Well with the draft being double media I figured I would analyze the draft and give my own personal thoughts on each pick.
Round 1 1.) Manhattan Rage - Pass Forfeit - esilverm - 315 TPE The first pick in the draft sounds like a pass and a forfeit, but it actually isn't. Esilverm is a name I feel like I recognize and TPE wise they are very close to the top of the list as well, making this a very solid first overall pick in my book. 2.) Philadelphia Forge (via ) - Ricky Koivu - Gwdjohnson - 300 TPE I must admit, I don't think I am familiar with this user, but 300 TPE is pretty close to the top and I don't blame any team with picking someone that high up. 3.) New England Wolfpack - Leon Lokitonov - ml002 - 263 TPE Now this is where I must say that this surprised me. Not because of the user, who I am aware of, but more so cause of the TPE count. You never know if maybe there is some unclaimed TPE there but picking someone who is already down 50 TPE after a season seems like a reach to me. Like I said, possible that the TPE isn't up to date but there are seemingly better picks around. 4.) Minnesota Monarchs - Dan Baltisberger - Segi - 297 TPE I am again not super familiar with this user, but close to 300 TPE is very solid and feels like an alright pick here. 5.) Toronto North Stars - Faust Faker - Patty - 276 TPE This isn't quite as low as ml002s TPE but 276 is also on the lower end for a first rounder already, basically 40 TPE behind the leaders. 6.) Edmonton Blizzard (via ) - Luke Laraque - biixi900 - 308 TPE I don't recognize the username but Luke Laraque sounds familiar somehow. Has this name already existed or is this a player name? Hm. Not sure! But yeah, solid TPE, good pick. 7.) Hamilton Steelhawks (via ) - Miroslav Ketil - ArmTheSharks - 267 TPE Similar thoughts as before, this feels like low TPE for a first rounder but maybe some updates aren't through yet. 8.) Edmonton Blizzard - Sophie Bordeleau - boom - 317 TPE Always nice to see a female player name, in some ways. Not sure if this is boomTM or someone else, but yeah basically only 1 TPE behind league leader so this is a really solid pick. 9.) Hamilton Steelhawks (via ) - Tommy Westbrook - Gooney - 305 TPE I am honestly shocked that Gooney is still around here. I had no idea! Or is this a return? I know Gooney was always more of an SHL guy and is in some ways legendary here, but his PBE career will always stick with me. Still, probably a solid pick here. 10.) Edmonton Blizzard ( -> -> ) - Patches the III - Big Newff - 315 TPE Another username I recognize and another user with a lot of TPE. Very solid pick here and lucky that he fell this far already. 11.) Los Angeles Panthers ( -> -> ) - Reed Kobo - Toivo - 318 TPE And there we have it, the actual leader of the class so far in TPE, though obviously a lot of the top guys are within a few TPE still. Still, I cannot help but smile at the fact that Toivo went here. He is one of my absolute favorite users in sim leagues and someone I have obviously been very close with. I think Toivo gets consistently taken far too late in drafts, as he is one of the most dependable and consistent users in sim leagues. He has been amazing in many ways and I think he deserves a lot of credit for his consistency. The Los Angeles Panthers got a massive steal here. 12.) Edmonton Blizzard (via ) - Benjamin Surkhi-Ze'ev - HoltzFan10 - 308 TPE Another very solid TPE count for a user I do not recognize. Solid pick here late too. 13.) Buffalo Stampede - Tommy Thompson - Allegiant - 276 TPE Slightly lower TPE count again but a user I think I recognize. 14.) Calgary Dragons ( -> -> ) - Jolmi Koivu - Good_Ole_Kimmy - 301 TPE I definitely recognize this username and have good thoughts about the user. TPE count is also solid. 15.) Calgary Dragons ( -> -> ) - Din Djarin - jsteele14 - 301 TPE Wow, how did Steele fall this far? I guess I am biased again towards people I know already, but Steele is an awesome user and has a history of making solid and consistent earners. GM experience is also always a benefit for players. Steele is the full package and falling this far is surprising. 16.) Texas Renegades - David-Arturri Donskoi - LarryTheMVP - 276 TPE I think I recognize the user but don't know much about them. A bit lower TPE count again here. 17.) Hamilton Steelhawks - Aleksandr Iskandrov - dmuda11 - 311 TPE Another user I do not recognize but with a very solid TPE count. More of a steal here already. 18.) San Francisco Pride - Ben Waters Jr - Waters - 312 TPE Similar to Gooney above, Waters surprised me to see here. With a similar PBE backstory to Gooney, I am surprised to still see him around here. But yeah, I know he is more of an SHL guy and probably solid here. TPE count is good. 19.) Winnipeg Aurora (via ) - Sébastien Dubois - JR95 - 250 TPE I know this user quite well, but the TPE count is a bit lower. So that's a bit tough. Not sure how to feel about that. 20.) Manhattan Rage (via ) - Tom Taylor - TomTaylor - 294 TPE No knowledge of this user but at this point close to 300 TPE is still very solid. Round 2 21.) Edmonton Blizzard ( -> ) - JoJo Larkin - Ox Monkey - 279 TPE I do not know this user, but 279 TPE is alright at this point. 22.) New England Wolfpack - Hynek Heidinger - Spicy Gecko - 290 TPE I love this username so already that is an awesome pick in my eyes. 23.) Minnesota Monarchs - Billy Blazes - bibleman19 - 268 TPE I do not know this user, and the TPE count is a bit lower too, but at this point we are further into the draft. 24.) New England Wolfpack (via ) - Capy Bara - TheWoZy - 271 TPE Wow, another name I very much recognize. Wozy definitely had solid careers in the PBE, but I do not think he has been around in a while. Solid pick at this point with a lot of upside I think. 25.) Hamilton Steelhawks (via ) - B Jobin - Nour - 304 TPE I was shocked to see Nour here, since I know he was commissioner before and really should be a lot higher. I guess he is a goalie which maybe explains falling a little bit, but still you would expect him to go higher than this. I guess he also didn't make it out of Juniors with his last player, but really, I still think this is a massive steal and you gotta imagine Nour will be a great player. 26.) Montreal Patriotes - Taschen Messer - Michiganonymous - 261 TPE I know the user fairly well at this point from other leagues, so this feels like a solid second round pick. 27.) New England Wolfpack (via ) - Seamus O'Slapahan - Z0REM - 275 TPE I know the user fairly well at this point from other leagues, so this feels like a solid second round pick. 28.) Minnesota Monarchs (via ) - Luka Magic - lukamagic - 229 TPE I do not know the user and the TPE count is super low at this point. But I guess not a ton is left at this point. 29.) Atlanta Inferno ( -> -> ) - Kezia MacKenzie - blakec1414 - 240 TPE I do not know the user and the TPE count is super low at this point. But I guess not a ton is left at this point. 30.) Tampa Bay Barracuda (via ) - Don Juan - Cyclo - 254 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems pretty solid at this point. 31.) Philadelphia Forge - BASE PACK - slothfacekilla - 246 TPE I do not know the story behind this but slothfacekilla is one of my absolute favorite users in sim leagues so even if the TPE count is a bit lower I feel like sloth should have gotten picked far earlier than this. He is an awesome person and a great locker room presence. Always highly recommend sloth! 32.) Winnipeg Aurora ( -> -> ) - Ashton King - twigs - 239 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 33.) Baltimore Platoon (via ) - Rocky Baljoa - RockyBaijoa - 234 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 34.) Winnipeg Aurora (via ) - Manon Graves - TheMoonjark - 222 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 35.) Montreal Patriotes (via ) - Marty Sanderson III - Finch - 218 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 36.) Atlanta Inferno ( -> -> ) - Iam Downski - Tonzy - 248 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems decent for this late actually. 37.) Calgary Dragons ( -> -> ) - Mats-Gunnar Kjellberg - Wasty - 204 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 38.) Manhattan Rage (via ) - Kalevi Pukkala - Derry7 - 226 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems okay at this point. 39.) Texas Renegades ( -> -> ) - Sash Sharnaz - sash - 241 TPE I do not know the user. The TPE count seems really solid at this point, this late in the draft. 40.) Seattle Argonauts (via ) - C Jobin - reid - 250 TPE (co-GM pick?) Through this pick and later pick I learned about some of the interesting rules about GM picks in the SHL. The rules here are very different than in other leagues, so I was very curious to learn about them. I am still slightly confused why co-GMs get picked in the 2nd round and full GMs get picked later on, but I guess someone smarter than me figured this out. Still, it is different than elsewhere and so it kinda blew my mind a little to learn this. Round 3 41.) Manhattan Rage - Tanner Aittokallio - Sean - 221 TPE 42.) New England Wolfpack - Adison Bond - Adison - 230 TPE 43.) Minnesota Monarchs - Jeffery Johnson - dangler7000 - 213 TPE 44.) Calgary Dragons - Mando Lorian - RomanceBrownJ - 227 TPE 45.) Winnipeg Aurora (via ) - Shiny Shuckle - Capt_Blitzkrieg - 266 TPE 46.) Montreal Patriotes - Matthew McGarry - Hallsyy - 202 TPE 47.) Winnipeg Aurora - FORFEIT 48.) Edmonton Blizzard - PASS I want to talk about this pass. I know the SHL has very different strategy than PBE and ISFL and I have gotten into this argument before. Most famously about GMs who aren't max earning and how people here somehow think that is a good thing. I got into a similar discussion about this pass. To me this is a way too early pass with some of the players that were still available here. And I feel like the arguments were kinda similar. I.e. teams don't necessarily have space for a prospect play time wise and also cap wise. But rookies don't cost that much and you can always trade someone later on or something. So much can happen in a few seasons until a player would be ready to be called up. What if someone retires early or leaves in free agency? I don't blame just Edmonton, as other teams also passed, but this feels like a continuation of my argument about SHL GM strategy and how I do not agree with it. And it feels like one of those things that I would love to take advantage of if I was a GM myself, but the last 10 times I applied for a job, I did not get it. So maybe I can never try my luck. 49.) Montreal Patriotes (via ) - Perry Theplatypus - curbeecurbs - 228 TPE 50.) New Orleans Specters - PASS 51.) Philadelphia Forge - Dork Dipplet - DorkDipplet - 198 TPE 52.) Tampa Bay Barracuda - Isabella Bouchard - thevoicelesscreator - 233 TPE One of the names that I still recognize and think would have made a great pick for those that passed earlier. 53.) Buffalo Stampede - Portgas D. Ace - TriAsatine - 253 TPE One of the names that I still recognize and think would have made a great pick for those that passed earlier. 54.) Los Angeles Panthers - PASS 55.) Baltimore Platoon - Gravy Train - Gr4vy - 217 TPE 56.) Texas Renegades - Olivia Kunai - BishoujoSenshi4 - 193 TPE 57.) Toronto North Stars (via ) - Fdam Aoote - Guriinwoodo - 213 TPE One of the names that I still recognize and think would have made a great pick for those that passed earlier. 58.) San Francisco Pride - Ronnie Pickering - Matty7478 - 223 TPE One of the names that I still recognize and think would have made a great pick for those that passed earlier. 59.) Montreal Patriotes (via ) - PASS 60.) Chicago Syndicate - Dimitris Chrysanthos - CybershadeEDM - 210 TPE Round 4 61.) Manhattan Rage - PASS 62.) New England Wolfpack - Hunter Havok - H0PPY75 - 246 TPE One of the names that I still recognize and think would have made a great pick for those that passed earlier. 63.) Minnesota Monarchs - Ed Balls - Flareon - 192 TPE 64.) Calgary Dragons - PASS 65.) Hamilton Steelhawks (via ) - Jeff Santiago - Jeffsan21 - 195 TPE 66.) Montreal Patriotes - PASS 67.) Winnipeg Aurora - Lord Farquaads - Ace - 306 TPE (GM pick?) Again, I really don't fully understand the GM pick rules or why this is a thing but... sure I guess! 68.) Edmonton Blizzard - PASS 69.) New England Wolfpack (via ) - Jayson Aittokallio - Luke - 251 TPE (GM pick?) 70.) New Orleans Specters - PASS 71.) Philadelphia Forge - PASS 72.) Tampa Bay Barracuda - PASS 73.) To clear up that one thing; head GMs don't have to use a pick on themselves at all, they're auto-drafted to their team without using a pick. Some of them just choose to do it anyway at a point when they would otherwise have started passing. Co-GMs do have to be selected with the earliest second rounder the team has.

SHL GM pure of heart, dumb of ass
Can confirm I am the same Boom who GM’d the Blizzard for the past four seasons.

yeah guys, max earning means that you actually have an idea of how to put together a team and how to negotiate, that you can work with people and have a sense for who a good draftee is, the only guarantee that you take the league seriously and you will be active, and the be-all-end-all of what a GM should be haha right

Obviously those things are still important for being a GM. I think not max earning as a GM is a red flag though that can mean that you aren't taking the league seriously, as we have seen from plenty of cases in sim leagues. If you don't bother spending half an hour every week on your own player, I don't have a ton of faith in your ability to spend a ton more time that it takes to build a good team. Obviously people disagree with my opinion and that's completely alright too. |
