Oh The Calamity Of It All Merica At It Again
#1

If you haven’t heard of the Seattle Riot’s Daniel Merica, than you have been living in a shell. Yes, usually if you hear his name in the media, it’s not for praise, it’s either Merica glorifying himself or the ever-negative media trashing him for one reason or another, and most of the times it’s warranted. On the ice he has been a consistent disappointment, at least his first two years in the SHL. You could go as far as blaming him for the Riot missing the playoffs last year.

This season, however, has been a slightly different story for the very arrogant, embattled young American. Paired with legend in the making Chris McZehrl, Merica has seen his numbers rise and put up 20 points in 32 games this season, including three game-winners, while being +6. This is great news for the Riot, who made it clear when they drafted him that he was their future, which was made known by his lucrative eight-year contract, which he followed up with a piss-poor season that saw him put up less than 15 points. It was so few that I don’t even remember how many he had, maybe it was 10, or 12. Either way, it wasn’t very comforting for a team that was investing so much in him.

For Merica, this season has been all about improving himself and playing like everyone who knows him knows that he can. He flashed his greatness in the SMJHL when he poured in 60 points, and that’s the player that Seattle is expecting in the SHL and it appears that he is finally starting to get his feet on the correct tracks. Not only is his personal performance rising, but he has had a strong impact on his teammates and especially his linemates, Chris McZehrl and Daniel Passarella, who are having superb seasons. McZehrl is second in the SHL with 42 points and Passy is second on the Riot with 28.

Now, I know you all came here to hear Merica babble like only he knows how, and I am here to tell you that I had the privilege of sitting down and conducting an interview with him. He’s well known for his audacity, opinions and arrogancy and let me tell you, he took it to new a level today. Enjoy.

Tess Morley, Brian's sister and Merica's girlfriend.

Benji Job:
Thanks for joining us Daniel, it’s an honor.
Daniel Merica:
No problem, but I’ll let you know now that I have a hot date with Morley’s sister in about an hour, so time is limited.

BJ:
Got it, how am I not surprised. Alright, moving this along, you’ve had a pretty good season with 20 points, in fact the whole top line has been very productive. McZehrl is having an amazing season. What has been the keys to success for you and the top line?
Merica:
Well Benji, I put in a shit-ton of work this season- actually look here, I’m pretty shredded these days *points to abs as he lifts up shirt*- so it’s not surprise to me that my level of play has gone up. Last season was an aberration, it’ll never happen again. As far as my line, man all I got to say is there is a direct correlation between McZ’s perverted ass playing with me and his success. If you ask him, he will take the credit, but everyone knows it’s me that has pushed him this season. Without me on the ice making shit happen, he wouldn’t be so damn open all the time.

BJ:
You do know that McZ has consistently made players around him better throughout his career, right? Which would lead most to believe that it’s him who has made you better, not the other way around.
Merica:
Believe me, he reminds me of that every day, and I always tell him he is in denial, just like I tell Morley he is denial because he thinks he will ever win with LA. Just because Panzerface has a good history doesn’t automatically mean that’s the reason for my success. I tell you, without me on his line, constantly pushing him and keeping him focused, because ever since he joined Seattle he has become, how shall I say, very sexually warped, and it’s been hard for him to stay focused.

BJ:
Sexually warped? Do explain.
Merica:
It’s all he talks about. Sex. Sex. Sex. I love it, don’t get me wrong, sex I mean, but I am not out of control. He has gone and been tested five times this season for STD’s because he was afraid that the chick, or what he hoped was a chick, didn’t give him something. He will skating during a game and suddenly his eyes will wander off and latch onto a hot blonde, he did last night, and then skated right into me and fell down. He is a sex addict, and he knows it.

BJ:
Wow, well learn something new every day. Pressing forward, as I know Morley’s sister just cant wait to go out with you…I understand that you are mentoring Thomas King this season, who is currently in the SMJHL. How is that working out?
Merica:
Quite well, actually. He can hang with me pretty well on the weekends now, he doesn’t pass out after two shots of whiskey anymore. So I would say he is making progress. Oh you meant hockey wise. Thomas is a superb player, I would love to play with him in the future, class act. He has a lot of work to do, don’t get me wrong, but I have him a strict regimen and it’s really paying off.

BJ:
I heard through the little birdies that there was a little bit of controversy over the team’s choice for Captain this season, care to elaborate?
Merica:
I should be Captain. This is my team, I am here for the long-haul. I love McZ to death, but this team isn’t the same as the one’s he’s lead in the past. The atmosphere is different, the locker room is different, it’s a new era. The fans love me, this is my city and I am invested in both. I may not lead like the media thinks I should, but you can ask anyone I have ever played with, I lead from the front and I know how to get guys motivated, I will go to bat for them every time. McZ is great, as I said, and he wears that “C”, so I respect that, but I won’t agree with it. Everyone in Seattle already knows this though, so it’s old news.

BJ:
I’ve also heard that you are starting up an anti-bullying project, am I correct?
Merica:
Not exactly. I’ve seen a lot of articles and news pieces in the media lately about anti-bullying awareness, programs, etc and it’s frustrating to me that they are missing the biggest issue behind it all. Bullying will always be a problem, it just won’t go away, so in order to defeat it, kids need to be raised right and taught to fight back. I was always told by my dad that “I don’t ever want to hear that you started a fight…I want to hear that you finished it.” Coddling your children and teaching them peace, love and happiness doesn’t prepare them for the real world. My dad told me a story about how when he was 10, he kept getting bullied, so one day he had enough and turned around and smacked the kid in the face with his metal lunch box. The kid became his friend afterwards and he was never bullied again.

Would you let your 9 yr old son where this to school?

I read a story the other day about a 9 yr old boy who has been constantly bullied because he showed up to school with a pink “My Little Pony” backpack. How, as a parent, do you allow your son to go to school wearing such an item? Him being bullied is YOUR fault, because if you stepped up and realized that hey, maybe a boy wearing a pink pony backpack isn’t a good idea, you could have stopped it before it started, yeah its wrong that they bullied him, but stop it before it starts. We have all been to school, we know how it goes, so why the fuck would you set your child up to be bullied like that? Obviously not every case is the same, sometimes the bullies just decide they don’t like how he looks, or how he talks, so they bully him. Want it to stop? Fight back. I know this is a touchy subject, and know I am 100% against bullying, I just think people are going about preventing it all wrong.

BJ:
You’re right, people are going to have a hay-day with that, but somehow I don’t think you care. Last question, Ammon Tutankamen has 6 more points than you, are you going to catch him?
Merica:
Does a bear shit in the woods?

Completely accurate. "one" isn't referring to one total opinion. You know exactly what I meant.
