Coming off a season where the Maine Timber won the league championship, they have yet to miss a beat on the ice, looking to return to that same glory here in the start of Season 72. Through the first 17 games of the regular season, Maine sits atop the league with 14 wins (14-1-2), two more than the three teams tied in second place. Aside from the obvious with Maine being the top team in the league rankings, they are sitting with a commanding 100 goals for (9 higher than the next team) as well as an astounding 45 goals against (which is 6 less than the next best team). The work that this team has been putting in on and off the ice is outstanding and can be seen with the commanding statistical presence they have so far this season. Although only having a 2-game lead on the second place opponents is not much, an outstanding +55 differential is remarkable this early in the season (this is +20 higher than the next most efficient team). Aside from the overall team statistics, Maine has a handful of players who are leading the way and really making it look easy on the ice!
Iliket Urtles:
Currently one of the top offensive players on the Maine Timber is Iliket Urtles, 6’ 4” Right Wing. Currently, Urtles is tied for 2nd among leaguer leaders in assists (19), tied for 1st in points (28), and 6th in shot percentage (21.43%). Urtles has played astronomically well this year touting a 16 +/-, an overall game rating of 82, and an offensive game rating of 79, and a defensive game rating of 79 to match. Urtles has been an integral component of the offense this season and we look forward to seeing how things pan out.
Mick Mayhem:
On the defensive side of the puck, Mayhem has been just that, a defensive menace that opponents fear night in and night out. Sitting with a 79 defensive game rating, and an 82 overall game rating, it is clear to see why people fear Mayhem on the ice. Ranking amongst all defensemen in the league, Mayhem sits 1st atop the leaderboard in assists (15), tied for 1st in total points (17) and with 40 blocks on the season, he is the goalie’s best friend. Mayhem has been a defensive juggernaut on the ice and has been an integral component to the Timbers success in the early season.
Netminder:
While both Bernard Lodge and Nelly Celly have been getting minutes in the net, Lodge is the primary netminder for the Timber here in the early season. Only having allowed 28 goals through 296 shot attempts, Lodge has been a brick wall in the net, touting a .905 save percentage. Celly, while having played roughly half the minutes this season that Lodge has, also holds a .903 save percentage (16 goals on 165 shot attempts). Both goalies have been playing astronomically well, no wonder opponents don’t want to face the timber this season!
Rookie Report:
With their first and second round selections, the Maine Timber selected Jeff Goldblum and Jordan Thompson respectively. On the defensive side of the puck, Goldblum has been playing very well, holding a 19 +/-, 17 blocks, 32 hits and a defensive game rating of 71 through an average of 18:48 minutes per game. Thompson is holding his own on the offensive side of the puck as well. Through the first 17 games, Thompson has 4 goals and 15 assists (19 points), with a 12 +/-, a 75 offensive game rating, 69 defensive game rating and an overall 77 game rating, impressive stats for someone on the ice only an average of 17:26 minutes per game. We look forward to seeing how these two young Timber continue to develop during their true rookie season and believe the future is bright at the next level for these two.
