When wandering through the deep, remote regions of Sweden one citizen from the basically unknown town of Skellefteå had no idea what she had uncovered. Some form of absurdly large, mutant egg just out in the middle of the woods that seemed lost and abandoned. No parentage to claim it, no person to watch over it. She couldn’t just leave it there in the cold of the wilderness afterall. What would happen to the baby? Well, it turns out that when a Penguin and a Moose love each other very much, the mythological Taweret descends from the heavens and delivers an egg to the happy parents. Unfortunately on this particular day, Taweret had a bad day at work and dropped the egg on her way to visit two very well known SHL players. Adelie de Pengu and Melvin Majestic-Moose. Instead of fixing the problem, she left the two clueless she was ever coming! That’s why it was such a shock when the egg hatched and some weird hybrid of moose and penguin came rolling out. Half moose, half penguin, all second generation elite hockey player. Which half is which? Nobody really knows because the mooseguin has remained a myth,
Being from a small village, the mooseguin was able to stay a secret and became an urban myth in the region. Nobody outside of his adoptive mother ever really got a good look at him and people whispered, but nobody knew. Even as he took an interest in playing hockey with the other children when he slipped out in secret, a weird phenomenon happened where the children could remember playing the game, but never quite remember what the mythological mooseguin looked like.
As he got better and better at hockey though, his adoptive mother knew she couldn’t keep him secret forever. She would have to let her little mooseguin fly and she wasn’t sure how to even begin introducing him to the world. Fortunately she wouldn’t have to do it on her own. Rumors of the existence of this being became substantial enough that scouts from the SHL began to investigate. After all they tend to find people and creatures from all walks of life and in the weirdest places. Unfortunately for him, one of his parents was murdered by brain parasites and the other went missing as he returned to his people after retiring from the SHL. So as scouts discovered the creature, they contacted some close friends of Adelie and Melvin’s in the Soderberg-Snooks clan. They were eager to take in the mooseguin and even finally give him a name to honor their lost friends.
Melvin de Pengu Soderberg-Snooks took to hockey like a fish to water as the family began to train him up in his favorite hobby. It was still the weirdest thing though as more and more people became aware of young Melvin and he became more popular both inside SHL circles and amongst the public, but nobody could quite remember what he looked like. What half was penguin? What half was moose? Was he a collective hallucination? Each person seemed to remember him differently and it became somewhat of a fascination for people world wide. There was a new hockey phenom and while nobody could get an exact image of him in their mind, he was definitely rising through the ranks.
With him finally getting trained up enough though, it was time for him to be released upon the world and so while a little late to declare compared to most other prospects, Melvin de Pengu Soderberg-Snooks has declared himself eligible for the SMJHL draft so that he can work his way into the SHL and follow in his parents footsteps even if he never got to know them. The only question for the executives in the SHL would be is the mooseguin real? Or is he just some cultural phenomenon that everyone talks about but doesn’t actually exist?
