In this deep dive, I, Rookyi ,will analyze the franchise of the Kelowna Knights as a whole. I will talk about some historic facts about the team, players that marked their era, periods of success, the state of the franchise as of now and what we could expect from them in some years. This text will be divided into three sections which goes as follow:

- The past
- The present
- The future

Part one: The past (a bit of history)

Kelowna was one of the original 6 teams in the SMJHL, they shocked the entire hockey world by winning their first four star cup in season 11, after they had finished with the worst record in the league(10-27-3), but they remained focused which led to this achievement from Kelwona players. This dedication is what made the Kelowna players so different, even today, this hustle is still present for many players. Many players stood up for that team, but unfortunately, the stats of those players are unfindable, which solidifies the legend around those forgotten knights that were so important for the history of the franchise as they were the first ones to win the coveted 4 star cup in the history of the Kelwona Knights. Some players in the like of Ekaterina Valieva who got 81 points with 49 assists(franchise record) and 32 goals marked their era as dominant offensive players in season 69. On the defensive side we have defensemen Rikaad Metzllr also from season 69, he blocked a franchise high 194 shots in one season!

Part two: The current state of the franchise

Kelowna is currently an interesting team. They are in a rebuild since their last great playoff run of season 63, where they lost the series to the Great Falls Grizzlies in 6 games. Their last draft (S80 SMJHL draft) could well be a gamechanger as they drafted some interesting players in the likes of David Corrigan (currently tied in scoring with 5 points), Levi Bedrock, Khalfani, Cutter Gauthier (He could really pan out as an elite goal scorer) and Jordan Lafrenière who struggles a bit in this new season but could get adapted very soon to his new environment. I do not think that this season will be the one for them yet, I could see them as playoffs contenders next season. Also, they could surprise me this year as their rookies have a real hunger for improvement and do everything possible to become valuable players in their conquest for victory!

Part three: The future

This Kelowna team is full of unpollished diamonds. One of them was already pollished tho: David Corrigan. This SMJHL rookie is the uncontested leader ,as it stands, for the rookie of the year award. He has shown great offensive upsides leading his team in points with 21 points in 12 games!(7 goals, 14 assists). Other players such as Mel Guolla that recorded 20 points in 12 games so far will be interesting to watch. Some promising players like Jordan Lafrenière have been up to a slow slow start being a great playmaker, nevertheless , his point scoring has been ok so far with 9 points in 12 games. He is also a great leader on and off the ice as he helps everybody when they have questions and is very active, it is one of the reasons he is an assistant captain. This team will surely be one of the most fun team to watch in the next 4 seasons as their young core will continue to develop in the following seasons and could really pretend to a 4 star cup in this window. They also went all in on offensive prospects in the most recent draft, howerver, they could lack some defensmen in the future. But they could well take the SMJHL by storm as an offensive wagon in the future.

Conclusion:

Kelowna is a team full of history(one of the origninal 6 team) that won a cup in season 11 but couldn’t put the hand on a 4 star cup since their heart breaking loss in the finals of season 63. They have a great future in front of them and some players that could be offensive dynamos as they went all in on forward in the most recent draft and they got many studs with this technique! Congrats to the gms on this one! Many players have also marked their era with the team and some are looking to write history (David Corrigan :D ). This team will be a joy to watch.

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”
