In an effort to help me learn the SMJHL I decided to try my hand at ranking the teams based solely on what I know about them, which is only their picture. also 2x first post

Colour scheme – 10 / 10 Love the primary light green colours, very fresh and blends nicely with the blue undertones. The colour scheme really reminds me of Vancouver, with their luscious green forests and blue lakes/oceans.
Team Name – 10 / 10 I am also from Vancouver, therefore the city name would have to non-biasedly be a 10/10. Whaling doesn’t really remind me of Vancouver, but maybe this is historically accurate.
Logo – 10 / 10 Again, these guys dont miss. Great simplistic, informative, and well thought-out logo. Would score a 10 without the team’s name attached.

Colour scheme – 10 / 10 Bright red popping colour, which immediately catches the eye. Really a big fan of the two simplistic colour tones.
Team Name – 10 / 10 I see a falcon flying, and I look at the name and it says falcons; really not a lot more to be expected.
Logo – 9 / 10 Again, big fan of the simplistic logo, fits well with the whole simplistic theme they have going on here.

Colour scheme – 10 / 10 I love the tan with the dark blue; if you were to check a colour wheel, I’m pretty sure you’d see tan and dark blue right across from each other. Primary colours or something like that
Team Name – 6 / 10 Unfortunately, this is where the Battleborn’s really drop in the rankings for me. I find their logo a little awkward and I’m not exactly sure what their logo has to do with a Battleborn. Maybe there is something I’m missing here, but for now this is what is really holding them back from the top tiers.
Logo – 9 / 10 I do love their logo, it is simplistic, unique, and stands out. Would be improved by cutting out the letters from the logo in my opinion.

Colour scheme – 10 / 10 A classic colour, reminds me of a basket team though. Still, I think there is place in the league for a basket ball inspired team.
Team Name – 8 / 10 Again another classic team name, they throw a logo of a grizzly bear on and boom, they hit me with the grizzlies.
Logo – 8 / 10 I will comment on the aggressive stance of this bear, as it is extremely angry. I think notching down the aggressiveness could really help build a following with the younger fanbase. Other then this, I like the bear. I wonder if they have named him.

Colour scheme – 8 / 10 Big fan of this shade of green, might even be better than the Vancouver whaler’s green. Despite this I have given them a ranking of 8, because I’m not a huge fan of the gold. I think there is a lot of potential here, which I feel that a brighter shade of yellow would really harness.
Team Name – 8 / 10 Is this a reference to Kelowna B.C.? if so then I know where this is, if not then I don’t know where this is. I feel like a location should be a place that I personally know, otherwise it is a bad place for a team
Logo – 10 / 10 Logo is good, a very powerful knight. Too bad Vegas really stole your guy’s whole theme eh.

Colour scheme – 9 / 10
Team Name – 8 / 10 Is this really a place, personally I have my doubts. Despite this, the tried and true naming combo of having the same first letter is played off perfectly here once again.
Logo – 7 / 10 At a quick glance sometimes I find that this doesn’t look like a ship, rather it looks like a sharks gaping mouth. Maybe that’s just a personally issue I have to work on, but unfortunately for Anchorage I currently am the one doing the rankings.

Colour scheme – 9 / 10 Big fan of this shade of purple, very regale. This combos perfectly with their gold secondary colour to create a royal theme.
Team Name – 7 / 10 What better animal to complete the royal theme then with an elk. Well, I could think of a few, but elks aren’t the complete last on the list.
Logo – 8 / 10 The elk does look good though, no complaints here.

Colour scheme – 9 / 10 Great colour, red always looks great on a jersey
Team Name – 7 / 10 Outlaws seems very basic, something a peewee time would pick after their first pun got rejected by the overworked, unappreciated coach 7/10
Logo – 7 / 10 A lot going on in this logo, but still manages to portray what it wants to portray.

Colour scheme – 9 / 10 Love the dark colour scheme, would love to see this in action.
Team Name – 7 / 10 Are Newfoundlanders known to be particularly angry? would have to learn the backstory on this one.
Logo – 6 / 10 Love the dark colours, IO find the red takes away from the overall colour drained theme

Colour scheme – 9 / 10 Yellow and black is a classic combo, so good they even made a song about it.
Team Name – 7 / 10 Interesting name for sure, on the fence about it.
Logo – 6 / 10 Hmm, a bit over the top spooky for my tastes

Colour scheme – 8 / 10 Another good colour scheme, great job by all of the professionally colour pickers
Team Name – 7 / 10 The singularity nature of the this teams name says something to me
Logo – 6 / 10 Simplistic and informative, missed opportunity of having the T of timber to be a tree rather then the M

Colour scheme – 8 / 10 Classic basketball colour scheme
Team Name – 7 / 10 Classic basketball name
Logo – 6 / 10 Classic basketball logo

Colour scheme – 7 / 10 Good solid colours, white and blue is hard to mess up. I also enjoy the light blue outlines on the owls’ wings, going for a 3-colour scheme here. bold after so many other teams have only gone with a 1 or 2
Team Name – 1 / 10 Now this just may be my fault entirely, or the fault of the Canadian schooling system, as no prior research or investigation or schooling is present here, but I personally don’t know what a Citadelles is. Its hard to give a good ranking when the team’s name tells me nothing.
Logo – 4 / 10 A fairly busy logo and theme, incorporating 3 – 4 colours, an inner hexagon, with another inner hexagon, within another inner hexagon. I would give this a top tier ranking without the inner hexagon nesting doll contraption.

Colour scheme – 2 / 10 I personally am not a huge fan of this colour scheme. The orange should be a darker or lighter shade, and the secondary colour scheme is not really apparent.
Team Name – 2 / 10 been there done that. The Seattle Kraken have historically had this name since 2021, and its really a shame to see imitators popping up and copying such a historic franchise.
Logo – 2 / 10 Extremely busy logo, especially when sized down makes it quite difficult to tell what’s going on. Clear concise and Constant are what I look for in a logo, especially in 2021 where mobile phones are most of the internet usage.

Carolina had the Kraken name first (2019)! That said, I'm not really a fan of the colors either and am typically not a proponent of wordmark or combination mark logo types for sports teams (even though there are some classic ones)...
I fucking love my team though!

Since I'm a HEMA nerd and I played for Quebec, a Citadelle is basically the French word for fort. The team is named after Citadelle of Quebec which is an old military fort in Quebec.

I don't think its the best name but that's the name they choose.

Honestly, Its kind of like naming your team the North Carolina Braggs or the New Jersey Dix.

The term Battleborn means "something created for conflict". I believe the term (with a space between Battle and Born) is in the Nevada seal and the goat is a very territorial animal that clashes with just about anyone using its horns.
