Sunday June 7th 1:59 AM:

Girard stands at the counter of a booming night club, spending his last $10 on a shot of Ketel One just in time for last call. He sucks it back, takes a deep breath and turns around to a tap on his shoulder.

“Brumm! Hey buddy, who are the lovely ladies?” he replied.

“Here, this is Candi, with an “i” I got her for you.” Brumm answered as he shoves a half alive college girl towards G.

“Well, I do love my sweets.” Girard laughed as the duo high fived.



Monday June 8th 2:32 PM (Draft day):

The pair awake in a high end Vegas hotel room to Brumm’s phone ringing off the hook.

“Ugh, Hello?” Brumm asks raspily and barely awake.

“Where you guys sitting?” the voice on the other end asks.

“Randy is that you? I don’t know, I’m sitting on a hooker currently and Girard looks to be sleeping beside a goat.”

“WHAT! YOU GUYS AREN”T AT THE DRAFT?” Randy Randleman exclaims.

*click* Brumm ends the call.

“Girard wake up, we gotta go!”



This kind of fashionably late escapade wasn’t anything new to childhood friends, Brumm and Girard. Often their idea of fun landed them in some pretty tough situations especially running with the “Wolfpack” boys. Despite their pitiful need for drugs, alcohol and girls these two never missed an important date and the S24 SHL draft was the most important yet. The pair strapped into Brumm’s newly acuired Ferrari 458, that which he paid off immediatley signing with the Regina Force and set out on the road in hopes of making it to Winnipeg in time for their names to be called.

“We need to get there fast Brumm!” Girard says worryingly.

“Bro, this car has 562 horses. That combined with this baggy of coke and this Proclaimers CD, we’ll be there in no time!” Brumm says as he pops the disk in and throws the car into first.


15 minutes and a few lines of cocaine later…

“Where do you think you’ll go? Do you think we’ll play on the same team? Do you think you’ll go top 10? Randy sucks eh, he’ll probably go third round.” Girard says overly loudly and all in one breath while shaking and scratching his arm.

Brumm turns the music louder to drown Girard’s annoying nonsense out…

“AND I WILL WALK 500 MILES…”

2 hours and an unofficial “police escort” later, the boys burst into the convention center in the middle of Mitchell Dambach’s name being called.

“WE MADE IT!” yells Brumm and Girard together. Tanner can be seen burying his face into the palm of his hands as he makes his way to the stage.

“And with the 5th and 6th overall picks of the S24 SHL Draft, the Hamilton Steelhawks organization are now somehwhat disapointed to select… Brandon Girard and Patrick Brumm.” GM Jakob Tanner announces shortly.

“FUCK YEAUH” Brumm yells as he and Girard sprint to the stage.

Girard puts his jersey on backwards and smiles big for the pictures.

In all seriousness, Hamilton’s new defensive prospects, Brandon Girard and Patrick Brumm are very excited to be chosen by the Steelhawks. Not only because HAM is a serious and competitive team, but becasue these two inseperable friends are given the chance to work together and play together. A privelege that only comes around once in a lifetime and would formally like to thank Tanner and crew for the opportunity.

When the two are ready to be called up to the bigs, look for the Steelhawk’s defensive core to not only improve but the team’s scoring to be putting up huge points as a whole. Both players are offensive minded, with Brumm being the scorer and Girard being the playmaker. This looks to be a perfect match and will hopefully one day dominate the league.

You may refer to this defensive pairing as the “Steel Curtain”, why exactly? I’m not sure, but it sounds cool and came out of Brumm’s mouth when he was probably drunk.

Here’s to Hamilton and a successful career to come.
