.937 SV%. He was the biggest reason for his team even reaching the playoff-stage of the tournament, standing on his head multiple times to ensure victory. It was still a very close voice, but one goalie stood out.

Your Peter Larson award for the S57 WJC:s best goaltender is…

DAMIEN VERTIGO, CANADA RED @damienj10

Alex Andani award for top WJC rookie.

7 points in 12 games in your first ever WJC is an incredible feat. Throw in 8 Takeaways and 12 blocked shots while playing the 3rd most among forwards on his team. Powerplay or boxplay, this winger saw himself being plugged into any situation. And deliver. In the 1 playoff game he played in he also got himself on the scoresheet for the only goal his team scored. A complete performance that will earn him the honors.

The Alex Andani award for the S57 WJC:s best rookie is…

NIKOLAJ BOYLE, CANADA RED @zaynzk

Brady McIntyre Award for WJC MVP.

There were many incredible players who stepped up during the tournament. Clutch goals, amazing saves, tough as nails hits and beautiful breakout passes from many players have made this into a great experience for everyone involved. But, there can only be one MVP.

The winner in this category will take home his 2nd award of the night. The vote was very close between a number of players, but there could only be one.

This Austrian born winger took the step up into the SHL following his MVP winning performance during the WJC. An amazing group stage where he was one of the leading players of the entire tournament.

I give you, your Brady McIntyre Award for S57 WJC MVP…

THEO KONDOS, DACH @Ohtaay

This will be the last thing I do as a member of the WJC HO. New England, real life and my own player is simply taking up too much time for me to be able to properly give it my all for the tournament. Especially during the off-season when it’s being held!

With that, I would like to thank some people. @Ace for bringing me into it and organizing most of it. A great friend of mine who will continue doing great things. @Patty for always being on-point and doing an immaculate job with the file. And @TheSparkyDee for a fantastic job simming, interacting and helping with whatever he can.

Thank you all!

MVP prize to a player who wasn't even able to carry his team to the medal games? I am sorry but that is very weird in my opinion. Congratulations anyway to award winners even though I really can't understand that MVP decision. In sport you really should value winning over everything else and not reward a player who makes points in pretty much meaningless round robin games but disappears in playoffs (1gp 0+0, -1).

Aye! Awesome write up, and thanks you for the support to everyone who voted.

Tough tournament for sure for Dach after the early elimination. But @Rancidbudgie did a great job with the team, and I know they will get to the medal rounds!

Cheers
