Questions with Saku Perhonen Kelowna Knights prospect camp
#1

After Darian had his first visit with the Kelowna knight back a few weeks ago when he had first visited this organization (link to the other interview with Saku Perhonen: http://theshl.b1.jcink.com/index.php?showtopic=1571) and their facilities he wanted to make one last trip before the draft. Darian attend his final prospect camp in preparations for the upcoming draft on Thursday. He was invited to take part in a prospect camp in Kelowna, British Columbia run by the Kelowna knights. Darian had a chance to run a few drills with the coaching staff of the knights as their scouts and general managers assessed his strengths and weaknesses and his skill set.

Darian had really enjoyed the visit and seems to be taking a lot of interest into the knight’s organization. He has stated that” this is a great organization that has a t coaching staff I want to play for and good overall plan for success. This is a team I want to be a part of.” Darian had time to have take part in an interview with knight’s co general manager Saku Perhonen. He wanted to learn a bit more about this franchise and had a few questions for one of the knioghts gm.here is what they had to say:

Darian Scherbluk: What kind of team are you look to build this year through the draft?

Saku Perhonen: As per usual, we usually use the draft strategy of picking the best player in our mind that is on the board and take our team drafting strategy from our top two picks.

DarianScherbluk : What makes the Kelowna Knights franchise so great and better the most other hockey organizations.

Saku Perhonen: You have what is one of the best GM duos in the league, with a great development staff and we are the scouts for the Vancouver Nightmare so by just being on the team you are directly influencing your draft stock with an SHL team.

Darian Scherbluk: What is your main goal coming into this season?

Saku Perhonen: Just like every other season our goal is to win the cup. I think it is like this for every team though.

Darian Scherbluk: Ok next question explain to me and to the other rookie this season what is the history behind the Kelowna Knights?

Saku Perhonen: The Kelowna Knights have had tons of success in the past years and are tied for most cups in NWJHL history.

Darian Scherbluk: If there was one other team (not including the knights) that you think would be a great place to play in the NWJHL where would it be and why?

Saku Perhonen: So many places I could name, Firebirds, since we have such a great rivalry with them in recent year, they have excellent GMs, Impact, shutout should be a good GM and can't say enough about Lange and just so many more places.

Darian Scherbluk: Ok now to my final question why did you want to become one of the gm’s for the Knights?

Saku Perhonen: Well I was the Captain for the Knights at the time and the fans were great, I loved playing in this city and just wanted to give back to everybody who cheered for me throughout my career. They voted me to captain, the All-Star game, they voted me for the Alex Olvera trophy and they supported me throughout my career and it just meant so much to me that I had to give back.

Darian Scherbluk: Ok thank you for your time Saku and see you in a few days at the NWJHL draft.

After this one day camp Darian spent a bit of time around the area Kelowna-Vancouver. He went to go see a Canucks game where they played against the Maple Leafs, went skiing on the Whilster Mountains and also visited the 2010 winter Olympic village. It seems like Darian is really enjoying the beauties of British Columbia and said he could see himself living here. Darian Scherbluk says that he has put the Kelowna Knights in his top three teams he hopes to get drafted by on Thursday
