Pre-Season is always interesting, while it may mean nothing to a lot of people and the players are not at their full strength yet it can give you somewhat of an indication of what will happen in the upcoming regular season. The main importance is taking the learnings with a grain of salt because players develop. Strategies change and sometimes the whole lineup changes. But it is still a nice first look at how things can play out.
General overview: There was an obvious Pre-Season winner with the Detroit Falcons. Out of 7 games, they won 6 and their only loss came in Overtime for a total of 13 pre-season points, with Great Falls and Kelowna close behind with 11 and 10 points respectively. Next up would be Quebec City and Colorado with 9 points each and 8 points for Maine, Nevada and Anchorage. The rest of the league is down there with between 6 and 2 points. Scoring: Detroit also dominated in goal difference with a league high +17 having scored 29 goals and only letting 12 in. Only 4 other teams scored more goals than Detroit but let in way more goals for a worse goal difference. These are Colorado with 35 scored, but 38 against, Quebec City with 31 scored, and Kelowna and Maine each with 30 goals. Worst goal difference was also the lowest scoring and last place after Pre-Season with the Yukon Malamutes only scoring 18 while getting scored on 36 times for a -18 difference. Leaders: Aksel VINSen of the Battleborn and Lucki Blackwood share the lead in goals scored in pre-season with 7 goals scored each, followed by a bunch of players scoring 6 each. Jeff GoldBlum of the Maine Timber leads with 9 assists with Jussi Mutou close behind with 8. You will find known players then in the points leaders with Jussi Mutou with 13 together with Aksel VINSen and Shadow Fenix of Colorado right behind with 12 points total over the pre-season for a strong showing of the Colorado Raptors. The best goalie of Pre-Season should be no surprise for someone looking at the scoring with Wayne Holloway of the Detroit Falcons sporting an impressive .943 save percentage followed by Charlie van Keyzer from St. Louis with .936 and Stan Free from Carolina and their .928. Of those only Wayne Holloway who was SV% leader played all 7 games of the pre-season which makes their lead even more impressive. While the regular season is still very young we can see that after 4 games Detroit is taking their success at least for now into the regular season. Not being unbeaten, they have only lost one game so far though. Quebec who ended in 4th place after Pre-Season is currently leading the board while Great Falls who took second has not managed to bring their success over so far being in 13th place losing all 4 games so far. While some trends sure seem to carry over for others we need to get further into the season to validate and focus on the trends, but it is always a great look towards what the future for the season holds.
