Let's face it, no one likes being last place in anything. Unless you're blatantly tanking for the first overall pick, losing a lot hurts. In the SHL there is a section in the awards predictions for the team with the least points on the season, however I cannot remember for the life of me what the award is called or if it is even called anything. So in my first Deep Dive for Darby Reznor's career, I thought it would be fun to look at a few of the last place finishes in the standings for the SHL and look at their stats. Without any further ado let's begin:

First things first, let's look at last season, where the Season 77 Montreal Patriotes had an abysmal 7 wins to 56 wins regular time losses and only 3 overtime losses for a total winning percentage of a whole 4% rounded down and 17 points overall. They had 177 goals for to 389 goals against for a difference of 212, and they did not win a single game on the road, being 0-31-2 away from home. The main goalie B Jobin had only 4 wins to 49 losses and one overtime loss, with a save percentage of 0.869% and a GAA of 6.26. This is his 12th season in the SHL too, so that's rough. Thier top points scorer was Xavier Beausoleil who has 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points total and a plus/minus of -84.

Onto the season before that where we find the season 76 Seattle Argonauts who fared slightly better with 11 wins to 53 regular time losses and 2 overtime losses for a winning percentage of 6 percent rounded down and 24 points overall. They had 141 goals for and 323 goals for a difference of -182 and only won 4 games on the road. Thier main goalie Willie Miller had 8 wins to 41 losses and 2 overtime losses and a save percentage of 0.899% and a GAA of 4.62. Those top points scorer Rence Sykut had 17 goals and 38 assists for a total of 55 points and a save percentage of -54. But hey, they did have a goalie named Sith Happens so it wasn't all bad!

The last team we'll look at today is the Season 75 Montreal Patriotes who had a grand total of one win with 64 losses and only 1 overtime loss for winning percentage of 0.66 and only 3 points! They had 139 goals for and 544 goals against for a goal difference of 405, and keep in mind the next team above them in the Seattle Argonauts (I'm sensing a pattern) had a goal differential of -264. The only win Montreal had was at home, and their main goalie James Lao had 1 win and 50 regular time losses and only 1 overtime loss. He also had a terrible GAA of 8.5 and a save percentage of 0.865%. Their top points scorer Damien Hirano had 23 goals and 26 assists for a points total of 48 and a plus/minus of -119, and that wasn't even the worst plus/minus because Damien Hirano had -141.

So what can I say in conclusion? Well for one, sometimes you have to suffer through being the worst until you cam become the best at something. I'm pretty for the most part every team has suffered through a season similar to this, and I have faith that Seattle and Montreal can eventually figure it out. But for Montreal, it might take a while. Keep your chin up, it's the nature of the thing.
