Wow what a season the young pups in Maine had! The team rocked out all season finishing first overall with a 48-16-2 record and a goal differential of plus-126. The team was virtually unstoppable this season and was led by not one but two MVP candidates. Let's take a look at some key players that got them this historic season and how that helped when the games really mattered, the playoffs!

Mia Lavoie was the driving offensive force on the ice with a whopping 49 goals. Not only was Mia selfish they were also unselfish by amassing 51 assists for 100 total points on the season. All of this contributed to a whopping plus-47 when on the ice and it will be no surprise if Mia ends up taking home the MVP award.

Edouard Lavoie was right there neck and neck with Mia. However, Edouard led the team and league in points with 101! They did get their points in a slightly different manner by racking up 66 assists and potting 35 pucks into the net. Edouard did lead the forwards on the team with a plus-50 rating and was always in control of the offense whenever on the attack.

Matviy Cajabi went under the radar due to the gruesome twosome of the Lavoie's but make no mistake Cajabi was every bit as dangerous on the ice this season. Cajabi went on to rack up 43 goals which was second on the team and setup his teammates for goals on 50 occasions for 93 total points! Cajabi was not just an offensive force but he was a tone setter with his physical play racking up 149 hits on the ice. This is one of the best two-way players in the SMJHL this season.

Jean-Jacques Franco was the fourth member of the four-horseman or maybe I should say the four-woodsman to keep it on brand with the Maine Timber moniker. In almost any other season you would look at Franco's stats and say they definitely won MVP. That is unlikely this season but Jean was still out of this world with 32 goals, 62 assists, and 94 points in total. How did the Timber have so many players rack up points at will like this? Crazy!

Without getting into every single individual and their performance the real question is, what did all this stat padding get them? Surely they made it to the finals and won the cup, right? How about no! The Maine Timber were cruising right along in the playoffs and things were looking as if they were going to end in a cup ceremony. But wait! Not so fast! Here comes the buzzsaw to chop down that tree in the Ottawa Highlanders! In a shocking turn of events the Ottawa Highlanders came to play and they ousted the high powered Timber by taking the series 4-3. Ottawa came into this series with Ke$ha on repeat and after every victory they would scream "It's Going Down! I'm Yelling Timberrr!" just to throw it in the Timber's face. In this series the offensive force of the Timbers could not find their footing as they only averaged 3.14 goals in the series which was paltry in comparison to their season average.

So what does this epic playoff collapse teach you kids? The regular season never determines the true victor! Anything can happen in the playoffs all you need to do is get into the dance!
