Deep Dive #2: Ottawa, Their Maine Nemesis

When looking for the topic for my second Deep Dive, I again looked at who could possibly beat the Maine Timber. There were two teams that scored one win all season against Maine. Five different teams were able to be the Timber twice. But only one team came out on top three different times when facing the Maine Timber.
This is the same team that upset the Timber in the post season last season. The Ottawa Highlanders. The two teams split the season series 3-3; the only team Maine did not have a winning record against. The two teams began the season against each other on October 4, 2044. A tough loss for Ottawa as the Timber overcame an early 3-1 deficit to pull out a 4-3 win. The Highlanders scored all three of their goals in the first period before Timber goalie Kris stuffed them the rest of the game. Maine got second period goals from Anthony Louchard, Deth Klaw and Doug Weight to complete the come-from-behind win. All seven goals scored in that game were scored by seven different skaters. On October 21, 2044, Maine exploded for 5 goals in the third period to take down the Highlanders 5-1. Bishop Van Apeldoom shut the Timber out for over 44 minutes before everything came apart. Anthony Louchard scored two goals and Anna Skovgaard, Stavros Kondos and Darby Reznor each had a goal for the Timber. The Timber attack saw 57 shots on goal taken. Ottawa's first win against Maine came on November 21, 2044. A sound 5-1 thrashing that saw Easton Schaffer score three goals. Clarence Worley and Hockey Player also added a goal each. Hockey Player was credited with an assist on all three Schaffer goals. Maine once again outshot the Highlanders (41-34) but Bishop Van Apeldoom wasn't having it this game. The next time these two teams played was on December 8, 2044. The Highlanders put up 8 goals to double up Maine 8-4. Spaceman Spiff scored four ... that's right 4 ... goals. The first period was wild as the Highlanders went up 2-0, fell behind 3-2 and then tied the game 3-3 before the first 20 minutes were up. In the second period, Spiff scored twice and Peyton Campeau once as the Highlanders pulled away. In a rare moment in the season, the Highlanders actually outshot the Timber 46-44. Ottawa's win streak against Maine reached three games on New Year's Day, 2045. Easton Shaffer and Pique Boo each scored two goals as the Highlanders came out on top 5-3. Again, the Highlanders outshot the Timber, this time 36-32. Maine avoided having a losing record against Ottawa with a resounding 6-2 victory on January 12, 2045. The Timber outshot the Highlanders 53-14 in a complete domination on the ice. Pique Boo scored two goals in the first period for Ottawa before everything went TIMBER! Four different Maine skaters scored a goal in the second and then Valtteri Pulkkinen scored twice in the third to put the game away. The home teams won all six games of the season series.
