Season 21 Detroit Falcons Awards and Player Bonuses!

Detroit had an exceptional season in S21. They finished 1st place in their division, won the eastern conference championship and appeared in the Four Star Cup Finals for the 1st time since S15. As GM’s, Mook and I could not be more proud of this group. With just 2 active send downs, our incredible group of 8 rookies really stepped up and worked hard to help this team find success. Everyone contributed to a great locker room with over 160 pages (not including boob gifs) and we all genuinely had a lot of fun this year. Our team chemistry is amazing and it’s not surprising everyone wants to return to try and win a cup together in S22. This is really a special group and Mook and I are extremely thankful to everyone for their hard work and commitment to the Detroit Falcons organization.

At this time we would like to announce our Detroit Falcons Awards and Bonuses for the S21 season. Having 8mil left in our budget, we always like to give back to the players who need it most. So without further adieu, it’s time for the S21 Falcons Awards!

Sergey Kovalenko AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most valuable to the team offensively.

Winner: Chico Four Byrde – Our team Captain and resident superstar, Chico Four Byrde led our team in so many ways this season it’s impossible to list them all. His hard work and point production on the ice was evident through his 42 points, including 21 on the powerplay and as a center he was the offensive catalyst for wingers Clay Parker (50pts) and Nil Wahlstrom (29pts). Chico played all the hard minutes and was our top center in all situations. He also stepped up his game in the playoffs as most captains do and put up 19 points in 10 games. Points aside, he brings so much to the Falcons organization and is truly our MVP. His commitment to winning a championship in Detroit is unwavering as evident by his declaration to return to Detroit for a 3rd season. Chico had an awesome season and we can only expect even bigger things next season. Thanks Chico!

Chico Four Byrde Bonus: $1,000,000

Kevin Lebacon AwardAwarded to the player judged to have exhibited the best type of leadership and sportsmanship.

Winner: Bubba Nuck – Bubba Nuck’s value to Detroit goes beyond words. After being drafted he embraced the Detroit organization with open arms and was truly a great representative of the players we look for in Detroit. He may not have worn a letter this season but was without question a team leader and one of our most active players. He gave tremendous support to his fellow rookies and also set the bar through his incredible work ethic. He became a leader without even knowing it and I attribute that to his natural leadership ability. He was always active in the game threads, he was there to root for the team in all situations, he brought humor to the locker room and helped create a fun enjoyable environment for everyone to succeed. Nuck is a true Falcon and embodies what we look for in a player. We could not have been happier with him this season and he could have won numerous awards. His commitment to Detroit, his maturity, unselfishness and incredible work ethic are the intangables that will make him a future SHL superstar. We’re thrilled to be getting Bubba back for a 2nd season and thank him for all he has done for the Falcons organization.

Bubba Nuck Bonus: $250,000

Reggie Williams AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most valuable to the team during the SMJHL Playoffs.

Winner: Nils Wahlstrom – Nils had a great year for Detroit as was awesome as one of our Alternate Captains. He put up 14 goals and 29 points in the regular season, often times giving way to Four-Byrde and Parker, but as captains often do he stepped up his game in the post-season. Nils Wahlstrom dominated the score sheet putting up 11 goals and 17 points in 10 games. He scored the most goals of any player in the S21 playoffs. That’s quite an impressive stat. His timely goal scoring and dominating play was a huge reason why the Falcons were able to beat the Crows in 5 games. Wahlstrom had a great year and a dynamite playoffs, but the best is yet to come from this sniper as he’ll be returning for a 2nd season and is expected to lead the league in goals. His scoring ability is well documented but he also brought so much more to the Falcons this season. One of hardest working rookies and most active and committed players, he embodies what we look for in an Alternate Captain. Hard work, respect, skill and a great attitude are what make Nils so valuable. Another future superstar.

Nils Wahlstrom Bonus: $750,000

Gabriel Johansen AwardAwarded to the defenseman who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position.

Winner: Michael J Caboose - The human freight train, Caboose was a huge part of our success this season. He was our #1 defenseman and led all blue liners in time of ice. Playing a complete shutdown role for the majority of the season, we would not have had nearly as much success without his strong defensive play. He was without question the MVP of our defense. Logging the biggest minutes and playing in all situations, Caboose was always there to be relied upon. Whether it was a big hit (46) or a key block (31) or setting an example for other players, Caboose was the go to guy. As one of our send downs and Alternate Captains, Caboose was a great leader and helped our rookies get comfortable in Detroit. Providing a reliable presence in the locker room or a veteran presence on the ice, Caboose’s contributions to Detroit as a both a player and person are tremendously appreciated. He is also very committed to the team and wants to win a cup with this group. He’s chosen to return for a 3rd season and management could not be happier. He was already a Detroit legend, but now as a 350tpe send down he should make his mark on the score sheet as well. Expect an MVP candidate season from Caboose in S22 before he moves on to dominate the SHL.

Michael J Caboose Bonus: $750,000

Lucas Smith Award Awarded to the player judged to be the most un-selfish over the course of the season.

Winner: Alex Mack – Locker room favorite Alex Mack definitely made his mark on Detroit this season after signing as a free agent just days after the draft. Mack came in and went right to work. He accepted his role as a depth player on the ice, but quickly became a leader and one of the teams most popular players off the ice. Mack’s incredibly humorous writing style opened doors and brought down walls (as he said in one of his pieces) and created a fun atmosphere in the Detroit locker room. He brought everyone out of their shell and made it easier for players to find fun ideas point tasks and media. He’s kind of a pioneer, showing no fear in his writing style or topic of conversation. He brought the team many laughs and did this all while playing around 12 minutes a game. Mack never complained and kept working just as hard as anyone on the team. His commitment to Detroit is well documented as he’s proclaimed his intention to stay down 2 seasons. Again showing his unselfishness wanting to win a cup for his first franchise before moving on to the SHL. Mack is a locker room favorite and should become a superstar on the ice this season in an expanded role. Thanks for being an awesome teammate Mack and for sharing your sister in law. Truly an un-selfish act.

Alex Mack Bonus: $500,000

Brent Wood AwardAwarded to the player judged to be most underrated throughout the season.

Winner: Zach Morgan – Perhaps the most underrated player in the entire SMJHL last season, Morgan proved his worth by going 20th overall to the Manhattan in the draft, which many scouts deemed as the steal of the draft. Last season for Detroit Morgan flew relatively under the radar but was one of Detroit’s most active and hard working players. His was great in the locker room and quickly showed he had what it took to not only be the next great Detroit player, but a future star in the SHL. He had a solid season playing on our 3rd line averaging just over 14 minutes a game and put up 15 points, 62 hits and 57 shots. He was a physical force for us and one of our most clutch players, leading the team with 4 game winning goals. Morgan was also our resident stats expert, providing great analysis on not only his play, but our teams performance. He is a huge part of this team and really special player. We expect Zach Morgan to become a household name this season in a greatly expanded role for the Falcons.

Zach Morgan Bonus: $1,000,000

Jamie Rose AwardAwarded to the forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game.

Winner: Thomas Anderson – The physically gifted Anderson had a great rookie season. He put up 28 points and led all forwards in hits with 69 and was 2nd in blocks with 7. He had a great rookie season offensively, but also helped the team with his strong defensive play and checking. Logging nearly 100 minutes on the penalty kill, he was a player management leaned on heavily in any defensive situation. His ability to knock opposing players off the puck was second to none and he was another player who worked hard for Detroit this season and was a key element to their success. Anderson will return for a 2nd season where he’s expected to put the hurt on more than a few players. Expect a breakout season in S22.

Thomas Anderson Bonus: $1,000,000

Esa Anrikkanen AwardAwarded to the rookie who displayed the hardest work ethic and earned the most tpe over the course of the season.

Winner: Bubba Nuck – We don’t often give a player 2 awards, but in this case Bubba Nuck deserves it. He earned the most tpe of any rookie Falcon this season with 274 at the end of the playoffs, narrowly edging out his teammate Nils Wahlstrom. Both players deserve recognition for their incredible hard work this season, but Nuck really took it to another level. He was active everywhere on the site and earned as much tpe as possible. Nuck's work ethic was one of the reasons Detroit invested a high pick in him and they were beyond pleased with his effort this season. Great job!

Bubba Nuck Bonus: $250,000

Martins Daugavins AwardAwarded to the Defenseman who played the toughest minutes throughout the season.

Winner: Big Manius – Standing 6’9” and weighing 265 pounds, Big Manius lived up to his name this season for Detroit. He played incredibly tough minutes for us and was a beast everytime he stepped on the ice. He finished with 70 hits and a team leading 53 blocks. Not bad from a 7th round pick! Manius was easily the steal of last year’s SMJHL draft and hugely outplayed his draft position. Besides his incredibly tough defensive play, he was also great offensively with 26 points, including 11 on the powerplay and he fired 65 shots on net. Manius can do a bit of everything and does it all very well. He should be one of the toughest defenseman to play against this coming season in the SMJHL. He’s not the most vocal player you’ll find, but he puts his hard hat on and comes to work every day and is always looking to improve. Detroit is lucky to have him.

Big Manius Bonus: $1,000,000

Roberts Birkavs AwardAwarded to the player who has the most untapped potential at the end of the season.

Winner: Tucker O’Callahan – The offensive defenseman O’Callahan was one of our top players in pre-season as he had the most points on the team with 14 in 14 games. He worked hard for us and got up to over 200tpe before real life duties took him away from the site just before playoffs. He still ended up having a big year with 29 points, 12 on the powerplay and 74 shots along with 33 blocks. He quarterbacked our powerplay along with Clay Parker and at times the unit was deadly. O’Callahan is on a bit of a hiatus right now but we expect him to come back with a vengeance before too long and that is why he is our pick for most untapped potential. He has a great build, is a great member and if he puts his mind to it can become an awesome player. O’Callahan has a ton of untapped potential. We hope he capitalized on this during S22.

Tucker O’Callahan Bonus: $1,000,000

Jakub Aittokallio Award – Awarded to the player who GM's deem to be the most versatile throughout the season.

Winner: Alex Fischer – Offensively gifted and defensively responsible, Alex Fischer was capable of playing anywhere in the line up last season for Detroit. Powerplay, Penalty Kill, 4 on 4, maybe even goalie, you name it, he could do it. He had a great year with 29 points and 100 shots. He also had 12 powerplay points and even scored a hat trick in the playoffs. He was one of our most active players early in the season, reaching 213tpe and his build allowed management to utilize him on any line and he showed great chemistry with whoever we put him with. Fischer will continue to be a versatile player for Detroit this season and in the future as management awaits his return.

Alex Fischer Bonus : $500,000

Tom Corcoran Award – Awarded to the goaltender judged to be the best at this position.

Winner: Rob Pressen – Second year goalie Rob Pressen had another strong season, this time backstopping Detroit to a division title and eastern conference championship. Pressen played great in the regular season with 18 wins and a 3.19 GAA. His wins were tied for most among goalies. He was strong in the playoffs especially in the 1st round and was a key part of Detroit success this season. We hope to see Pressen back to activity at some point in the future.

Thanks to all the Falcons players for making this an awesome season. You all played great and are on your way to becoming future SHL stars. Enjoy your bonuses, I hope they help each of you in some way. Smile

What have you learned about optimism and expectations? You know I don't express joy with you in public, or in private usually.

 You're right, I should have known better.

New Jakub Aittokallio Award for S22: Given to the player who is least capable of expressing joy over the course of the season.
