Reigning SMJHL MVP Transfers IIHF Nations

![]() IIHF Head Office Fantasy Flame Out ![]() ![]() Shocking news out of Yukon as notable Gainesville, Florida native and alternate captain of the Yukon Malamutes Langston Hardison-Laurent has declared that he will be playing for Team Switzerland in the IIHF. According to the former member of Team USA, this change comes after news that his mother, Gretta Laurent, is Swiss, something he was not told his entire life. Apparently, she did want to tell him as he kept on begging for chocolate as a kid and did not want to spoil him with the good stuff. Now that he has grown and managed to make something of himself as an athlete, she finally broke the news to him. Based on actual Swiss law, Swiss citizenship can be claimed through the maternal line. As such and with a belly full of fondue, LHL has decided to declare for the Swiss Federation. When asked for a reason, LHL mentioned that he wanted to do right by his mother who did so much to raise him and he loves Skiing. We will closely monitor Langston's waist as he apparently is getting ready to buy a lot of chocolate. There is evidence of anything too illicit so far, except for some very expensive looking watches that he has been sporting. Langston Hardison-Laurent's international career has not had the overblown numbers that he had last season in Yukon. In S73, in his debut where he played for Team North America, Langston attained 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points (-6) in 12 games. Then in S74, for Team USA Blue, LHL scored 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points (+1) in 12 regular season games and scored once in USA Blue's first round loss. In the SMJHL, Langston has 172 points in 162 regular season games, but has regressed a little this season in terms of scoring. While still leading the Malamutes, Langston has experienced a somewhat unremarkable early part of the season, but has turned into more of a passing forward as teams seem to honing in on him. Langston's goal scoring has fallen while he is on pace to shatter his personal best for assists in a season. A forward who can change their game to mold with the team could be a major asset for the Swiss Federation. Oddly enough, this will pair Langston up with his statistical rival from last season, Jeff Hunziker. Both these players led the SMJHL last season in points and played extremely well together at the S74 SMJHL All Star Game, helping lead their team to victory. The Swiss, for their part, are coming off a solid silver medal in the latest IIHF Tournament, but were glad to welcome some new, young talent to the smaller federation. The Swiss had a group stage record of 7-5 before going on a huge run in playoffs. This was one of the better Swiss finishes and they are hoping to continue to make these long runs into the playoffs, but consistency has always been tough. The new federation heads of Switzerland have been looking to pursue younger players to supplement their homegrown roster. Team USA, on the other hand, emerged as a defensive power house this last IIHF and has a litany of talented players in its ranks. Langston expressed that he has no personal ill will towards Team USA and has loved representing them in the past competitions, but felt a need to aid his mother's country. However, some are speculating that Langston is looking to protect his growing bank account and hardware collection in Swiss banks. Stay tuned for more information.
