This deep dive will be taking a look at all the players that currently have 200 or more TPE selected in the fourth round of this SMJHL draft. The fourth round is always full of surprises. Sometimes the picks don't work out but sometimes you can find a player that can shine under the right management and team. This year's fourth round boasted a variety of players; a mix of forwards, defenders, and goalies from all across the world. The below will provide a small insight into how their rookie seasons are going after 50 games.
49: San Diego Tidal - Bernard Kochese Kochese has been having an impressive first season with the Tidal, totaling 18 goals and 13 assists in 50 games. Although San Diego is firmly at the bottom of the SMJHL standings, Kochese is getting the opportunity on the first line to gain experience and further develop. With 220 TPE so far, San Diego should be very happy with having found a potential first-line winger this far in the draft. 50: St. Louis Scarecrows - Max Kagan Kagan was an exceptional find for the Scarecrows at pick #50. He currently leads his team with 117 blocked shots in his rookie campaign and is providing exceptional defense on the second unit and penalty kill. He has also contributed with 6 goals and 9 assists, with 2 game-winning goals to his resume. Kagan is currently at 221 TPE and his solid rookie season could propel him into becoming a top-line defenseman for the Scarecrows as early as next season. 51: Maine Timber (via ANC) - Zsigmond Popovics The Hungarian goalie has provided the first-place Maine Timber with some exceptional play in his first season. Popovics is 15-3-2 in 21 games, with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. His rebound control and positioning are what stick out when you watch him play. The Timber will have no complaints with this pick as Popovics has a chance to learn behind Kris and step into the starter crease shortly. 53: Newfoundland Berserkers - Big Sweg The 6'11, 300-pound defenseman is one of the steals of this draft. He currently has 7 goals and 16 assists in 49 games and has shown to be a well-balanced player, even at his immense size. There are no glaring weaknesses to his game and with 252 TPE so far, he is quickly moving up amongst the defender rankings. The Berserkers will be very happy with this selection. 54: Carolina Kraken - Vladimir Bar-down III Vladimir Bar-Down III is quietly having one of the better rookie seasons for a rebuilding Kraken team. He currently has 14 goals and 16 assists in 49 games and is also leading his team in hits with 98. With the Kraken having a ton of picks in this draft, getting an active and productive forward like Vladimir is a true win for the franchise. 55: Kelowna Knights - Jon-Isaac Forty-One The Kelowna Knights hit a home run by taking Jon-Isaac Forty-One at pick #55. He is currently 5-9-0 in 17 games with a 3.38 goals-against average and a .880% save percentage. He is among the top earners of this year's draft class and he will surely see himself going much higher in the SHL draft. It's safe to say Kelowna won't have to worry about the goaltending position for a few seasons. 56: Great Falls Grizzlies - Oatmeal Josephsdóttir Oatmeal Josephsdóttir is a fascinating prospect out of Iceland. The purely offensive talent hasn't gotten the most game time this season but is progressing well in his first year with 8 goals and 10 assists in 49 games. Management will surely look to help improve his defensive and physical attributes as he works his way into the league. 57: Quebec City Citadelles - Ela Solberg After selecting a goalie in the third round, Quebec City also took Ela Solberg in the 4th round. Solberg is having an impressive rookie campaign with a 14-16-1 record in 32 games, 3.64 goals against average, and a .898% save percentage. Quebec City is looking very strong with two active and improving goalies for the future and Ela can blossom into one of the best goalies in the SMJHL. 58: Carolina Kraken (via COL) - Jérémy Louchard With their second pick in the fourth round, the Kraken selected Jeremy Louchard from Quebec and once again landed a potential first-line winger. Louchard has 11 goals and 20 assists in 49 games and has shown immense potential in limited minutes. Although he is short in size, he plays extremely fast and has a wicked shot, which he is not afraid to unleash. Louchard gives Carolina the chance to boast two elite wingers with Vladimir Bar-Down III if they can keep progressing on their current trajectory. [734 words without titles]
