Write your predictions for this year's IIHF tournament or WJC! Tell me
about your team! What are your expectations for your player? What teams
are you watching out for this time around? Did last season's results
surprise you and how much do you expect them to change this time?
For Switzerland, last season was a rough one in the IIHF tournament. We've retooled a bit, with some younger players coming through and taking strides and some nice transfers to help make things a bit better. I think we'll still have to fight for positioning, but it won't be as bad as last season. At least I hope it won't be. (61 words)

Looks like [TEAM] won Season 81 Challenge Cup! So who won and why? What
could the other team have done differently to change the result? What
was your favorite part of the series?
San Francisco ultimately pulled off the three-peat, with a six game triumph over Tampa Bay. The Cuda had their opportunities in this series. In Game 1, they gave up the game winner with 1:42 to go in the game, so they were not far away from taking it to OT. And in Game 4, they outplayed the Pride pretty significantly in the shot count. However, right after Tampa scored a game-opening shorty, San Francisco immediately equalized with a power play goal and rode a Justin Time legacy game the rest of the way. In Game 5, Tampa Bay came oh so close to overturning a 4-0 deficit, but San Francisco added an empty netter to hold on, and penalty trouble doomed the Barracuda in the end. This series was very very competitive, with fine margins. But in the end, the devil's in the details. San Francisco had those details ironed down, and used their championship experience to take home their third Cup in a row. Given some of the rumblings out of that camp, it's going to be the end of an era this offseason, and what an era it was, capped off by one final, well-earned Challenge Cup. (203 words)

13. Team Rhine will travel to the WJC with a pretty formidable roster. There are 11 players with 3 or 4 seasons of SMJHL experience under their belt and most of them are capped or almost capped in terms of TPE. On top of that, there is a good number of promising young players who can't wait to show the world and the SHL what they are capable of. Looking at the goalies, we have the great Katharina Rosenthal, who already moved up to the SHL's Winnipeg Aurora, and Jon-Isaac Forty-One, who had a remarkable playoff run with his Knights. On defense we have maybe the best defensive D in the SMJHL in Dieter Frühstück, Whalers stud Pavel Mintyukov and the Citadelles duo of Holl and Bindewald, both looking back at three very successful seasons. If that's not enough, there is also the French quartett of Quiroule, Mathematique, Guacamoleh and Frappe to round out the defense corps. The forward group will be lead by Normand Marineau, who was first in regular season points for his Raptors, another Knight with a very strong season in Dirk Dienhart and Swiss allrounder Dejana Kaptina, a specialist when it comes to clutch performances in the playoffs. But maybe it's one of the other forwards who will make his mark and be the surprise hero for Team Rhine. In any case, the team is ready, confident and looking forward to a hopefully successful WJC. 15. Tampa Bay didn't manage to carry the momentum from game 3 into the rest of the series. After turning the game around in the last period of that game and going into game 4 with a lead, another win could have already swung the series clearly in their favor. But after letting in five in consecutive games, Justin Time had an mvp performance, stoping 42 shots and turning the series even. That game switched the momentum again and San Francisco never looked back. Tampa Bay gave it a good go, but the experience and winning mentality of the Pride was once again too much to overcome. Expansion is both an exciting and terrifying time. New branding, new GMs, and new teams forged from the pickings of others can draw attention to the league but potentially cause chaos in the older teams. I expect every team to be hit in a key spot causing them all to lose a step in their planned trajectory. Perennial contenders like San Francisco, Tampa Bay, or Atlanta should continue at the top but could start their decline earlier than expected. Rising teams like Calgary, Montreal, or Seattle could see their rise cut short and rebuilding teams like Minnesota, Edmonton, and Winnipeg could see that rebuild derailed before it really gets off the ground. It will all come down to the GMs and their ability to choose the right players to protect. The chosen expansion GMs are all experienced and savvy. They won't miss their chance if a team leaves a quality player available. In theory every team will be hit with a similar loss but they results of seasons 83 through 86 will show which ones were able prove their GM skills. The expansion teams won't likely be in contention in season 83 but I suspect they all will push deep into the playoffs by the end of the 80s.

Spaceman Spiff joined Quebec last season during his last season in juniors. As expected of a kid playing against veterans, it did not go well for Spiff scoring only 5 assists in the tournament. This season I expect a moderate improvement for Spiff, maybe even scoring a goal this time around! Quebec is a newly added nation with a young but improving roster. Last IIHF they went 4-0-6, finishing 5th in their conference and just outside of the elimination round. A surprising result for the young team, and I expect Quebec to end in around the same position. With a little luck they could see the playoff round but with the strength of some of the other nations they have no real chance to win. I expect Canada and Finland to fight for gold, with France, Lativa, and Japan with the best chances to knock them out. Norway and United States round out the top contenders with the rest of the field on the outside looking in.

10. Written, 50 to 200+ words. What do they do different?
I think there's a lot that separates TBB and especially SFP from other teams. First off you need to nail your draft picks; swinging & missing on high picks will devastate rebuilding teams and only make the process longer. Secondly, stay active and aggressive during free agency during your window. This is something both TBB and SFP have been doing for several seasons now. Lastly, and most importantly, you need to dedicate to a rebuild & execute hard in a short window. For example, stack all of your picks during a rebuild in a 2 or 3 season span, and then scout like mad to nail each pick. And of course, extensive knowledge of FHM will always help, but most GM's have that anyway.
