Good day eh, were you too busy to tune into the SHL streams this week? Didn't want to watch or couldn't get to your screen in time? No worries, I gotcha covered for these playoffs, I will be recapping each round of the playoffs and breaking down each series game by game so that you can stay up to date on the happenings around the SHL. If you are familiar with the Squidcaps I've done for the SMJHL playoffs before, I will be doing something similar for the SHL and may be trying to turn it into a weekly thing. Recapping who has done what, outstanding performances, and trying to keep you informed about sim-related happenings. The goal is to make it an easy way to refresh yourself or be informed on happenings around the league without having to tune into every sim or check the index for each game yourself. This week we will be recapping the 1st round of the SHL Playoffs. (not including the re-sim) Starting in the Western Conference:
![]() ![]() Game 1: 5-3 SFP ![]() Winnipeg jumped out to a 3-1 lead, sparking a San Francisco 3rd period comeback which would see 4 third period goals, 1 coming on the power play and 1 shorthanded. Rowan O'Beirne and Sydney Shaw heated up to ignite the comeback, tallying 2 points in the 3rd period each. Jayson Aittokallio was a lockdown defender for the Pride in this one. Game 2: 7-2 SFP ![]() Winnipeg shot out of a cannon early and came out with a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period, but San Francisco would tally 7 straight to take this one. The big guns would come out in full force as Hargreeves, Scholz, Soderberg-Snooks and Bayle all put up 3 points. Justin Time would make 25 saves and have a .930 save percentage. Shaw was good on the back end with 3 takeaways. Game 3: 4-3 WPG ![]() San Francisco outplayed Winnipeg badly in this one, outshooting them 37-15 and dominating in all stats. However Rhett "Shaggy" Carpet had other plans, standing on their head and making 34 saves with a .920 save percentage they were able to steal the win. Mikko Rashford had 2 of the goals for Winnipeg and Hardison-Laurent picked up 3 assists as Winnipeg takes their first game of the series. Game 4: 7-3 SFP ![]() San Francisco woke up in the third period after entering it tied 2-2. The Pride would score 4 times in the first half of the third to pull away and not look back. Luke Laraque and Mercedes Bayle each picked up 3 points in the win to put the Pride up 3-1 in the series. Game 5: 10-3 SFP ![]() Hungry for another shot at the Challenge Cup, San Francisco punched their ticket to the next round with their first shot at advancing. Putting up a 5 goal first period and outshooting Winnipeg 42-21, the Pride put their foot on the gas and never looked back. Logan Webb had a hattrick, Schattenaxt, Scholz, and Hargreeves all had multi goal games, with Laraque, Ozolinsh and Winters putting up 3 assists each. A big performance by the entire team in this one would see them advance. Result: 4-1 San Francisco ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 9-2 TEX ![]() Texas would go up early in the first period and run away with the game, tallying 4 goals in the first period to put this one out of reach early. Outshooting Chicago 55-23, Mads Mcbride and Chris Valentine would each put up 2 goals and 1 assist, with Meowski, Diehm, and Minaj getting 3 points each as well. Hodor racked up 12 blocked shots and John McCarthy had 3 takeaways on the defensive side. Game 2: 7-4 TEX ![]() A back and forth battle in this one, a 3 point game from Alexandros Mograine kept Chicago fighting, but the Renegades would pull away at the end of the second period. Svoboda would put it out of reach with the 6th goal for Texas and the empty netter for his second goal of the game. Chris Valentine and Marton Diehm each had 3 points in the win, and Hodor had a stunning 11 blocked shots. Game 3: 6-3 CHI ![]() The Syndicate would take home their first game of the series off a great second period effort that had them put up 4 goals with two coming shorthanded on the same powerplay. Cracker Pizza and Ryu Jones each had 2 goals and 3 points for Chicago, with Dave Heinrich picking up 3 points too. Ho Lee-Smokes was phenomenal on defence and blocked 10 shots in this one. Karter Mendenhall made 32 saves in order to backstop his team to a win. Game 4: 7-2 TEX ![]() The Renegades upped the tempo in this game, taking 55 shots putting up 7 goals. Lasse Zeigler had a stunning game, having a 5 assist night with 4 hits. David-Arturri Donskoi would pot 2 goals and 3 points, with both goals set up by Zeigler. Anthony Dionne was great in net with 28 saves and a .930 save percentage. Game 5: 5-3 TEX ![]() The Renegades came out and established a lead early and would hold the lead for the entirety of the game. A 3 goal third period from Chicago would make it closer but Texas would dominate the flow of the game, outshooting them 57-21. Marton Diehm would add 2 goals and 3 points, and Lasse Zeigler would put up another game with 3 assists. Chris Valentine would grab 3 takeaways to go along with a goal and assist as the Renegades win the series in 5 games. Result: 4-1 Texas ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 2-1 LAP ![]() A goaltending duel kicked the series off, with Calgary's Rebecca Montagne having 38 saves and a .950 dueling the Panthers' Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz who had 21 saves and a .960. Derek Martin and Evan Winter would strike in the second period, with Winter's goal standing as the game winner. Game 2: 5-3 LAP ![]() A back and forth game would see the teams tied heading into the third period, where Elena Maximova would score halfway through to make it 4-3, before Akerson tapped in an empty netter. Bergling, Martin and Winter would get 2 points each, with Winter getting an assist on the final 2 goals. Game 3: 10-0 LAP ![]() Los Angeles blew out the Dragons in this one, winning by a massive score of 10-0. Outshooting Calgary 44-17 while burying 2/3 of their power play opportunities, the Panthers ran the score up. With a Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz shutout and 4 players contributing with 3 points, the Panthers just outclassed Calgary in this game. Game 4: 6-3 CGY ![]() A big bounceback game for the Dragons as they fight back and prevent the sweep. Calgary would score three times in the first period and take a commanding 4-0 lead early in the third period. Los Angeles would pull within 1 goal but Crystal McLeod would put it out of reach with a late shorthanded marker for their 3rd point of the night. Game 5: 4-3 OTW CGY ![]() The teams would exchange the lead multiple times in this one, before Georg N'Zola tied it up with 4 minutes left in the third period to force overtime. Oranj Konhe would battle through and bury the overtime winner as the defender notched their second point of the game, while putting up 5 blocked shots. Arthur Kaliyev had 2 goals in this one to tie the game at 2-2 and to put the Dragons ahead 3-2. Cheeks Klapanen had 5 blocked shots and an assist from the back end and Rebecca Montagne had 31 saves with a .910 save percentage to force a game 6 for the Dragons. Game 6: 7-4 LAP ![]() This one was closer than the score suggests with the teams exchanging goals throughout the first two periods, Calgary had the lead 4 times but Los Angeles would battle back and tie it each time. The last tying goal would come halfway through the third period, just before the Panthers took their first lead of the game with 5 minutes left in the game off a power play goal from Georg N'Zola. Los Angeles would extend the lead with two empty net goals in the final minute to clinch the series in 6 games. Adam Prpich had 3 points in the win to lead the team to another second round appearance. Joonas Salat put up 2 assists from the point with 4 blocked shots, and Reed Kobo would have 2 assists and 3 blocked shots in the win. The special teams were a difference in this one, with the Panthers scoring on 2 of their 3 power plays. Result: 4-2 Los Angeles ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 4-3 MIN ![]() Minnesota jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, but New Orleans would battle back and tie the game just 40 seconds into the third period. But Minnesota would break the hearts of Specters fans and score with just 1:26 left in the third period to secure the win. New Orleans's Bernard Lodge made 39 saves in the loss while Ally Mathieson but up 28 saves to earn the Minnesota win. Meta Knight, Gordon-William Gibbles, Nevek Kove and Hai Nam Hoang each had 2 points in the win. Kove would add 5 blocked shots to their 2 point night as well. Game 2: 7-2 MIN ![]() Minnesota would double the Specters shots 45-22 in this win, entering the second period up 3-1. The second period would have the Monarchs bury 4 more goals to make it 7-2 and they would hold on to secure the win. Hai Nam Hoang and Oles Kobliska would put up 2 goals each and a myriad of players would tally 2 points as well in the win. Laser Gato had 6 blocked shots from the back end with Egli and Kove blocking 5 a piece. Game 3: 6-5 NOLA ![]() A back and forth second period would see the game enter the third period tied up, with Minnesota striking early to make it 4-3. A quick two goal response from the Specters had them gain the lead and extend it with 1 more late marker. Minnesota would pull within 1 goal with 4 minutes left, but the Specters hold on and get the win. Luca Pane had 3 points with 2 goals for New Orleans and Billy Hill laid his body on the line with 8 blocked shots as the Specters take their first win of the series. Game 4: 2-1 MIN ![]() A defensive battle between the teams in this one, with Minnesota edging out the win. Binko Koivu would strike twice for the Monarchs in the second period to clinch the game. New Orleans would score with just 34 seconds left in this one, but it would be too little too late. Jeff Newman was amazing for the Monarchs, putting up 31 saves and a .970 save percentage entering the series for the first time. A big game for both team's defenses, Adelie de Pengu and Lazer Gato each put up 6 blocked shots, and Emil Egli and Nevek Kove had 4 blocks each as well. Game 5: 3-0 NOLA ![]() New Orleans would get on the board in the first period with a goal by Artturi Lappalainen, which would stand as the game winner. Bernard Lodge stood on their head for the Specters, putting up a shutout with 25 saves in a must-win game. The Specters defense put it all on the line and blocked a combined total of 24 shots to help their goaltender put up a shutty. Game 6: 4-1 NOLA ![]() Minnesota would get on the board first, but a third period rally from New Orleans would see them score 4 goals in the span of 2 minutes and 17 seconds. Surkhi-Ze'ev, Rhodes and Tingle would each put up two points in that span to push the Specters to the win. Lodge would have another great game and turn aside 23 shots as NOLA wins two in a row to force a game 7. Game 7: 6-3 MIN ![]() The game would be tight through the first two periods, entering the second intermission tied 3-3 after a late period equalizer by New Orleans. Hai Nam Hoang would strike just under a minute into the third period for the Monarchs, before another two goals would make it 6-3 Minnesota. They would shut it down for the rest of the game and Minnesota would advance to the second round for the first time since Season 46. Hai Nam Hoang, Nevek Kove and Gordon-William Gibbles each had 3 points in the win and Kove would block an impressive 5 shots in the series clinching game. Jeff Newman would put up 36 saves and a .920 and earn his second win in the series. Result: 4-3 Minnesota ![]() Eastern Conference:
![]() ![]() Game 1:7-2 PHI ![]() Philly showed why they were top of the league in this one, scoring on 2/3 of their powerplays and putting up 7 goals. BASE PACK had 35 saves and a .950 save percentage while Cale Salad and Ubba Lodbrok put up 3 points each. Marek Carda had 5 blocks as a forward and the Forge take a 1-0 series lead. Game 2: 6-2 PHI ![]() Hamilton would strike first in this match, before Philadelphia scored 4 straight unanswered goals to make it 4-1. A 3 assist, 3 takeaway night from Leonard Wood helped propel the Forge forward, a 2 goal night from both Gnabe Dabson and Marek Carda. BASE PACK made 34 saves and had a .940 save percentage to help push the number 1 ranked team to another win. Game 3: 6-5 HAM ![]() Hamilton would strike early, potting 4 goals in the first period on their first 6 shots. Activity Check would make it 5-1 halfway through the second period with their 3rd goal of the game. Philadelphia is no stranger to adversity though and would battle back to tie it at 5-5 just 5 minutes into the third. Bnana NWaffles had a huge goal just a minute later to make it 6-5 Hamilton before holding on to the win. Zedward Zilliams had 6 blocked shots on the back end, while Trevor Lahey had 3 assists on Activity Check's 3 goals. Game 4: 6-3 PHI ![]() The teams would exchange goals throughout the first period, with Hamilton taking the lead then Philly tying it repeatedly. Philadelphia would pull ahead in the third period and grind out the win with 3 late goals. Tony Soprano had 2 goals and an assist for Philly, Virrok, Salad and Hazbite each had 2 points in the win. Nathaniel Barca picked up 1 assist and a big 6 blocked shots. Game 5: 7-2 PHI ![]() A big game from the Philadelphia Forge would see them knock out the Steelhawks in 5 games. Doubling their shots 41-17, Philadelphia would be up 3-2 in the second period and expand the lead with 4 goals in the third period. Tony Soprano had 2 goals and 1 assist, with Red Kirkby adding 2 goals from the back end. Antonio Flusso and San-sam Emerson were solid on defense, with Flusso putting up 2 blocks and 3 takeaways and Emerson with 5 blocks and 1 takeaway. The 1st ranked team in the SHL, Philadelphia moves on to the second round for the 9th consecutive season. Result: 4-1 Philadelphia ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 5-3 BUF ![]() The teams would trade leads in the first period of this one, before Buffalo would start to pull away halfway through the second period. Prince Marius would put up 1 goal and 2 assists on the final 3 Buffalo goals to clinch the win for his squad. Jarrod Lakemore would put up 3 assists and 3 hits to make his mark on the game as well. After 31 saves from Casey Fantobens and 5 blocked shots from Ragnar Lothbrok, the Stampede get the win. Game 2: 4-0 BAP ![]() Baltimore's team defence came out in full force in this one, limiting the Stampede to only 24 shots. Sir Devoir was great in net as the veteran netminder posted the first shutout of the playoffs and made 24 saves. A 2 goal night from Matsmith Soderberg-Tremblay, his first would stand as the game winner. Game 3: 4-2 BUF ![]() The Stampede put up a goal in the first period and would add 2 more in the second period to make it 3-1 entering the third. After pulling within 1, Buffalo scored an empty net dagger with 30 seconds left to make it 4-2. Five-Hole Sieve had 23 saves and a .920 save percentage for Buffalo. Daniel Grumathan and Prince Marius linked up for 2 points each to contribute offensively. Furious Chicken picked up a goal from the back end while putting up 5 blocked shots. Game 4: 6-5 BAP ![]() Buffalo would enter the first intermission up 3-1, but a 4 goal second period from Baltimore would see them take the lead. Two early third period goals from Buffalo would tie the game, but Philip Fry would score a Platoon power play goal to win it with 4 minutes left. Adam Liebold and Ekaterina Valieva both had 1 goal and 2 assists and Sven Petterson led the team with 7 blocked shots. Game 5: 4-1 BUF ![]() The Stampede were never really in major trouble in this one, gathering a 2 goal lead to head into the third. Another 2 goals from Bufflao would make it 4-0 before a late goal by Baltimore put them on the board. Five-Hole Sieve was unreal in this game, making 43 saves and stopping 19/20 shots in the third period to cement a .980 save percentage and the series lead for the Stampede. Jarrod Lakemore had the game winning goal on his first of two, and a two point night from Kane, Chicken and Morgonstjarna has them take the lead in the series 3-2. Game 6: 5-4 BUF ![]() A back and forth game would see the teams exchange leads throughout the first and second periods, with a 4-3 Baltimore lead to enter the third period. A goal by Buffalo a minute in would tie it up at 4 a piece, but it would be Tiberius Kane to play hero for the Stampede with a heart breaking goal with just 3 seconds left in the third period. Kane would tally his second point of the night to win it and Jarrod Lakemore had a great night with 3 points. Five-Hole Sieve was on fire in this one, making 39 saves on 43 shots to earn their third win in the series. Result: 4-2 Buffalo ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 5-4 OTW ATL ![]() Tampa Bay would come into the third period up 3-1 before dueling goals would make it 4-2 early in the third. Hinata would strike back to close the distance to 4-3, and Hopoate would tie the game to force overtime with 2:10 to play. Jae-ik Barron would be the hero for Atlanta, capping off their comeback with the OT winner 7 minutes into the extra period. John Hopoate had 2 goals and 1 assist in the win, and Jae-ik Barron had two goals to lead the team to victory. Tibuk Soonika was on fire for the Barracuda and had 45 saves in the loss. Game 2: 5-2 ATL ![]() Atlanta would carry over their play from the third period of game 1, and dominate the first period by a score of 3-1 while outshooting Tampa Bay 19-9. Tampa would pull within 1 goal in the third period but Atlanta would answer back shortly after and hang on for the win. Kristian Seppanen provided offense from the back end and scored two goals in the win, with Hopoate and bongo pitching in with 2 points each. Shoyo Hinata was strong at both ends, scoring a goal and adding 5 takeaways. Tanner Pitts made 26 saves in the win for Atlanta, while Soonika had 48 saves for the Cuda, facing 103 shots in just 2 games. Game 3: 5-4 TBB ![]() The Barracuda would go on a 3 goal run to take the lead and never trail in this one. Atlanta would tie it early in the third period, but Tampa would strike back extremely quickly to regain the lead. Rikkert Biemans had a big impact on the game for the Cuda, picking up 1 goal and 2 assists being the only player with a multipoint game for Tampa in this one. Jolngustraaduvich DuBolk had 6 blocked shots and added in two hits for the Cuda to make it 2-1. Game 4: 3-1 ATL ![]() Atlanta was heating back up in this one, putting up 2 goals in the first two periods to enter the third period with a 2-1 lead. MacKenzie would score their second goal of the game off a dish from Hinata into the empty net to put this one out of reach. Tanner Pitts was solid in net with 29 saves and a .970 save percentage to make the series 3-1. Game 5: 3-2 OTW TBB ![]() Atlanta was on fire in this matchup, jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead and outshot Tampa Bay 45-27. Johnny Wagner-Svenson, Fitted *Primetime99* Cuddles and Max Carnage would put Tampa Bay back in this one though, linking up for 2 goals to tie the game. Needing extra time in this game, Shawn Pawn would bury the overtime winner 5 minutes off a feed from Dag-Otto Bjorntjanst. Tibuk Soonika turned away 43 shots for a .960 save percentage, forcing a game 6. Game 6: 7-4 TBB ![]() Tampa Bay came out with a 5 goal run in the first period and despite Atlanta pulling within 1 goal in the second period, Tampa Bay would put up 2 third period goals to clinch the win. Billy Herrington would try to push the Inferno to a win but despite scoring 4 goals Atlanta falls to Tampa. A 3 point night from Rikkert Biemans and The Murray would help Tampa force an important game 7 as they climbed back from being down 3-1 in the series. Game 7: 4-2 ATL ![]() Atlanta would come out of the gates and refuse to lose this one. After the teams exchanged goals in the first period, Atlanta would score twice in the second period and make it 3-1. They would strike again with a goal in the third period and despite a power play goal from the Cuda with a minute left, Atlanta would hold on and win this one. Tanner Pitts would make 27 saves and have a .930 save percentage to backstop the team to the second round. Billy Herrington would put up another 2 goal performance in this one, making it 8 goals in 7 games for him. Atlanta outshot the Cuda 300-238 in this series, with a phenomenal performance from Tibuk Soonika in net for the Barracuda. Result: 4-3 Atlanta ![]() ![]() ![]() Game 1: 5-2 TOR ![]() Toronto would never be behind in this game, leading 2-0 after 2 periods before pushing the lead to 3-0 after an early third period goal by Mac Turner. Turner's goal would stand as the game winner, and he would strike again after New England made it 3-2. Denebor Milasch stood tall for the North Stars and made 38 saves, posting a .950 save percentage. Ace Lightning would lay their body on the line and block 9 shots and add 2 assists in this game. Toronto would outshoot the Wolfpack heavily, with New England's Olof Karsikko putting up 51 saves on 55 shots in the loss. Game 2: 8-5 NEW ![]() New England would strike back in this one, jumping out to a 1-0 lead and entering the second period tied 2-2. The Wolfpack would go up 4-2 and never look back, but Toronto would try to rally with a stunning 3 shorthanded goals in the third period, but after two empty net goals the Wolfpack took this one 8-5. A 4 point night for Matiss Ozolinsh, Outdoor Truck, and Ivan Lacksamus would make this a series as the teams split night 1. Game 3: 5-2 NEW ![]() A game that was closer than the score would indicate, Toronto outshot the Wolfpack 42-21 and the score was 3-2 until the final minute of the game before New England tallied two empty net goals. Nathan Cormier and Antoine Beauregard each had 3 points in the win for the Wolfpack. Olof Karsikko was a wall in net, making 40 saves and only allowing 2 goals. Game 4: 2-1 OTW NEW ![]() A close low-scoring affair would see the teams even in shots and tied after two periods. The teams would need extra time in this one, with the line of Tooyo, Beauregard and Cormier linking up to score for the second time to win it for the Wolfpack. Olof Karsikko put up 37 saves and a .970 save percentage to win the goaltending duel against Milasch who had 37 saves and a .950 save percentage. Seamus O'Slapahan was phenomenal in this game, blocking 5 shots and adding 3 takeaways while playing 29 minutes which stood as the most time on ice in this one. Game 5: 5-1 TOR ![]() New England would get on the board first, but not until a minute into the second period. Toronto would get on the board after a shorthanded goal by William Tree, who would then follow it up with his second of the game 7 minutes later. A 3 goal third period would have Toronto make the series 3-2. Tree had a great game with 3 points, with St. Clair, Svatos, Junior II, and Tkachuky added 2 points each as well. Ace Lightning had 4 blocked shots and 1 takeaway, and St. Clair had 2 blocked shots and 2 takeaways to have a good two-way game by both. Game 6: 5-3 NEW ![]() The teams would exchange goals in the first period with the Wolfpack coming out with a 3-2 lead. Lacksamus and Tenderloin would extend the lead to 5-2, Louise St. Martin would try to pull Toronto back but New England clinched the series with a 5-3 win. Lacksamus, O'Slapahan, and Beauregard had 2 points each in the series clinching game. O'Slapahan added 6 blocked shots and 2 takeaways to play well at both ends of the ice. Olof Karsikko turned aside 36 shots and had a .920 save percentage Result: 4-2 New England ![]() ![]() ![]() ]
