New STL Award names, and awarding those names.

I wrote this post while listening to Pompeii MMXXIII by Bastille, and it magnified the emotional impact ten-fold, so you should listen to it while reading this for the maximum experience.
Trust me.

*At a press conference in the Connie Eaves Memorial Building, the headquarters of the St. Louis Scarecrows, still new GM KyIe Murray steps up to the podium to announce something big for the team*

So the time has finally come. After three seasons of running the Scarecrows, I have finally opened up awards for my team.With the opening back up of team awards will also come a major change with said awards. Some of you are going to ask me why I am choosing new names, as opposed to keeping a lot of the old names for the awards. I know some will likely say that I am trying to mold and change the Scarecrow image to something I want, and quite frankly, that is exactly what I am doing. When I came into this job, this team simply had no direction. Sure they had just won a cup a few seasons prior, but they had no draft stock, and no prospects coming through, no solid coaching core. With some serious work from myself and the people I have surrounded myself with, the coaching staff, and the players, we have managed to correct the course of the team and we are headed towards a seriously bright future. With that being said, the major announcement for this press conference is that I will be renaming our team awards. Now without further ado…

The Jack Booth Award
Jack Booth shattered a record that many thought untouchable, with his incredible defensive ability and his relentless work ethic, he has set a new standard for defensive excellence, being our defensive bulwark from the second he first stepped on the ice. Averaging an insane 243 blocks a season, he was able to take over the lead for total career blocks in the ENTIRE J. He also led our team in takeaways across his four seasons with us with 235. These accomplishments are not just a testament to his skill on the ice, or his efforts off the ice, but rather to his relentless pursuit of greatness.Jacks achievements are a source of immense pride for us in St. Louis, and I could not be more proud of naming our Defenseman of the Year award after him.
@ItsBooth

The Scar Bealey Award
"Scar Bealey is the next player to get an award named after themselves. Scar has consistently scored goals and gotten assists when we need them across his entire time playing for the team, and when I think of a player who consistently elevates their game and takes every chance they can with the puck and turns it into a scoring opportunity, I think of Scar Bealey. He always brings it, always being a leader on the forward line, and his ability to be a reliable outlet for plays, or take advantage of power plays, take the pressure off the rest of the forwards, freeing them to play how they want to play. Ultimately, this was one of the hardest awards to pick a winner for, though, with many forwards bringing it this season, but I decided to go with Scar both because of these reasons, and also because it just felt right to honor someone so devoted to the Crows that he wanted to come back here even when the team was at its worst, and undergoing major changes." @JKortesi81
The Nathan Abel Award

This award was one of my favorite awards to create, and it was actually the first one I knew I would create because Nathan made it so easy to choose him for this award. It would not make any sense for this award to go to anyone else but him. Nathan was figuratively and literally the two-way man of St. Louis, having spent a season in the defensive lines, despite being a forward, and yet still excelled. And when we asked him to switch back to being a forward, it is as if he kept all of his defensive effort, all while gaining new offensive effort. He led our team in even strength goals, while also being the highest blocking forward, setting the bar for a forward that is willing to sacrifice his body on one play, and then turn around and be an offensive threat immediately afterwards. His ability to efficiently balance both offense and defense without having to sacrifice one for the other is why I am more than proud to name our Two-Way Player of the year award after Nathan. @DeThePyro

The Mammoth of an Award
So now the funny thing about this award is that I have no idea if this is ever going to be a consistent thing. I don't know the criteria at which this award is even being given for. This is also actually the last award that's being written. At the time of writing this I have already finished the awards, including the two below this one, and I am really only writing it because I am being threatened and I know I will never hear the end of it if I don’t write it because what will happen is the user this award is for will say I hate them and then will leave the ST. Louis server and everyone in there will get mad at me, which I just can not have. All jokes aside though this award is really just a shoutout to Kahri, who alongside myself, Cake, and many other guests and players on St. Louis, really helped inject some life into the ghost town that was the St. Louis discord server after I took over. She has a contagious energy that helped keep the entirety of the public area in St. Louis active and I am grateful for that.
@kahri

The Louis Belanger Award

So this award is more of an out of character award. This award I wanted to create to recognize all the hard work Popol has put in for us in St. Louis, and the users who follow in his steps after his player leaves. While achievements and records are of course worth noting in this league, it is Popols qualities of selflessness and an outstanding work ethic that truly set him apart. Whether it is scouting an entire draft class almost entirely on his own, helping an entirely different J team with their draft, or allowing his player to be bumped from the first line to fit a strategy we had, he kept a positive attitude, and stayed ready to take on anything we set him on. Popol, you have shown all of us across the entire league the true meaning of commitment and generosity. I could not be more proud to name this award after you, and I want you to know how much your contributions have impacted not only St. Louis, but the entire community we have here. I am thrilled to present the The Louis Belanger Award, the award for most dedicated and hardworking member of the St. Louis Scarecrows, to Popol. @Popol

I think what speaks louder than anything is that I know how valuable he is to this community” - ThePyroAlpaca

The thing I love most about Popol is he truly sees the best in everyone he talks to. Does so much to build friendships with people. Has allowed me to complain in his dms about stupid things and with zero judgment. And overall just a pleasure to be around.” - Kahri

He helped me out when he didn't have to with a draft and was a blast to work with, a big LR contributor in STL from what I've seen and yeah all around gem” - Seany

 “I loved scouting him and was very unhappy I didn't end up with him” -Sve7en

“Popcorn has an amazing excitement and enthusiasm. Eager to help and I love that.”- Badwolf

And now, some of you here in attendance may have started noticing that a certain name has been left off this list, thinking to yourself “certainly she has to get an award right?”. And you are most certainly correct. It is my absolute esteemed honor to present you with…

The Alexa Johansen Award
This award has been a long time coming and I have been wanting to write this for months, and funny enough, I almost did not even get the chance to write it. I made this award to honor a user whose impact transcends what their player does on the ice. I want to acknowledge the fact that from the second she joined the team, I knew she was destined for more than being just a good earner. Her players outstanding performance and skills on the ice are nothing short of great, but it's her leadership, her character, and her unshakable commitment that truly sets her apart. She has become a shining example of what it means to lead by example here in St. Louis, and across the league. Her positive influence now stretches far beyond St. Louis, and into all areas of the league. Not to discount her ability to earn and have a great player of course, but what makes her special is her ability to bring out the absolute best in everyone around her. She understands that leadership is about elevating those around her, and leading with both heart and humility. She is a source of motivation, encouragement, and support for everyone, even including myself. Cake, your contributions to this franchise go beyond what can be measured in goals and assists. You have become the very embodiment of leadership, dedication, and excellence. Your commitment to St. Louis and to the SHL as a whole sets a precedent for future users and is a testament of your character. As I honor you, Cake, with the award that exemplifies exactly what I want it to mean to be a St. Louis Scarecrow, I want you to know we all acknowledge not just your on-ice achievements, but the profound impact you have had on not just me or the team, but the entire league. You are the heart and soul of the St. Louis Scarecrows, and I am so incredibly grateful for your dedication, and your inspiring leadership. @cake307
“Cake is nice, love cake cake is great” -reno
“Cake is fantastic, both onsite and on off. Put simply, if you need help with anything she’s your girl.” - Ara

That is all today, thank you folks for coming, and I look forward to seeing you all next season.
