S18 Post Game Show - Day 17
#1

<div align="center">Vancouver Whalers vs. Montreal Impact
Game Number -> 32
Score -> Whalers win 6-2

First Star -> Thomas King (VAN -- 1G, 1A, +3)
Second Star -> Jay Robinson (VAN -- 2G, +1)
Third Star -> Sebastien Ryder (VAN -- 2A, +2)
</div>

The Vancouver Whalers have gotten off to a tremendous start in the SMJHL this season, and it would only continue against one of the coldest teams in the league. With the Montreal Impact losing four of their last five, the Whalers capitalized on a great opportunity to beat up on the lowly Impact.

The Impact would get off to a solid start out-shooting the Whalers by a generous margin and getting a key opening goal from Oliver Pettyfer. However, Mike Schmidt would buckle down for the Whalers and their offense would take over in the second. Vyskoc, Kinsler, King and Robinson would all score for Vancouver in the first eleven minutes of the second period. This onslaught also saw the Whalers dominate the shots column with an eleven shot differential. While Jamal Starr would get one back in the last few minutes of the period, the momentum had clearly shifted to the Whalers side as they were able to impose their will on the Impact. Patrick Toews would score in the opening seconds of the third period and Jay Robinson would add his second of the game to give the Whalers a dominant six-to-two victory.

Dymo Ranjan had an awful night in-between the pipes as he allowed four goals on eighteen shots and was eventually removed for the always charismatic Jam Scruffy. Mike Schmidt did his job and kept his team in the game during the first period, as he would go on to stop twenty of twenty-two shots in the affair. The Whalers keep on winning and look to be one of the league's best teams, while the Impact continue to struggle and will need to figure out what needs to be fixed before they can start to ascent towards the top of the division.

Detroit Falcons vs. St. Louis Scarecrows
Game Number -> 33
Score -> Scarecrows win 5-3

First Star -> Jonathan Kane (STL -- 2G, 1A, 2H)
Second Star -> Alens Paurs (STL -- 1G, 1A, 3SB)
Third Star -> Janis Vitols (DET -- 1G, 1A, 2SB)
</div>

This matchup brought an interesting dynamic to the forefront. The Falcons have been one of the SMJHL's best teams this season with an incredible 9-1-0 record. They had won five in a row and were just an absolute terror for any other team to come across. However, the Scarecrows, after struggling at the beginning of the season, had won four of their last five games and were really starting to click offensively. After scoring twenty-two goals in their last five games, the Scarecrows would continue the trend and light up the very highly regarded Martins Petersons.

After the Falcons would get off to a great start with goals by Janis Vitols and Johan Swanstrom, it appeared like the Scarecrows were once again finding themselves behind a better team. However, a double-minor penalty for high-sticking by Chris MacMilan would change all the momentum. Alens Paurs would score his third of the year with the man advantage and the Scarecrows would add another to the second to tie it up. The third would see Detroit score early but St. Louis turn it on led by Jonathan Kane. The diminutive forward recorded two goals in the third while Joshua Botelho would add another as the St. Louis Scarecrows would knock off the Falcons by a score of five to three.

Neither goaltender had a very strong showing but Jackson Weekes would get the job done at the end of the day. He stopped twenty-one of twenty-four shots in the victory while Petersons allowed four goals on twenty-nine shots. With the Scarecrows beating such a hot team, perhaps they are one to watch in the Eastern Division. If they can start to rally, look out for this exciting team going forward.

Kelowna Knights vs. Regina Force
Game Number -> 34
Score -> Force win 5-2

First Star -> Bronsen Zerchai (RGF -- 1G, 2A, 5H)
Second Star -> McLovin (RGF -- 1G, 1A, 4S)
Third Star -> Turd Ferguson Jr. (RGF -- 2A, 2SB)
</div>

Two of the league's worst teams met up in the thirty-fourth game of the SMJHL season. The Knights came into the game with a mediocre 3-8-0 record, while the Force had a similarly troubling 3-5-3 record. With both teams struggling you might have expected a close encounter. If that is what you were expecting, you were dead wrong.

The Force dominated from the start with huge goals by McLovin and Hermione Granger. While the Knights would battle back, Bronsen Zerchai buried his ninth of the year to give the Force a commanding four to one lead. Tyler Guest and Patrick Zaryk would each score one for their respective teams, with the Force winning by a convincing score of 5-2.

The most troubling aspect of the Knights game was between the pipes. Mathias Lundgren continued his poor play this season allowing four goals on ten shots. He really never gave the Knights an opportunity to win and when you fall behind right away, it can be tough to claw back into it. On the other side of the ice, Kevin Griffin was solid enough allowing just two goals on nineteen shots, as the Force's defense did an excellent job shutting down Kelowna's offense. It will be interesting to see if this huge win can give the Force some momentum as they look to climb their way back to the top of the Western Division.
