Hello everyone, welcome to the TSN Round 1 Recap of the SMJHL. And it seems the hockey world was not expecting what had happened in the playoffs, the struggling Whalers who had come into the playoffs quite pitifully as they had lost their last few games while Prince George had not been much better. Much critics had said that the Whalers would lose as they would not have the same veterans like Barbashev and Zaitsev to take the team back to the finals. Most had assumed that the Prince George Firebirds would win in 6 with previous 1st round veterans Kyle Prince, Patrick Brumm, and Mikko Antonio Scurderi leading the team to the 2nd round. Not to add new rookies Cynthia Taylor, Travis Kudylchuck and DJ Stanley all made to play in the playoffs.
However the Whalers also had a big crowd of people going for them with most expecting a game 7 win. However the Whalers surprised everyone when they won in 6 games with their 1st and 2nd line combining for 39 points in 6 games. With notable player Patrikov Bure nicknamed by players like Mitchell Dambach, "the Russian Defector" who has 10 points and 8 assists. However their 3rd and 4th line are all minus so either the 2nd and 1st better keep it up or their 3rd and 4th better improve quick. The Whalers now face the Kelowna Knights in the 2nd round for several seasons in a row, last year the Whalers were able to smoke the Knights in a game 7. Both teams have lost key players but Kelowna has gotten even stronger since and the Knights are looking to make it to the finals and are expecting the Falcons so they can win the 4 star cup Now we go to the Scarecrows. Everyone was wrong, no one expected Montreal to win, and when they did, no one expected they'd win in 4 games in a sweep! Back to the SMJHL S24 Draft, Jesster was drafted 2nd overall and Wind 1st, it seemed Montreal had the better choice, as Jesster had a good playoff run so far. Besides that it seemed the Impact were too tough to beat as they hit the body quite a bit and the Scarecrows are now dusting off their golf clubs with bruised bones Now they face the Falcons in the 2nd round and while the argument that the Impact have won the reguler season fight against Detroit but then again, the Scarecrows were 8-4 vs Montreal in the season while they were 0-4 in the Playoffs, so previous records have no impact on this battle, the Falcons have lost top goalie Alex Demko from last year who no matter how much you argue was on a different level then Austin Lemieux and Lee Bowden combined. So the Falcons are gonna have to score more then the Impact to win. Thank you for coming to watch the TSN Round 1 Recap of the S25 SMJHL Playoff, which we nickname this playoff 1st round: The Underdogs
