Mac Cup Drought Ending Presser
#1

Still find it a bit surreal, I woke up this morning and thought I had dreamt last night. Doesn't seem real after this long of a wait to have finally hoisted the damn thing.

Anywho, I had done a presser yesterday morning and dozed off watching TV, I'll answer those questions in here before the rest, but for now, ask away.

Quote:Originally posted by Count Chocula@Jun 2 2015, 09:21 AM<br />Are you worried the wolfpack are going to pull a ducks now that you're up 3-2?

I am going to answer this as if I did before the Cup winning game.

Yes, oh my sweet lord, yes. I have been to two Cup Finals prior to this one, in my rookie season with my first player, where we got swept by the then powerhouse West Kendall Platoon.

I have always had my doubts about the legitimacy of that, due to the simmer being the GM of West Kendall at a time where if I recall correctly, the simmers team won 5 of the first 6 Cups, this is why this league will go as Jack does. I trust him to be fair and he has done nothing to ever break that trust.

Which is why the next loss was a bit harder, Season 18, Minnesota (went to Minny after leaving Seattle via less then good terms) vs Seattle (A team I formerly GMd and had been my only team prior) and a Game 7 loss. Closest I ever got til last night, was playing one game for the Cup.

Last night, I can tell you that I was immensely relieved. Our goaltender is/was the biggest playoff choke job this side of Luongo. To the extent that I didn't watch the last ten minutes of the PBP for fear of Tennyson letting in three goals and it going to seven.
I had the PBP for that and I was dreading doing a PBP if we had lost, as I would do it properly and not give anything away one way or the other.

Interview Out of the entire playoffs, what was the greatest victory? What was the 2nd best?

I think it goes without saying the Cup winning game was the greatest victory, but the second by a hair would be Game 7 against the Rage, after predicting a sweep and seeing us go up three games to none, you can only imagine the shit-eating grin on my face.

You could also probably imagine the shit eating grin on Mericas face after winning the next three to force Game 7.

Esa (Steelhead77) messaged me asking for a quote and at the point, I had nothing left to lose if we did get reverse swept, so I quoted Messier, I mean afterall it'd only be beating a dead horse (pun intended)

Interview which team did you want to beat the most? Obviously win the cup, but was there one team you didn't want to for sure lose to?

I think I may have just answered that above.

Interview What's your future look like with NEW?

If it ends as this season did, excellent. I know that's not the question, but my future at this point is literally in the hands of our GMs. They inquired about my pending free agency at the end of Season 24 and would like for that to not take place through an extension.
I have submitted what I believe to be a very fair offer, I am now awaiting their decision.

Interview  With Tennyson retiring... what do you believe NEW will look like and how will they perform

They will finally look like a contender;  play loads better.

You don't have to tell me.

Man, if you think that I am not sure what to tell you. I had figured you must be climbing up on eighteen yourself if you are saying things like that but after looking and seeing that you were a rookie in Season 16, I don't know exactly what to make of this. Do you have no faith in your GM's to bring glory within eleven seasons or do you believe you somehow are more unlucky then myself (and Krever and Myers)

<!--QuoteBegin-Trill@Jun 3 2015, 06:56 PM

1) Do you know what active member has the longest drought now?

[b]Yes or at least the top three. I believe that Krever is tops at all 23, as he has never won a Cup in his career, next I think is you or Myers. I think Myers is on eightteen now which means are slightly...ahead? If so, I feel for you buddy.

2) How does it feel to win?

I dunno, it's weird. I can say with near certainty I have not been that drunk on a Tuesday night with work the next day but I released The Kraken and had good reason to celebrate. The team was on Skype together until 2am this morning, what a blast to finally experience it. Though I have this whole "Ok...So, now what?" feeling going on.
As you see in trade thread, Weber and Schenn are on the move, that is going to bring in a boatload of picks, so that question kinda got answered for me.

3) Will you ever leave NEW?

Currently, Storm and Prettyburn are discussing my contract. I was contacted today in regards to an extension after we agreed to wait til what the landscape looks like after the Playoffs. If they are agreeable to the contract I am seeking it is unlikely I will leave.

This is due to this team becoming near family to me. Last summer, I retired Mac, that stung as he had not gotten his Cup. I do not regret it as I was drafted to Regina along with Niklas Wikstrom, Nathan Russell and Elyk. They were all standup people and that junior year was something truly special.

Instead of Regina seeking glory, Chisling requested we stay up and that we did, providing a quickly improving new core to an aging group of veterans. Unfortunately, we had to ship out Elyk who looks to be the second time I have traded a future HOFer to another team.

Since the draft, I have spent nearly a full year if not more with these people. They were there to talk to and help me get through some dark periods in my life over the last year, breaking my ankle in August and slowly losing sanity (experienced every single symptom of cabin fever from being inside for two months) to losing two family members, one to suicide and another to a brain aneursym, they were there to talk to through it all and they were there when I got to raise the Cup for the first time.

There are many members I like on this site, but the majority right now are in New England, so why would I want to leave.

4) Thoughts on how you guys will do next season?

Losing McZerhl, Kovalenko and Samsinov definitely stung, losing Weber and Schenn feels like I got kicked in the stomach. It knocked us down the contention list, likely to the near bottom for the next season or two but depending on trades, free agency and the draft, that remains to be seen. I think we can pull off a retool instead of the full on rebuild some may expect. With the abnormally deep Season 25 draft coming up, I expect us to replenish the cupboards the way the Season 20 draft did.
