Grimm Sits Down with SMJHL Network.

Here at the SMJHL Network we have provided around the clock coverage of the SMJHL Prospects Showcase. From the amazing performances by top flight prospects such as Matej Stransky or George Costanza, the tournament has had phenomenal performances. Chara Brojled has been quite a surprise with his 11 point performance in the round robin. One of the shinier points of the tournament so far has been the goaltending of Swiss net minder, Gustav Grimm. Grimm posted a 4-4 record in the round robin but lead all goaltenders in the goals against average and save percentage. Grimm’s two shutouts were the talk of the scouting circles as he’s shown his ability to put on jaw-dropping performances.

Yesterday’s elimination round games is where the news in the league ran rampant. The Outlaws faced off against the Lions and the Lions prevailed. Grimm’s team, the Battalion faced off against the Blazers as they faced each other already 4 times in the tournament. The Battalion led behind a goal from Braidy, Gustav Grimm shut the door and posted his third shutout in the showcase. The 21 save shutout caught the eye of the SMJHL Network and we caught up with Grimm after the game.

SMJHL Network: Gustav, you helped lead your team to the Showcase championship, how good do you feel about draft standing?

Gustav Grimm: Well I definitely have shown what I’m capable of doing in this league but really I’m more focused on getting the showcase championship. I like to take things one step at a time and I’m not worried where I’ll go at the draft, I know I’ll get taken but doesn’t matter if I’m 1st round or 3rd.

SMJHL Network: You’re playing your first games ever in North America, how have you been dealing with the rink size and how have you combat the problems most goalies have?

Gustav Grimm: I just try not to worry about those little things really. I think if you’re too focused on the little stuff you can’t control then your mind isn’t in the right spot. I’m focused on stopping shot, winning games and being a champion.

SMJHL Network: Are there any teams your most interested in at this point?

Gustav Grimm: At this point I want any team that will allow me to be a starting goalie and build through the season. Every team in the SMJHL is going to be strong; it’s just the level of play so it comes down to the GMs and how open to being patient and allowing their players just grow in the league is the team I’m most interested in playing for.

SMJHL Network: Thank you very much Gustav and good luck in the championship game and in the draft.

Gustav Grimm: Thank you for having me.
