As the end of the season is quickly approaching, it is time for my final Deep Dive of the season. One thing to remind everyone of the Applied TPE limits for SMJHL players.
  • A SMJHL player may bank TPE beyond 350. They may not apply it to their attributes while they remain on a SMJHL roster.
  • However, if a player is in their 3rd or 4th year in the SMJHL or longer, they may unbank up to 425 TPE.
With those limits in mind, let’s take a look at the Carolina Kraken. You may ask why I chose them, well, I live in North Carolina, so why not?

Centers
  • Alex Ander (alexander81) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 155 out of their earned 179 TPE
  • Johnny Fox (johjeff) was drafted in season 78 and has applied all of their earned 225 TPE.
  • Leighton Oligny (stadacona) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 260 TPE out of their earned 262 TPE.
  • Jamie Fraser (se7en) was drafted in season 76 and has applied 423 TPE out of their earned 689 TPE.
Left Wing
  • Yktrese (Yktrese) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 170 TPE out of their earned 196 TPE.
  • Romeo McCaster (Mr.Lizard) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 160 TPE out of their earned 185 TPE.
  • Lukas Fischer (a_cupof_bread) was drafted in season 76 and has applied 267 TPE out of their earned 268 TPE.
Right Wing
  • Luigi Mario (IcyGas52) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 198 TPE out of their earned 203 TPE.
  • Presley Armstrong (Armstrong614) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 155 TPE out of their earned 189 TPE.
  • Swedish Chef (DrunkenTeddy) was drafted in season 77 and has applied 350 TPE out of their earned 484 TPE.
Left Defender
  • Abbe Wass (NordicNailer) was drafted in season 79 and has applied all of their earned 167 TPE.
  • LiMu Emu (Infld31) was drafted in season 77 and has applied 277 TPE out of their earned 280 TPE.
  • Max Belcher (xjoverax) was drafted in season 76 and has applied 425 TPE out of their earned 696 TPE.
  • Noah Smith (Omij) was drafted in season 75 and has applied 425 TPE out of their earned 535 TPE.
Right Defender
  • Vincent van Gogh (VRapa) was drafted in season 75 and has applied 350 TPE out of their earned 470 TPE.
  • Ongo Gablogian (Ragnar) was drafted in season 75 and has applied 425 TPE out of their earned 881 TPE.
  • Olivija Agate (jacobcarson877) was drafted in season 75 and has applied 425 TPE out of their earned 897 TPE
Goalies
  • Mason Remy (Mason remy) was drafted in season 78 and has applied 181 TPE out of their earned 184 TPE.
  • Stan Free (Mr35) was drafted in season 75 and has applied 391 TPE out of their earned 418 TPE
The rules further state the following roster size expectations:
  • Each team must field a minimum roster of 17 players (skaters and goalies) and a maximum of 20
  • Exactly 2 goalies and 15 skaters dressed.
So with these limits in place, what does the off-season hold for the Carolina Kraken?

They currently have 17 Skaters and 2 Goalies, meaning they are at the minimum for roster size. With that in mind and barring any call-ups, the Kraken are set up very well for next season.

The team is built around the core of Center Jami Fraser; Right Wing Swedish Chef; Left Defender Max Belcher; Left Defender Noah Smith and the trio of Right Defenders: Vincent van Gogh; Ongo Gablogian; Olivija Agate and up-and-coming starting Goalie Stan Free.

With this very solid core of defenders the only real weakness for the Kraken is the depth on the Forward lines. There is a pretty steep drop-off in TPE after the 1st line. The Kraken may find a trade partner that is willing to move higher TPE forwards for a package of draft picks and younger players, or they may decide to continue to add depth in the draft and wait for the group of youngsters that were drafted in season 78 to mature. This group of 8 players will definitely be a force to be reckoned with after another season of progressions.
