Luffy Richard here, working hard to earn my keep by bringing you another Simulation Hockey League spotlight. This time I am chatting about the Edmonton Blizzard who have nothing to do with the Ozzy Osbourne album, ‘Blizzard of Ozz,’ an album I never listened to because Dio is better. I said what I said, and I said it with my full chest! Or written it in ink so it's permanent. Whatever, you get my meaning.
The Edmonton Blizzard finished the season fifth in the league with a record of 39-22-5 for eighty-three points. A very respectable record, and they look like a team ready to do some damage in the playoffs where they have gone up two to nothing, as of this writing, against the Los Angeles Panthers. The Edmonton Blizzard scored three hundred and four goals, good for second, this season while only allowing two hundred and thirty-two, good for sixth, for a very respectable goal differential of plus-seventy-two. Don’t check my math on that. You just have to trust me. Their power play was clicking at 17.5% which put them tied for sixth in the league. Their penalty kill was stopping power plays at 84.5% which was good for tenth, so that is a part of the game they will want to do better as they fight for a Challenger Cup. Honestly just looking at those core stats Edmonton is a team that puts a lot of bread in the basket, and is no slouch defensively, but their high tempo attack leaves room for teams to counter attack them. The team was led in points by Gwendolyn Telenn who had eighty-five points (thirty-eight goals, forty-seven assists); in goals Dominik Winters with forty-two, and assists by Logan Webb who had fifty-two. Winters and Webb led the first line for the Blizzard while Telenn was the glue for the second. It is hard to beat a one-two wombo-combo like that. I do not envy the Panthers in their quest to turn the series around. The Blizzard are an exciting team that on paper look like a contender. They are already up in their first round series and are hoping to regain the Challenger Cup for the first time since season seventy-three. This has been Luffy Richard and I hope you enjoyed this spotlight of a very exciting team. I hope to see you all again during the next round of spotlights. Until then, Luffy out! ![]() |
