In Season 58, the Quebec City Citadelles won their first, and currently only, Four Star Cup. It took them 4 seasons after their creation to achieve it, which is an impressive feat. It’s already been a while. More seasons elapsed after their win than it took them to reach it. I think it’s time to see who, from that cup run, is still rocking the SHL. Of the names on the Cup, I have found 11 names that were still playing last season.

Goaltender Tyler Ward recently announced his retirement. He played his whole career with the Edmonton Blizzard, sometime serving as the main goaltender and sometime serving as the Backup goaltender. Ward was quite flexible with his role on the roster. He had his best season stats wise in Season 64 where he finished with a record of 21-28-3 but with a save percentage of .917.

Goaltender Mat Smith is the heart and soul of the Chicago Syndicate goaltending. He has played games for them since S56, meaning he’s already the most vetted player of this gang. He served as back-up goaltender from S56 to S58, moving back and forth between Quebec City and Chicago to serve this duty. After the cup run, Smith was handed the reins of the Syndicate and has been their starter since then. His best season was also S64 with a 41-12-0 record and 0.932 save percentage.

Forward Zdenko Beranek played for a couple of teams since S59, spending 3 seasons with the Calgary Dragons and 4 with the Montreal Patriotes. Beranek, while not the player he was hyped to be for no reason, managed to munch a lot of minutes in the SHL, with an average of 18:00 or so over his career. His best season point wise was 18-22 for 40 points in S65.

Defenseman Yuuto Kira Cloudera Jr is a great minute muncher/depth defenseman with the toronto North Star. He started playing for them in S60 and has been with them since then, playing mostly in the third line. His best season was, in my opinion, S64, where he put up 38 points but also played a hell of a defensive game with 42 takeaways and 106 hits, 144 shots blocked.

Forward William Salming has been one of Seattle Argonauts top talents since being drafted. He joined them after the cup run and has been on the rise in the team since then. He recently had his best season as a two way forward in S65, with 62 points, 79 hits and 85 shots blocked. Salming has it in his DNA to have a legendary career.

Forward Shane Duffy Jr. also moved quite a bit before landing with his current team. He only started playing in the SHL in S62. He played two seasons with the Winnipeg Aurora and the following two with the Toronto North Stars. His best season is S65 with 48 points, playing 20 minutes a night.

Forward Mew Two joined the Baltimore Platoon in S61. He plays a good depth role for them currently, putting some strong season on the team. His last season saw him put up 55 points, his best in career.

Forward Kev Keven has been representing the San Francisco Pride since the end of the cup run. He plays a solid two way forward role for them and had a stellar season in S65. He put up 30 goals and 35 assists for 65 points in that season, also having 118 hits, 76 shots blocked and 34 takeaways.

Defenseman Jasper Maximov played for two teams so far and is on the move for the next season. He played for the Winnipeg Aurora for two seasons before being traded to the Baltimore Platoon. In his career, his best offensive season was in S64, where he put up 20 goals and 37 assists for 57 points in 21:39 minutes a night on average.

Forward Igor Petrov has been a key role player for the Montreal Patriotes since S60. He played good minutes in the last few seasons and had his best season in S65, with 20 goals and 31 assists for 51 points, playing 22 minutes a night. Petrov plays a great minute muncher for a rebuilding team.

Forward Brian Davenport played two seasons for the Seattle Argonauts before moving to the Edmonton Blizzard for the last three seasons. He is not the most offensive minded forward, his best season had 39 points in both S63 and S64.

That’s the 11 players that were still playing in S65. Happy to see so many still going.
