With the elimination of the Toronto North Stars from the playoffs, it is widely believed that pending UFA Nick Brain is going to hit the open market. The veteran power forward is said to not have any ill will towards Toronto management and enjoyed his time in the city, but is looking to win a Challenge Cup at this late stage of his career and retire with a Cup ring to go along with his multiple IIHF gold medals for Great Britain.

Nick had another down year by his previous standards, scoring 21 goals and notching 21 assists in 42 games, but is still regarded as a capable 3rd liner for a contending team, and can work the powerplay or special teams. Nick did block 101 shots and had a +/- of +11 for an up-and-down Toronto squad, still showing signs of quality two-way play in spite of his age.

Several teams are rumoured to be interested in the player, and agents from Nick Brain's camp say the forward is looking for a one year deal worth $5,000,000. With a potentially loaded free agent class looming however, its anyones guess as to where the veteran from across the pond will end up.
