Coming off a disappointing loss in game 7 against the Carolina Kraken, the Raptors looked to rebound with rebuilding the troops. They did that in spades it looks like, especially when you look at the early season performance by all four players selected by the Raptors. The team needed to replenish its forward ranks, and did it ever!

12th overall – Kral King

Kral is a big winger, standing at six feet, three inches and 226 pounds. He is extremely well balanced, but excels mostly in his skating ability. He can absolutely fly which helps him get open to unleash his pretty powerful shot. He has been playing on the all-rookie third line with two of the other S77 draft picks selected after him.

17th overall – Campbell Fischermann

Selected at the start of the second round, Fischermann best assets are on the offensive end of the ice. Like King, he is a big player, standing at six feet, three inches and 225 pounds. His puckhandling, passing, ability to get open and his offensive mind really make him stand out among the crowd. He has been on the left wing of the all-rookie line with King and Storm along side of him. He has been a revelation on the offensive end of the ice, especially considering the playing time he is getting.

28th overall – Zeus Storm

The center of the all-rookie line, Storm brings a ton to the table. A smaller player than his linemates, standing at six feet 200 pounds, he has an extremely even balance of skills. He does stand out in a few catagories though. He is extremely good in the faceoff dot for being just a rookie, which is why he is centering this star-studded line. He is also very well balanced in the offensive zone. He might need to work on going to the dirty areas a little bit more, but right now that is what his linemates are for!

44th overall – Hvaik

The Raptors finished their draft selecting the tall, lanky center Hvaik. Standing at six feet, four inches and 196 pounds he definitely needs to put on some weight to fill out his large frame, but he was selected because of his shot. He is an absolute sniper out there and he does very well in the faceoff dot, which has earned him second line minutes with the Raptors. There are no glaring weaknesses in his game, so it goes to show you can find a diamond in the rough even late in the draft.

At the mid-way point of the season, these four rookies have shined in their new roles. The four players have combined for 109 points, with 44 goals and 65 assists and a +24 rating. Mind you most of them are averaging very little ice time and only two of them have even sniffed a power play unit. As their ice time grows, their numbers will only grow along with it. Either way, the future seems to be very bright in Raptor land. The return to the top of the mountain may not be as far away as was initially thought!
