Welcome back to the final matchup of the Season 77 playoffs, the New England Wolfpack versus the Texas Renegades. A little late but better late than never.

These teams have had tough battles throughout these playoffs and now stand as the final competitors in this season's Challenge Cup playoffs.


Challenge Cup Finals
Renegades  Texas Renegades (Central 1st) vs New England Wolfpack (North East 2nd)  Wolfpack

Game 1: 7-4 TEX  Renegades
Texas put on a clinic in this one, outshooting the Wolfpack 50-30 and dominating the faceoff circle winning 61% of draws. New England would score first but a 4 goal run by Texas would give them a firm grip on this game. A hat trick by Chris Valentine would give Texas the win, with Marton Diehm picking up 3 assists. A solid defensive game from David Doug saw him block 6 shots while firing in a goal.
Game 2: 4-2 TEX  Renegades
Texas continued their winning ways in this one, doubling the Wolfpack's shots 52-24 and winning 62% of all faceoffs again. New England potted two power play goals but Texas would go ahead with a goal halfway through the third to take the lead before scoring the empty netter. Hodor had 3 blocked shots and 1 takeaway while putting up a 94 DGR in this match, while Jack McCarthy had  2 assists from the back end to go along with 2 blocked shots. David-Arturri Sonskoi and Lasse Zeigler each tallied 1 goal and 1 assist to win this game. Anthony Dionne was solid with 22 saves and a .920 save percentage to backstop his team to victory.
Game 3: 5-2 NEW  Wolfpack
New England would come out of the gate with some fire behind them, putting up 18 shots in the first period alone and going up 4-1. They would defend the lead nicely and outshoot Texas 42-24 to take the 5-2 win in this one. Seamus O'Slapahan had 2 goals and a crazy 8 blocked shots in this one, with both goals coming at even strength in the first period. Thomas Sawschuk and Nathan Cormier each added 1 goal and 1 assist as the Wolfpack earned their first win of the finals. Olof Karsikko would make 22 stops and post a .920 save percentage.
Game 4: 3-1 TEX  Renegades
A defensive battle in this one would see special teams play an important role, with shots being skewed towards New England 40-33. The teams would exchange power plays throughout the game, with both teams exchanging a power play goal on a combined 8 power play opportunities. Texas would go up 2-0 in the first before extending the lead to 3-0 in the second period, with New England answering back late in the second. Pawter Meowski was solid in this one and picked up 1 goal and 1 assist as well as 1 takeaway to be the only Renegade with a multi point game.  Anthony Dionne would get the win for Texas, putting up an incredible .980 save percentage and stopping 39 shots to earn a 3-1 series lead for the Renegades.
Game 5: 4-3 NEW  Wolfpack
Texas would dominate this game but Olof Karsikko would steal the win for the Wolfpack. Texas would outshoot the Wolfpack 48-29 and have 7 power play opportunities but would only bury 1 power play goal while New England would score 2 shorthanded goals on them. Karsikko would put up 45 saves and a .940 save percentage in order to get the win and keep New England alive in this series. Thomas Sawschuk would bury 2 goals with 1 coming shorthanded and the other standing as the game winner. Bruno Tooyo, Pork Tenderloin, and Antoine Beauregard each put on a penalty killing clinic, playing 7+ minutes on the penalty kill and Tooyo even tallied a shorthanded goal. The Wolfpack stay alive and force a game 6 after a hard fought win.
Game 6: 5-4 NEW  Wolfpack
Another tightly contested game, shots were pretty even at 41-37 in favour of Texas, they would take a 3-1 lead in the second period but 2 goals from Nathan Cormier would tie it late in the second for New England. A shorthanded goal by Lasse Zeigler would put Texas in the lead 5 minutes into the third period, but Lily Jin Morrow would tie it up again at 13:36 of the third. Just 8 seconds later Bruno Tooyo would catch the Renegades by surprise and give New England the lead and the eventual win in order to force a game 7 after being down 3-1. Olof Karsikko had 37 saves and a .900 save percentage in this one. A big game by Antoine Beauregard had him put up 3 assists while laying 7 hits and a solid 3 takeaways. Nathan Cormier had a huge game, scoring 2 goals to get New England back into this one.
Game 7: 6-3 NEW  Wolfpack
Game 7 was a tightly contested matchup, with both teams being even on shots and power play goals. New England would take the lead 2-1 in the first period and extend it to 3-1 early in the second period. After a goal from Texas's Chris Valentine in the late second period, Jaxson Reaper would score to regain a two goal lead for New England with just 2 seconds left in the second period. Bruno Tooyo scored a shorthanded marker just a minute into the third period and after a goal by Zeigler on that power play it would make it 5-3 in favour of New England, Lacksamus would bury the dagger to make it out of reach for Texas. Bruno Tooyo and Nathan Cormier kept up their phenomenal play that they have had in the Finals, each tallying 3 points. Cormier had 3 assists and 5 hits, while Tooyo had 2 goals and 1 assist with 3 hits. A strong defensive game from Seamus O'Slapahan saw him put up 1 assist and a phenomenal 9 blocked shots and 1 takeaway. New England pulls off the 3-1 comeback in the series to win the Challenge Cup after a tight battle with the Renegades throughout this 7 game matchup.

Result: 4-3 New England  Wolfpack

Congratulations to the New England Wolfpack! A hard road through the playoffs, they managed to battle through some of the best teams in the league and win the cup this season.
